Unité de Biotechnologie Ins1tut Meurice
Alain Durieux Head of the department
General presenta1on of UBT
• Created in 1983, the Unit of Biotechnology (UBT) of Meurice InsBtute (Haute Ecole Lucia de Brouckère), has devoted its acBvity to several industrial programs in applied microbiology and bioprocess development.
• AcBviBes : – Academic – Applied Research / Services providing – Self–financing researches (TFE, thesis…) publicaBon, parBcipaBon to congress, acquisiBon of new competences

Today its experBse is in the following sectors :
– ProducBon of micro‐organisms : dried or liquid formulaBons (probioBcs, starters for food industry or environmental technology, biofungicides ).
– Scaling –up and validaBon of process for fermentaBon and protein purificaBon of industrial interest
– Development of bioprocess for environmental technology (biofiltraBon, bioremediaBon, denitrificaBon…)
– Drying processes
Collabora1ons with industrial and academic partners
• CollaboraBons established by « l’asbl Meurice R&D » (non‐profit associaBon).
• White Biotechnology / Red Biotechnology • Type of collaboraBons :
– R&D convenBons (Meurice R&D/ industrial partner) DuraBon = punctual collaboraBons (services providing)
– Programs supported by public authoriBes (BXL Region, Walloon Region (DGO6), UE, IWT) with industrial support (sponsoring) + other academic partners DuraBon = 2 to 4 years
– ConfidenBality agreement
