Task 2: Create the Design

I have been requested by a friend to help design and build a network and also help with a computer solution for the shop which is called First Music. First Music will sell new and used music and allow customers to get online in the store and download music. We First Music are also planning to offer classes to people on how to download music and configure MP3 devices.

The purpose of First Music requirements:

1. First Music needs a three high- spec computers for the business. One computer will be for sales and stock control which checks how much money its income it’s getting and the stock control will be the stock of how many music CD the store will need. The second computer will be for the MP3 players, it’s important for the customers to be able to download music and the last computer will be placed up in the manager’s office.

2. They will need at least five shared folders and seven shared files, with different access permissions for different users, so that they will be able to share their work, another for the music and have an option to name their own folder and keep it private.

3. First Music needs a new operating system such as Microsoft windows 7 to able to work smoothly without any problem and it’s also important to have application software such as anti-virus software, firewall and etc. This will prevent the PC to become slower.

4. First Music would need at least one shared hardware network such as a printer so that they can print the paper work and the receipt. A scanner is also important

once you do a hand written work you can put it on the scanner so that it buts it straight on the computer screen. The main purpose of First Music having an external storage device is so they can back up there worked.

5. The store will have at least three network users which are Peter, Daniel and John. Daniel will be the network administrator with full control over the computer network.

6. The network will have to be configured for the users, e.g. to be able to add more users, remove existing users, change passwords(s), change access rights, set login restrictions, disable user accounts.

7. The setup of network utilities is also required, it’s good for a business to have a remote desktop so that the user to can connect to each other in a different location. First Music would need to send messages instant and also it’s to have an antivirus, and firewall.

8. All network users which work in First Music will get their very own username and password to access on the computer network.

The roles of Hardware and software

Printer: The role of the printers is to print paper. The printer is connected to the PC and they community through the wires.

Scanner: To scan the work and send It to the computer. The scanner is connected through a wire

Keyboard and mouse: The job of the mouse and keyboard is control the PC. The keyboard and mouse are connected with a USB Cable

External storage device: Store data and its connected with USB cable Application software : Get tools on the PC Firewall and anti-virus software: Keep the PC secure form viruses and hackers.

The firewall and anti-virus software’s are connected with the operating system which allows the software’s perform heir jobs.

Task 3:

I created three users for the First Music shop. This explains their description of what their job is and also I given them their own personal password to use to login in.

This is the part which I

chose the folder for the 3 users to share.

I shared the printer with the 3 users Daniel, John and Peter so that all of them

can access the same printer.

This is the music folder which contains the files of all the different types of music.

This is the stock control and sales folder this contain the stock of which the business has and the income of how many sales First Music is receiving.

I let Daniel Dickson the administrator in full control of the stocks and sales of the business folder.

I give John the permission in using the sales and stock control because it’s part of his day to day job.

I didn’t give Peter permission due to the fact that his job has nothing to do with the stock control and the sales of the business. His job is to download music and give lesson to the customers in how to use a MP3 Player.

First I used an Ethernet cable to ping to another computer by using cmd which stands for command and it connects with the other computer that has same Ethernet cable which I am using to ping through their IP address to allow me to ping them.

This is Daniel the administrator’s computer so I locked his folder so that no one can access his personal work

This is an example by John trying to go on Daniels PC but it denied him because it’s locked.

Task 4: Review of the final computer:

The network is suitable for the intended requirements which First Music required. The main purpose of having a network is that First Music can download their music which the customers planned to purchase. It’s important for First Music to have a fast network so that they will be able to download their music very fast which means the business will work quicker and smoothly. I chose to have a Local Area Network (LAN) instead of a Wide Area Network (WAN) due to face that it’s cheaper; also they only need it in a short area such as the First Music building. The LAN is also good because it can download large amount of data faster than a WAN. Which means a LAN is a better option than a WAN. I will also download Firewall software so that the network of the Music shop can be secure form viruses. The manager has also asked me to set up a centralised printing and an external storage device as requested. First Music also needs to have a set of application software tools to successfully download music and search for the music. The administrator folder is block form the other user because is it’s the manager personal work. The administrator is now able to be control of every user which works in First Music. I also set up a remote

desktop form them application software. All users will be given a password but once they login they will have an option to change it.
