musicians who wanted to record music together at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 for nothing more than the love of music and the intrigue o

deviating from their normal projects.

When Amos Lee rolled into Red Rocks in August 2014 he had been on tour for almost a year in support of his fifth studio

It’s doubtful

that

any

postwar

blues

guitarist’s

musical

development

was

as

graceful

as

Lowell

Fulson’s, and

very

few

electric blues guitarists made as indelible of a mark on the postwar scene. His earliest sides were raw‐edged blues

with a rural tinge, some of them duets with his younger brother Martin. Fulson urbanized his sound and got red hot at the

dawn of the ’50s, dabbled in rock and roll midway through the decade, and went downright funky during the mid‐’60s, scoring one of h

biggest sellers in the process. All the while, Fulson stayed true to his roots, his stinging lead guitar attack and burnished vocals always

unmistakably his own. He was a prolific songwriter as well. Fulson’s stay at Stan Lewis’ Shreveport, La.‐based Jewel Records, extending

from 1969 through the early ’70s, typically produced a motherlode of solid, soulful ‐ electric blues and even found him experimenting

with blues‐rock (who would have ever thought he’d cover the Beatles?).

detailed and dense in terms of character development, peaks and valleys,

climaxes and resolutions we've divided the story and music in two, in the form

on the back story and character development, while part two/album two,

Sister Rosetta Tharpe wasn’t just ahead of her time. With her rip‐roaring gospel testifying, a slashing, aggressive lead guitar technique

that proved influential to up‐and‐coming axemen on both sides of the stylistic fence, an audacious, bigger than‐ life stage persona, and

willingness to buck church tradition as far as briefly crossing over to singing secular material with Lucky Millinder’s orchestra during the

early 1940s and again more than a decade later, Sister Rosetta was a true pioneer on

numerous levels. It was said time and again that she played guitar as deftly as any man, something of a backhanded compliment but

undeniably true. By any yardstick, hers was not an easy journey at a time when glamorous female stars were unheard of in her chosen

musical field. The impact of Sister Rosetta Tharpe on the development of both gospel and primordial rock and roll is incalcuble. Her

Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote the book on Southern rock with their first album, so it only made sense that they followed it for the

second album, aptly titled Second Helping. Released in 1974, the group turned out a record that replicated all the strength

of the original but was a little tighter and a little more professional. This album featured the bands biggest hit single “Swee

Home Alabama” and reached #12 on the US Billboard album chart.

“Street Survivors” appeared in stores in October 1977, just days before Lynyrd Skynyrd’s touring plane crashed, tragically

killing many members of the band. If the band had lived, “Street Survivors” would have been seen as an unqualified

triumph, a record that firmly re‐established Skynyrd’s status as the great Southern rock band. The album achieved Gold

certification in the US just 10 days after its release. It would later go double Platinum.
