Mission

• CAPS has three long-term goals:

– preventing new HIV infections,

– developing social/behavioral approaches to improve

health outcomes among HIV-infected people, and

– reducing disparities.

• UCSF is the largest recipient of NIH funding of Departments of Medicine.

• The Division of Prevention Science is the largest recipient of NIH funding of the 16 Divisions in the Department.

Center Grant• The Center for AIDS Prevention Studies

(CAPS) is a P30 grant from NIMH will be in year 4 of 5 years (FY 15) – 9/1/12–6/30/16.

• Funding for the center is $1.6 million, a reduction from prior years.

• The CAPS center grant covers 9% of the Division’s core operating expenses.

Center for AIDS Prevention Studies• In 2013, CAPS provided services to over 100 investigators

and trainees conducting HIV prevention research.

• This included service to over 100 research and training grants.

• In 2013, CAPS investigators published over 150 papers in peer reviewed journals.

• CAPS remains the largest university-based group of social, behavioral, policy and prevention scientists responding to HIV in the world. (Don’t forget about us!)
