UConn holds one of the largest accounts with the Red Cross in Connecticut. The UConn Red Cross Club tries to hold as many blood drives as possible, usually within two months of each other said UConn’s American Red Cross

Club President Marissa Wargo.

Each donor goes through a four step

process of registration,

confirming their medical history,

performing a limited physical, blood

donation, and being served refreshments.

The Red Cross reports a single pint of blood may save up to three people’s lives. A UConn blood drive’s general goal is to donate 80-150 pints of blood

said Wargo.

“Donating is very relaxing. It’s a good break from responsibility. It’s not the most comfortable but it’s worth it, and the nurses do a good job of keeping

you company,” Martin said.

“My mom always gave blood every six weeks, or as much as possible. Whenever I’m clear, I just automatically sign up. It’s a good cause,” said

UConn freshman Steven Martin.

The Red Cross reports “people donate blood out of sense and community spirits, not to make money. They are not paid for their donation.”
