PART 1: Rules and Regulations

Regulations:

The race shall be held under the 2014 USAC/UCI regulations: notably, safety, starting order, course guidelines, and duration of events.

Participation:

Categories: The event will include UCI elite men, elite women and Junior Men 17-18 categories as well as amateur categories as part of the SoCalCross Prestige Series and shall be organized in accordance with USAC and UCI regulations.

USAC categories will include: Junior Men and Women 9-14, 15-18, Master Men 35+ CX1-4, 45A CX 1-4, 35+ B CX3-5, 45+ B CX3-5, 55+ CX 1-5, Women 35+ CX1-4, Men CX1-4, Women CX1-4, Men CX3-5, Women CX3/4, Men CX4-5, Women CX4, Single Speed A CX1-4, Single Speed B CX4-5 and Single Speed Women CX1-4. Other races include one lap of CX course: Youth Race Age 6-9, First timer Race

Cyclocross Racing Age:

A rider's 2014-15 racing age, according to UCI 5.1.001 The category to which the license-holder belongs on 1 January of the civil year following will be used for his participation in events for the whole season. In other words, A rider's racing age for all categories is determined by his/her age on December 31, 2015.

Registration:

UCI Pre-registration is available online at www.SoCalCross.org/register and ends Thursday November 20th at 11:45pm Pacific. Race registration will also be available on race day at venue for all USAC Categories. USAC race registration opens at 7:00AM then 2 hours before each category start and closes 20 minutes prior to each race wave start. UCI race day registration WILL NOT be allowed.

All UCI registration MUST be done on-line BEFORE on-line registration closes Thursday 11.29. Rider confirmation and race number pick-up closes 1 hour before start of the UCI races.

Racing License:

A valid USA CYCLING or UCI international license is required to participate.

For UCI events Elite Men, Elite Women and Junior Men 17-18 riders are required to hold a an International Cycling License.

USAC licenses required and One-day licenses will be available at race for non-UCI events. One-day licenses will be available for purchase for $15 at race for non-UCI events categories CX4-5 only.

Annual USAC licenses are required for CX categories 1-3.

Online Entry Fees: A $10 race day fee ($5 for Juniors, Youth, First Timers) will be added to entry price.

• UCI Elite Men $45 (no race day registration is available for UCI categories)

• UCI Elite Women $45 (no race day registration is available for UCI categories)

• UCI Junior Men 17-18 $30

• USAC Masters Men & Women (all ages) $30

• USAC Categories (Non UCI 1/2/3/4) $30

• USAC Juniors (9-14, 15-18) $15

• OTHER: Youth age 6-9 and First timers $5

Number Placement:

Hip numbers are to be placed on your LEFT SIDE. Shoulder numbers shall be worn on the upper forearm/shoulder so it is visible frontally. Riders shall ensure that their number is visible and legible at all times. Numbers folded, altered or not well fixed will result in a fine according to USAC & UCI regulations.

Start Order & Staging Protocol:

UCI rule 5.1.043 – Elite: The start order will be determined by the order of latest published UCI cyclocross point classification from highest to lowest. Riders with no UCI points will receive start number by random draw lots.

Bike Washing Area:

Spray washing will be available within the pit area as needed. With an auxiliary wash area portable bike wash will be set up as needed for pre-post race clean-up at the south end of the parking lot.

Pit Pass & Mechanic’s Protocol:

Mechanic passes will be issued at Registration/Packet Pick-up. No other persons will be allowed in the pit.

First Aid-Medical:

First Aid-Medical will be situated in 10x10 enclosed tents and located adjacent to the start/finish. Emergency ambulance will be located in the parking lot near the start grid. A licensed physician will be available on site in case of emergency. An ambulance will be on site for UCI categories.

Anti-Doping:

All races are conducted under USA Cycling, UCI and USADA anti-doping regulations. Riders must check to see if they are required to submit to doping control. Doping Control will be located in the HQ trailer on paved along the start/finish. The trailer will be designed with features to allow for Doping Control to take place separate from Race HQ and Press Room.

Awards Area:

Riders finishing in the top 5 of UCI categories: elite men, U23 men, Elite Women, Junior Men 17-18 shall report IMMEDIATELY to the podium waiting area. Only riders and staff are allowed in the podium waiting area. NO EXCEPTIONS. Mechanics must post bikes in the “winner’s rack” within 5 minutes of the finish. Mechanics are to stay with the bikes until after their rider’s press conference.

Race Headquarters & Press Room:

Race headquarters and Press Room trailers will be located in the main parking lot adjacent to awards podium and race registration. Wireless internet will be provided.

Prize Money Scale:

Prize money will be awarded per the UCI C2 race 2014-15 Prize money scale (see breakdown last page) for all UCI events EXCEPT SoCalCross will pay equal prize money to top 5 UCI elite men and elite women.

Payment Procedure:

Proper Tax forms will be required for UCI racers and MUST be filled out at registration. Foreign riders must complete the IRS Form 1042 S before picking up prizes. NO prizes will be paid without these. Your 1099 forms will be given to you at that time. All payments will be paid by check only. No cash will be distributed.

PART 2: Course Description

ABOUR THE PARK – GRIFFITH PARK:

Vermont Canyon Park is located next to the Greek Theater, Los Angeles' premiere outdoor theatre, is nestled in the picturesque tree-enclosed setting of Griffith Park.

With over 4,210 acres of both natural chaparal-covered terrain and landscaped parkland and picnic areas, Griffith Park is the largest park in the City of Los Angeles as well as the largest municipal park with urban wilderness area in the United States.

ABOUT THE COURSE:

This event will be held in the largest and most popular park in the City of Los Angeles.

Griffith Park has many amazing features and this UCI level demanding course would be a great spectacle with its visibility in the heart of Vermont Canyon sitting next to the historic Greek Theatre and just below the Griffith Park Observatory.

This 3.0 km course begins with a 100meter pavement section then turns to dirt and turns into the grass meandering through the park. It includes one double barrier section, sand pit and one stairs section.

Course features include: a slightly uphill paved straightaway start/finish and is comprised of 60% grass, 10% pavement, and 30% dirt. There will be a double pit (2-way) location in the center of the course, splitting the midway points in each direction of the course. It will include a bike wash station for races in progress. An auxiliary wash will be located in the bike pit as needed and adjacent to the permanent restroom structure in the center of the park.

COURSE IS OPEN FOR RIDER INSPECTION at 8:00am each race day and in between waves after the race leaders have finished and instructed by the race official.

You can’t miss it. From the Santa Monica Frwy (10) Vermont Ave exit, head North on Vermont Ave to the Park. From the Hollywood Frwy (101) North to the Vermont Ave exit, North on Vermont to the park. From the Hollywood Frwy (101) Southbound to the Vine Street exit. Go straight under the underpass, you will be going East on Franklin. Turn left on Western NORTH as it becomes Los Feliz. Turn left on Vermont NORTH and follow it to the park. EVENT PARKING: Public parking is available along Vermont Ave near race venue first come first served. Do not park at Golf Course.
