Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Vice-Chancellor hoisted the tricolour National Flag accompanied by Dr. T. Narendrappa, Dean (Student Welfare). Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor reiterated that India's Independence Day is significant as it stands as a reminder of the sacrifices that many freedom fighters made to get independence from British rule. He mentioned the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Subhas Chandra Bose and many more who helped in (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav) India's freedom struggle. Vice-Chancellor expressed his concern for the lives of Covid-19 victims of Karnataka and other parts of the country. He commended the country's accomplishments in the field of agriculture, sports, heath, education, infrastructure and science & technology. He elicited the achievements like development of 10 selected parks as Platinum Jubilee Model Parks, Green Country Campaign Planting, Global Tech Festival, ISRO's Automatic clock in Navigation of Satellites and others. He recalled some of the achievements of the University like helping farmers through Agri-War Unit during Covid-19 lockdown, PG Automation (online, cashless and paperless) system, Decentralized Digital Evaluation, collaboration with Western Sydney University, Australia; Students and faculty achievements & awards; NAAS score improvement & listing of MJAS in UGC Care List and others. However, owing to challenges faced due to Covid-19 Pandemic, he called for the integrated efforts to espouse sustainable agriculture. th(AICRPDA) on 30 August, 2021 at Chikkaputtayanapalya, the adopted village under NICRA in Nelamangala taluk of Bengaluru Rural District. Dr. Mudalagiriyappa, Chief Scientist, AICRPDA, UAS-B highlighted the activities of AICRPDA and NICRA. Farmers interacted with the Scientists and shared their experience and benefits of improved technological interventions. Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, CRIDA, Hyderabad, emphasized on interventions to bridge yield gap between research and farmers field and suggested to plan and implement different programs in holistic approach for climate resilience. Dr. G. Raveendra Chary, Project Coordinator, AICRPDA, highlighted the need for

convergence with line departments and popularization of Mango based agri-horti system. Dr. S.K. AICRP ON CASTOR, UAS, GKVK, BENGALURU conducted front line demonstrations in 150 farmers fields during kharif 2021 on improved cultivars, spacing, nutrient management and weed management. Dr. Yamanura, Breeder & Head and Dr. R. Mohan Kumar, Agronomist visited farmer's field and educated the farmers regarding influence of showcased technologies on castor productivity. Further, the Scientists conducted method demonstration of nipping to complement gray mold management and to boost productivity in rainfed castor. Looking into the performance of castor hybrid ICH-66 demonstrated in Karadagere of Turvekere Taluk, Tumakuru District, farmers are overwhelmed and expressed their desire to cultivate the hybrid in the coming seasons.
