SA OPEN DAYThank you to all the people who attended our South Australia Open Day. Both days were a huge hit with customers witnessing a variety of demonstrations includ-ing high frequency wall and wire sawing, floor grinding and construc-tion equipment while en-joying a bite to eat and a refreshing drink. Congratulations to C&N Sawing and Drilling who won the 4 burner BBQ valued at $1000. We’re looking forward to the Saturday night BBQ at your place!!

Tyrolit HQ has moved:AS of June 2012 TYROLIT NSW officially moved. This new location for all Administration, Sales, Service and Dispatch is situated at 9 Tarlington Place, Smithfield. This gave everyone a chance to put names to faces and allowed everyone to voice their opinion. It was such a success that another meeting is being planned for the month of August.

Flooring and Finishes Expo:After advertising in the Flooring magazine TYROLIT was offered the opportunity to take part in the annual Flooring and Finishes Expo which was held on the 19th -22nd of July. On display we had HTC machines as well as examples of thedifferent stages concrete goes through to reach HTC superfloor specification.

HTC ACADEMYThe HTC Academy is a great forum to stay up-to-date on all the flooring concepts coming out of Sweden. In particular guests will become accredited in HTC Superfloor polished concrete and gain a betterunderstanding of HTC Tooling and Machinery Concepts.

Concrete Resurfacing Systems have used the HTC Superfloor system to help complete the D.R.E.A.MThe Dandenong Regional Education Alliance Model (D.R.E.A.M) training centre built at the Dandenong campus of the Chisholm Institute provides secondary students with hands-on trade experiences in a new $7.5m trade centre.

This modern, edgy and innovative building constructed by the AMP Group and designed by Vincent Chrisp & Partners will have hundreds of studentspass through its rooms on any given day. This means that a stylish, durable and practical floor was needed.

Concrete Resurfacing Systems and the architects Vincent Chrisp & Partners needed a solution fast. Together they devised a plan to polish the existing 400sqm concrete slab; using the powerful and robust HTC 800 diamond floor grinder supplied by TYROLIT Australia. With this machine they were able to produce a platinum finished Superfloor in less than 3 weeks, demonstrating CRS efficiency and ability to deliver on time with impressive results.

This brand new centre offers students from surrounding colleges and high schools the opportunity to train in trades which they may wish to pursue after finishing school. A variety of training programs have been chosen to fulfill needs across South East Melbourne including building and construction, plumbing, engineering and hairdressing to name a few.

Using HTC’s machinery accompanied with the Tyrolit HTC easy change range of diamond tooling, CRS were able to grind the concrete exposing its natural characteristics and appeal. It was then polished to create an enhanced and at-tractive floor. The grinding process revealed a varying degree of natural aggregate within the concrete allowing for an unmistakable floor, then using a special environmentally friendly all natural penetrating sealing system that does not produce a film on the concrete surface CRS were able to preserve the Dream institutes durable and perfectly finished surface. The easy maintenance and cleanliness of the new flooring system have been major points of positive feedback. Where carpeted, tiled or wooden floors in such high traffic areas would need constant deep cleaning and maintenance, polished concrete floors only require minimal preservation to maintain a high gloss.

HTC’s Superfloor Platinum finish produces the highest gloss rating finish possible and is a concept which is highly recommended by all customers. The result is an outstandingly durable floor.

Inherent in the HTC Superfloor are its environmental benefits. It harnesses the thermal mass properties of the concrete reducing costs in heating during winter and air conditioning in summer, as well as enhancing the D.R.E.A.M centres’ lighting due to the reflective surface of the new flooring. Where a bland concrete slab once lay, an uplifting and interesting Platinum HTC Superfloor now provides an impressive feature to the building.

NEW TYROLIT COREBITS

TYROLIT GRAIN DISTRIBUTION (TGD)

As part of the new upgrade work at the Black Rock sewage treatment plant, the latest innovation in transfer pumps, wererequired to be installed into the existing holding tanks. This work was necessary to transfer its contents from one tank to another as part of the refurbishment works. This job had to be completed in a 16 hour shutdown period from start to finish.

Super City Concrete Cutting were contracted by Laurie Curran Water to supply four Hydrostress BC-2 hydraulic drilling unitsfitted with GR 1000 drive motors, to drill 4 x 600mm diameterholes through a 500mm thick reinforced concrete tank wall.

This drilling stage required the shutdown of the treatment plant meaning that the experienced team had to complete the valve block installation in a maximum of four hours. This job was made harder due to the amount of reinforcing in the concrete tank walls.

Looking at the “as-built drawing” and realising the amount of reinforced concrete coupled with the limited time frame it was decided that diamond core drilling with TYROLIT TGD (Tyrolit Grain Distribution) core bits were to be the most effectivemeans in creating the 600mm diameter openings.

On previous projects Super City Concrete Cutting were able to demonstrate the capability of the TYROLIT Hydrostress drilling system. Knowing this the client was satisfied that based on the information and experience of Super City the project could be completed well within the required time frame.

To actively complete the job in the four hour window Super City were able to design a work method that ensured they could meet deadlines for the core drilling stage. Also to assist in tough jobs like this Super City had recently purchased an ultra-scan unit to help locate and identify reinforcing and services embedded in concrete structures. The unit was used to locate both sets of reinforcing bars in the horizontal and vertical position. They were then able to draw a grid on the concrete walls showing exactly where the reinforcment bars were located within the wall.

Jason Franken owner of Super City Concrete Cutting negotiated with the client to shift the set out by 30mm to avoid splitting horizontal bars which had the potential to jam up the 600mm core bits. Once the guidelines were confirmed Super City mounted four Tyrolit Hydrostress BC-2 drill stands to the wall and centred them to the circumference of each hole.

As the thickness of the walls were known Super City were given permission to pre drill 380mm into the wall structure meaning that they were able to complete the majority of the drilling prior to the day of the shutdown.

Each hole took an average of 40 minutes to drill with two sets of 28mm bar front and back at 150mm centres. The NEW TGD (Tyrolit Grain Distribution) core bits supplied by TYROLIT worked extremely well in the heavy reinforcing and maintained a high work rate.

TGD TechnologyTYROLIT GRAIN DISTRIBUTION ensures a quick and consistent cutting rate thanks to the optimum distribution of the grain.
