WHAT IS TYPOGRAPHY

• FONT FAMILY: a group of related type faces unified by a set of similar design characteristics (e.g., Arial, Bodoni, Futura, Helvetica)

• FONT: the source of the typeface (some people don’t distinguish between “font” and “typeface”; within each font there can be several typefaces, such as bold, italic, bold italic, etc.

• TYPEFACE: a complete set of characters, punctuation, and symbols that share a common design or set of design elements (e.g., degree of stroke contrast, angle of emphasis, stroke shape, serif or non-serif, curved form)
