Christmas Concert
What a fantastic community event we had last night. The courtyard was again full of
parents, grandparents, family and friends as we celebrated another great year at
WASPS. The evening kicked off with a selection of Christmas songs performed by Miss
Buckland, Mrs Howse and Mr Downs followed by the performances of each grade
singing Christmas songs and carols. Our Junior Band and Senior Band also entertained
us with songs they have learnt over the year. The Choirs performance was fantastic
although we had to cut the performance short because of the threat of storms.
Of course, one of the highlights of the evening is the passing of the candles ceremony
which symbolises the passing on of responsibility from our Grade 6 students to our
Grade 5 students. It is always an emotional event as we say goodbye to our Grade 6
students who for many, have spent seven years at WASPS.
A huge thank you to Mr Downs, Mrs Howse, Mr Deak and our wonderful staff for all their
hard work in putting together another fantastic community event. Many thanks also to
Mrs Georgi Papenfuss, Mrs Tammy Nagorcka and the team for organising drinks and ice-
creams for all to enjoy prior to the concert.
School Captains
Last night we heard from our School Captains, Isabelle and Mitchell, about what the year
and indeed their time at WASPS has meant to them. Both Mitchell and Isabelle have
been outstanding leaders and role models this year and our school is so much better off
as a result. We will have a chance to thank Isabelle and Mitchell again at our final
assembly on Thursday 20th December.
As we said goodbye to Isabelle and Mitchell last night we also announced our School
Captains for 2019.
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Tilly and Kai will lead our school next year.
Congratulations to all the students who nominated for School Captain and leadership
roles. We are so fortunate to have so many capable students take on leadership roles
and after a process of speaking to students and staff, Tilly and Kai were selected.
Congratulations Tilly and Kai. We look forward to you both leading our school next year.
Families Leaving WASPS.
At last nights’ concert, Bridget Smith our School Council President, thanked the many
families who are ending their association with WASPS.
We thank the following families, Clancy, Coppens, Ferrall, Javor, Marcelo, McLachlan,
Paton, Ngo, Rakogiannis, Senaratne, Vanin–Smith, Verbene, Walker, Gardner, Zhang,
Hocking, Trichias, Ohia, Temple and Smith for your enormous contribution and support
over many years. On behalf of the school community, we wish you all the best for the
future.
Choir Attending ARCARE
Last Friday our School Choir attended ARCARE and entertained the residents, many of
whom suffer from dementia. Of all the extra curricula programs we offer at WASPS the
visits to ARCARE are so special. The relationships, care and empathy our children have
with the residents is exceptional.
Many thanks to Mrs Howse and our Choir for once again putting big smiles on all the
residents’ faces.
Drum Teacher 2019
As we all know, Mr John Milton our drum teacher for many years, has taken on a
permanent music position at a Secondary school on the other side of town. Whilst we
will all miss John, we are very excited to welcome Mr Tyler Campbell to our WASPS music
team. Tyler’s resume is included in this newsletter and will be attending our final
assembly on Thursday 20th December. Welcome Tyler.
Car Parking
Many thanks to all the parents who are abiding by the road rules and parking correctly
to keep our children safe. Unfortunately, we still have a few who are not abiding by the
2 Minute Zone or parking across the entrance to the Doctor’s Surgery which is causing
issues for children and patients. Knox Council have been informed and will be making
regular visits with potentially fining anyone who is disobeying the strict parking rules.
Thank you once again to everyone who is abiding by the road rules.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Drum Lessons with Tyler Campbell - 2019
Hello everyone, I’m a drum teacher and drummer who’ll be joining the music
teaching staff at Wantirna South in 2019.
I’ve been drumming for 12 years and completed my Bachelor of Applied
Music in 2014. Since then I’ve been teaching drummers all over Melbourne,
playing in various bands and recording for various artists. Over the past few
years, I’ve completed two Australian tours and a tour of Ireland.
I teach students a strong drumming foundation to help them develop their
own voice on the drums. I’ve spent the last 7 years developing a diverse
teaching curriculum based on each individual student’s needs.
If interested in enrolling for drum lessons in 2019 feel free to contact me!
