Mr. Mac’s Retiring
It is with a heavy heart but also a sense of excitement that I wish to inform you all that I
will be retiring after 45 years of service with the Education Department. I have
thoroughly enjoyed my teaching career and more particularly my last eight years as
Principal of our wonderful school. Whilst it will be a sad day on Friday the 28th June, I
know I’m leaving the school in a fantastic place. We have a marvellous school community
of students, parents and teachers. Our future is extremely bright. I’m also excited to
spend more time with my family, friends, travelling, playing more golf and whatever else
life throws at me.
The Education Department and School Council will now start the process of selecting a
new Principal for our great school and all being well, the successful candidate will begin
at the start of Term 3.
I’m looking forward to spending my last six weeks catching up with you all.
Mother’s Day Stall
Congratulations to Georgi Papenfuss and her many helpers for organising a fantastic
Mother’s Day stall last Friday. The children were so excited to have such a large selection
of gifts to choose from for their Mums and special friends.
Education Week
Next week is Education Week at WASPS.
On Tuesday we welcome all the Grandparents/Special Friends of our Prep, Grade 1 and
2 students to a concert from 2.00p.m.- 3.00p.m. in the Multi-purpose Room. Our guests
will then have an opportunity to visit classrooms from 3.00p.m.-3.30p.m.
Our Open Night will be held also on Tuesday from 5.00p.m. - 6.30p.m. where we all have
the opportunity to see and experience what the children have been learning in the
classroom.
Come along and experience Literacy in the Prep Room, Wellbeing in Grade 1 and 2,
Numeracy in Grade 3 and 4 and Science and Technology in Grade 5 and 6. The Grade 5
and 6 students will have access to numerous robots and equipment that they are
currently using at Swinburne TAFE (KIOSK Centre) each week.
Our School Choir and Glee Club will also be performing at 5.30p.m.
School tours with myself and senior staff will also be available.
We are also having an Open Morning on Thursday from 9.00a.m. - 11.00a.m.
I look forward to seeing everyone throughout the course of the week.
Thanks To Our PA
Many thanks to our fantastic PA who raise much needed funds for our school and as a
result of their hard work we have purchased a new pie warmer for the Buzz Café. We
are also looking at purchasing some new iPads and robots to support the learning of our
students.
School Athletics Team
A huge congratulations to our 70 super athletes who represented our school at the
District Athletics last week. Our Athletic Team performed brilliantly finishing third overall
and we have many students who will now go on to represent our school at Regional level
in Term 4.
A special congratulations to Talysha and Logan who were named as Champions of the
Athletic Carnival.
Structure Over Basketball Court
As you are aware, last year we received monies under the Inclusive Schools Grant to
fund a structure over our East West basketball court. On Thursday we signed off on the
tender documents and we will go to tender in the next few days. Once the successful
company has been selected we are hoping construction will begin very quickly.
Aussie Assembly
Tomorrow is an Aussie Assembly to be held at 2.45p.m. in the Multi-purpose Room
where we will announce our Aussie, Sports Star, Performing Artist and Visual Artist of
the Month. I look forward to seeing everyone at assembly tomorrow.
Have a good weekend, and …………
“Go Tigers”!

OFFICE NEWS ……………… Late Arrival If your child is late for school, please accompany them to the office and sign them in in the Late Arrivals Book. Mobile Phones If your child brings a Mobile phone with them to school, please remind them that they must be stored at the office and collected at the end of the day. Lyndall, Deb & Carol
We are excited to be taking part in the 2019 Earn & Learn program. During previous
campaigns, we have been able to purchase some great resources with the points we
have earned, thanks to the support of our wonderful school community.
From now until June 25th, you can collect stickers at Woolworth that go towards Earn
& Learn points. These stickers can then be given to your children to place on a special
sticker sheet that you can also collect from Woolworths. Once the sheet has been filled
with stickers, students can bring it back to school and place it in the Earn & Learn box
that will be arriving over the next week and will be placed in the foyer of our school
entrance.
The more points we earn, the more we can redeem for educational resources for our
school. We are very grateful for your support and look forward to another successful
program.
WASPS Wellbeing News
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) helps students develop the understanding, strategies and skills
that support a positive sense of self, promote respectful relationships and build their capacity to
recognise and manage their own emotions and make responsible decisions. It aims to foster the
skills of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, social management and critical and
creative thinking.
Every fortnight on Thursdays, students participate in
Wellbeing lessons that focus on SEL. The content of these
lessons aims to help students to develop their skills in
recognising and regulating their emotions, establishing and
building positive relationships, empathy, working effectively
in teams, and improving their ability to handle challenging
situations.
The lessons form an important part of our approach to
developing the ‘whole child’ and assisting students to become lifelong learners and make positive
contributions to society. It has been wonderful to see our students enjoying the lessons and I look
forward to sharing some of their thoughts with you over the coming weeks.
Have a wonderful week!
