    ummer Greens patrollers are taking

back their suburb on step at a time.

    With regular patrols, the Summer

    Greens Neighbourhood Watch (SGNHW)

is making their presence felt among drug

    dealers. TygerBurger joined patrollers on

Friday and while they walk through the

dark, cold streets, their warm welcome

    makes everyone feel excited.

The night starts with a sign-in session

at the head office on Summer Greens

Drive, from where they make their way

to a home where thieves had just stolen

valuables. The owner was out celebrating

    her graduation and neighbours quickly

    rally to assist.

    The neighbourhood watch distributes

    pamphlets and provides residents with

tips on how to keep their homes safe.

    Speaking during the patrol, Reagan

Croeser, who heads up the watchs opera-

tions, explains some of the main crime

concerns are drug dealing, house break-

ins and theft. Due to the rapid growth of

the suburb, Croeser says residents fight

an uphill battle with overcrowding espe-

    cially in sectional title units.

People are coming and going all the

time, so it is hard to point out who the

    troublemakers are. We can, however,

identify some of the known problematic

    houses and crime hotspots.

    During the walk, patrollers identify

various issues, and at the top of the list

are the left over needles used by drug us-

ers. During a search, patrollers collect the

needles and dispose of it safely.

In the area of open space which runs

along the railway line, SGNHW chairper-

son Gary Jacobs picks up several used

    needles.Aspatrollers approachwith their

torches a woman appears out of the dark

and leaves in a hurry when she sees pa-

trollers. Jacobs explains there are con-

cerns about the safety of children in these

public spaces where the needles are

found. For this reason, the watch routine-

    ly cleans up the area.

The group of friendly men and women

continue their patrol and when spotting

a potential safety risk, they alert home

    owners. This includes informing people

they have left valuables in their vehicles

and in some cases they have left their ga-

    rage doors open.

For Croeser and the group its all about

maintaining visibility, and he says while

they spend several hours away from their

families, thewatch believes in doing their

bit to keep their neighbourhood safe.

We have also started to plan activities

for our children at the neighbourhood

watch office while we are out on patrol.

We want to instil these values in our chil-

    dren.

V If you would like to join the watch or would like

    more information, call 072 874 1697.

Patrollers get ready to take to the streets.

    Call for reading volunteers

Milnerton Public Library has started their

    reading programme at Marconi Beam

Primary School and are in need of more

volunteers on a Monday or Tuesday from

09:00 to 11:00. For more information call

    Elmarie Waltman on 021 444 0816.

Activities are planned to keep children busy while their parents patrol the suburb.

Milnerton police have revealed the identity

of a woman whose body was found dumped

in a bin in Phoenix last year.

The gruesome find sent shock waves

through the small community in October as

    reports from eyewitnesses surfaced indicat-

ing the womans face had been mutilated.

The bin was found dumped in a field near

Taurus Road and at the time residents re-

ported a homeless man had found the wom-

an while scratching in the bin.

At the time, Milnerton police confirmed

the woman had injuries to her face. Last

    week, police spokesperson Warrant Officer

Daphne OReilly confirmed they now know

who the woman was she was Amina Chin-

eye who was 26 years old at the time of her

    death. OReilly further explained police

used the womans fingerprints to identify

    her.

In 2012 she was arrested by Woodstock

police for drugs and she was on the system.

That is how we found a picture of her.

    UrsulaMarshall, chairperson of the Phoe-

nix Ratepayers Association, says they are

glad the body has been identified.

Now her family can lay her to rest. There

was a lot of speculation about who she could

be, butwe are glad that police have been able

    to conclude the matter.

Police are now looking for the womans

family and say the womans last known ad-

dress was Loop Street in the Cape Town

    CBD.

The victim is not on the database for

    missing persons.

V If you are able to provide police with information

about the womans family, call Sergeant Shaun van

    der Heever on 021 528 3849.

This is the face of Amina Chineye, the

woman whose body was discovered in a bin

    Call to halt fireworks

    MONIQUE DUVAL

    @monique_duval

    A

ll eyes will be on the Blaauwberg Sub-

council this week to see whether or

not Table View residents can expect

fireworks along the beachfront during 2016.

This follows a recent recommendation by

theward 23 committee that no site along the

beachfront from Dolphin Beach to Melk-

bosstrand be deemed as suitable for the dis-

charge of fireworks on Guy Fawkes Day,

    Diwali and New Years Eve.

In the last year, residents living along the

beachfront have cried foul about the desig-

nation of the fireworks site near the old

tourism office. This was based on the City

of Cape Town safety criteria which among

others stipulate that the designated site

must be at least 500m from a petrol depot.

Due to the filling station at Marine Circle

and the close proximity of homes, residents

    have challenged the municipalitys deci-

    sion.

This also prompted a motion by ward 23

committee member Mandy Da Matta call-

ing for the site to be removed. The motion

was first tabled in November but voted as

not urgent by the committee and fire-

    workswere allowed onNewYears Eve. The

    motion then stood over.

Shortly before this, theCity receiveda let-

ter from De Abreu and Cohen Attorneys

who acted on behalf of the Table View Rate-

payers Association (TVRA) and the Waves

    EdgeCommunity Forumoutlining their ob-

jections. In addition to highlighting the

safety criteria set out by the municipality,

they outlined the regulations of the Explo-

    sives Act of 2003.

According to the minutes of the latest

ward committee meeting, the motion did

not appear on the January ward committee

agenda due to an administrative oversight.

It did, however appear on the March agen-

da. According to the minutes, Blaauwberg

    subcouncil manager Peter Deacon apolo-

gised for the oversight and proposed that

the contents of Da Mattas motion be noted

and in addition that no designated site be

    allowed on the beachfront.

In view of the numerous objections re-

    ceived from the immediate surrounding

    owners/occupiers of properties, a petition

submitted to the office of the ombudsman

and the negative media reports received in

respect of the identified and demarcated

site/s along the beachfront from Dolphin

Beach to Melkbosstrand that NO area/s

along the said beachfront be identified and/

or demarcated for the setting off of fire-

works by the public duringGuyFawkes, Di-

wali and New Years Eve festivities, he

    says in the minutes.

Theward 23 committee resolved their rec-

    ommendation in accordance with Deacons

proposal and in addition resolved that in

the event of this being accepted by the sub-

council, there will be no operational plans

in place by the City to control, manage and

assist in the event of any injuries or damage

in respect of the beach area from Dolphin

Beach to Melkbosstrand being used by the

public for the setting off of fireworks.

Responding to questions posed by Tyger-

Burger,Deacon says a report containing the

    motion and recommendation from theward

23 committee will be considered by council-

    lors tomorrow (Thursday).

Asked whether the subcouncil can reject

the recommendation, he says: Yes, the sub-

council can reject theward committees rec-

ommendation. It is however difficult to say

or indicate on which grounds, but it can

surely first establish from the relevant line

    departments what the consequences could

be if an area is not identified and/or demar-

    cated for that purpose.

    TVRA chairperson Leon Alhadeff says

they are ecstatic at the recommendation

and hope it will be accepted.

VDo you think fireworks should be banned from the

beachfront between Dolphin Beach and Melkboss

trand? Tell us why and send a letter to briewe@

    Burglar caught redhanded

A man was arrested while he was breaking

into Blue Flame Gas and Hardware Distrib-

utors in Voortrekker Road early on

    Monday morning.

    Parow Police spokesperson Lieutenant

    Kevin Williams elaborates: We responded

to a business break-in in progress com-

plaint. On arrival we observed that the

burglar bars were forced open and the

window broken. We moved into the

premises and found a 40-year-old male

suspect sitting on the floor in the busi-

    ness.

The police apparently caught him while

he was still packing stolen property into

    blue bags.

They found hardware tools in his

possession to the value of R1 295.

The suspect was placed in custody and

    arrested for burglary.

He will appear in the Bellville Magis-

trates Court on Wednesday (today), says

    Williams.

    Anewexecutive committee for theMilnerton

    Community Policing Forumhas been elected

    and its business as usual.

The election follows the resignation of the

    chairperson and vice chairperson earlier

this year. Last week, Lianne Lippert, who

was the former secretary and acting chair-

person following the resignation of Karen

Visagie, was voted as the new chairperson.

Dean Williams was voted in as the vice

chairperson, Visagie as the projects coordi-

nator, and Cynthia Ludziya as the new secre-

tary. AndrewMentor will remain as the trea-

surer and Mike Lippert remains the public

    relations officer.

Speaking to TygerBurger last week, the

new chairperson says its business as usual.

Among some of the top priorities is the com-

pletion of the Community Safety Plan. She

says they have already received input from

    neighbourhood watches in Brooklyn and

    Tygerhof.

Wewill also bemeetingwith all the neigh-

bourhood watches to discuss their concerns

and needs to see howwe can assist. From the

feedback we have from Brooklyn and Tyger-

hof we can see that the main crime concerns

are drug dealing and contact crimes.

    In various community meetings, crime-

fighters have voiced their concerns about po-

lice visibility. Asked about the CPFs view,

Lippert says while they cannot justify this,

it was important to note that police resources

    is a national problem.

What we are excited about is that Milner-

ton police will receive a substantial boost in

    2017 with 60 new officers.

She says the CPF is serious about tackling

safety issues andurges thepublic to come for-

    ward with concerns.

When there are issues, we will be there

to assist as best we can. While many take to

social media to voice their dissatisfaction

when an incident happens they do need to

contact us and provide as much information

as possible. Things to take note of include the

location, time, date and description of the of-

ficer so we can help trace who is responsible

    and hold police accountable.

A woman was stabbed in the hand during a

    robbery in Brooklyn last week.

According to a report by Maitland police,

the incident happened at about 08:15 on Tues-

day 13 April in Justin Street. Police spokes-

    personConstableLorencial Johnson says the

23-year-old woman was robbed of her cell-

phone as well as other belongings and

stabbed in her hand by two unknown men.

Maitlandpolice rushed to the scene to find

a very traumatised victim of this ruthless

act. The officers attended to her complaint

and immediately started asking around as to

who these culprits could be and managed to

get possible names from the community.

The case was registered and the Maitland

    Crime Prevention Unit commenced their

search for the suspects. Just five hours later

they arrested the twomen aged 23 and 25who

say on the municipalitys draft bud-

    get.

The City of Cape Town has revealed

    their proposed expenditure for the

    2016/2017 financial year whilemayor Pa-

tricia de Lille has embarked on various

    public participation meetings and most

    recently discussed the municipalitys

plans with residents living in the

    Blaauwberg Subcouncil area.

Speaking during a public meeting in

Table View last week, De Lille explained

the Citys budget is allocated in accord-

ance with the municipalitys five strate-

    gic pillars, namely Opportunity City,

    SafeCity, CaringCity, InclusiveCity and

Well Run City. In the past three financial

years, the City has used the majority

funds in the first pillar, Opportunity

    City.HereR61,5 billionhas been spent on

    attracting large events and business,

provision and maintenance of water and

    electricity equipment and infrastruc-

ture, looking after resources such as

    cleandrinkingwater and effective public

    transport systems.

According to her presentation the allo-

cations for the next financial year across

the five pillars include R24,9bn for the

Opportunity City, R3bn for the Safe City,

R4,7bn for the Caring City, R2,6bn for the

Inclusive City and R5,5bn for the Well

    Run City.

The mayor also revealed some of the

    proposed projects for the Blaauwberg

    Subcouncil area covering wards 4, 23, 29,

    32, 104 and 107.

On the list of capital projects, R200 000

is allocated towards the installation of

CCTV cameras, R50 000 for sports equip-

ment in Joe Slovo Park, R180 000 for a

    skatepark inSummerGreens,R60 000 for

the beachfront from Dolphin Beach to

Other capital projects include R150 000

    for a skatepark atDolphinBeach,R50 000

for signage inpublic open spaces inPark-

lands and the upgrading of green spaces

    in Dunoon.

    De Lilles presentation also highlights

    the operating projects budget

    which includes R100 000 for

the cleaning of typha in Sun-

    ningdale and other various

    other social programmes for

    seniors, abused women and

    vulnerable groups.

    Looking back on projects

    over the last financial year,

    she highlighted the upgrade

    of the Atlantis Cemetery, the

    Pella Park development and

    the Dunoon Spraypark.

The City has also now ex-

    tended the comment period

    on the proposed budget to

    Friday 29 April.

    Deputy mayor Ian Neilson

    says by allowing more time

    on the draft R40,7bn budget,

they hope it will give more

    residents more time to scru-

    tinise the document and to

    contribute their insights and

    suggestions.

We have had to look very closely at

    balancing the Citys operational needs

with the realities on the ground and the

broader context in which we are work-

    ing.Wehave lookedatwherewe can trim

the fat, work more efficiently, get more

value for money, and also alleviate the

pressure on our residents where at all

    possible.

The Citys draft budget, including bud-

get-related policies and the proposed tar-

iffs and property rates, is available at

    @andrebakkes

Being a criminal in a technological world

is getting harder by the day as a new cloud-

based and web and cellphone app is about

    to hit the street.

A local IT company, Computer Guyz, de-

signed a world first android app named

    PatrolMan which will link neighbourhood

watches with its members, the public and

    the police. SMS alerts will

    keep everyone instantly

aware of what is going on in

    their neighbourhood suspi-

    cious people and vehicleswill

    be circulated and incidents

    will be highlighted.

    One of the developers,

    Craig Pedersen, elaborates:

The full version of the app

will be free until the end of

the year. We already have 100

    projects and 6 500 subscrib-

    ers. It just keeps growing!

The app is the brainchild of

    Pedersen. Initially he and his

    colleagueswanted to design it

    for their local neighbourhood

    watch in Milnerton, but the

    cost and time involved saw

    them broadening their hori-

    zons nationally. Subscribers

are now from all over South

    Africa.

    According to him all neigh-

    bourhood watch exco mem-

    bers and patrollers will have

access to the full app for free

even beyond December. People who sit

in their homes those who claim it is too

cold to patrol the streets will pay R120 a

year to use the Lite version. This version

will include the news feed and the SOS func-

    tion.

Pedersen is no newcomer to neighbour-

hood watches, having project managed the

Milnerton CrimeWatch for the past decade.

Its a product were really proud of and

we have been taken aback by the huge up-

take from watches countrywide. Theres a

core of 10-12 peoplewhomanage and run the

project, generally aided by 20 to 30 patrol-

lers who actively walk or drive patrols in

the area. Beyond this are a few hundred ac-

tive and interested members. Our app ca-

ters to all of these groups.

    Patrollers capture incident information

and photos while on patrol. That informa-

tion is in turn stored on a web

    server for monthly manage-

    ment reports.

At the same time, if a high

    priority incident is recorded,

an SMS notification is sent to

    the relevant street coordina-

    tor and project manager.

    Data usage is nominal and

    patrollers have the peace of

mind of being able to summon

    help by activating the SOS

    feature which will send out

    three SMS messages with

    their GPS coordinates. A

    built-in hotspot map shows

    patrollers where incidents

    are most commonly recorded

    in their area.

    The SOS command will

    SMS someones GPS coordi-

nates and an SOS message to

    three predetermined num-

bers. These can be the NHW

    patrol phone and friends or

    neighbours.

    From a technology stand-

point, the app is different to

the norm. While data capturing happens at

app level, the real magic is behind the

scenes in the web-based reporting and con-

trol. We believe we have something unique

and tailored to the South African market.

The IOS version is expected to be released

    middle May.

According to a report from Milner-

Potsdam Road has been closed and

aged. They are attacking all the for-

eigners now and we dont know what

If they see you with a bag going to

    work, you will be targeted.

She says while housing is a major

issue in Dunoon as the cold winter

    months loom, not everybody agrees

with the violence. For this reason a

peace march was hosted on Monday

    and community leaders will soon

    meet to discuss possible solutions.

You see, housing is a problem.

Winter will come and people will

    sleeponbeds filledwithwaterbut this

is not the way to address concerns.

    People lookingatDunoonmustun-

derstand that there is a problem but

these guys are troublemakers and are

doing damage to our community. Peo-

ple are being fooled by these guys and

everyone is scared to speak up be-

    cause you will be targeted.

We all have families to protect and

    we are scared.

    Meanwhile various City law en-

forcement agencies can be seen each

    morning along Potsdam Road, Mali-

bongwe Drive and the N7. Motorists

leaving Table View have been able to

    access these roads each morning.

    However, Maycomember for safety

    and security JPSmith says alongwith

the protest in Dunoon, officials are

    dealing with three other protests

which are soaking up all their resour-

ces. This is interfering with our

work in communities and these pro-

    tests are syphoning our resources.

    DESIRE RORKE

    @dezzierorke

    W

    idespread concerns were raised by

    residents following the second reg-

    istration weekend, prompting the

    DA to investigate.

In a letter sent from the DA head office

to allward councillors lastweek, itwas stat-

ed that the IEC (Independent Electoral

Commission) had confirmed that they have

not removed a single voter or information

of a voter, from the voters roll.

According to the IEC a voter who has

been verified and placed on the voters roll,

cannot be removed without an audit trail

indicating who removed that voter and the

    reasons for the removal.

Only a voter who has applied for de-reg-

istration in terms of section 10 of the Elect-

oral Act, may be removed completely from

the voters roll, the letter stated.

Chaos ensued after an SMSwent out from

the IEC to about 5 million voters, request-

ing voters to update their address informa-

tion. Voters became concerned about their

status on the voters roll and this panic in-

    creased after reports in themainstreamme-

dia when Glen Mashinini, Chairperson of

the IEC, warned that more than two-thirds

of the voters roll could be disenfranchised

due to the absence of sufficient address

    information.

    TygerBurger was flooded with com-

plaints from readers regarding the issue, of

    which somewere escalated toward council-

    lors.

In most of these complaints, readers say

their information could not be found on vot-

ers lists at various voting stations.

Carin Brynard, ward councillor for areas

in Brackenfell and Kraaifontein, last week

said there was still much uncertainty

around registration issues and that it was

of the utmost importance that residents ob-

    tain the correct information.

Following the events that unfolded and

the concerns raised by voters, the DA also

requested an updated voters roll from the

IEC to ensure accuracy of information con-

    tained in the voters roll.

The DA undertakes to report and follow

up on all matters of possible corruption or

    irregularities brought to their attention,

    the letter stated.

    Important answers

    Answers to important questions voters

    might have:

V I registered during the weekend of

5/6 March, but my information is not

    updated yet?

The IEC is currently experiencing a back-

log with the capturing of data. If your infor-

mation is still outdated on the IEC website

please contact the DAs call centre on

    0861 22 55 32 to assist.

V If I didnot updatemyaddress during

one of the two registration weekend,

will I still be able to vote?

Nobody may be taken off the voters role,

irrespective of the address or lack of an ad-

dress on the voters roll. Currently the IEC

has confirmed that all people currently on

the voters roll will be able to vote on 3 Au-

    gust.

The Constitutional Court will on 9 May

hear arguments regarding the addresses of

voters on the voters roll and the impact

that will have on the validity of the voters

    roll.

V Can I still update my address infor-

mation or re-register for the Local Gov-

    ernment Elections for 2016?

If you would like to re-register in a new

voting district or update your information,

you may do so by taking your ID document

to your nearest IEC office during office

    hours.

VHow would I know where my new

    Voting District is?

You can check if you are registered in the

    correct voting district on www.elec-

    tions.org.za. Alternatively, send an SMS

with your ID number to 32810 or call

    0861 22 55 32.

    Soles for souls

A duo from Dunoon appeared in

court last week after they were

    nabbed with an unlicensed firearm.

    According to a report fromMilner-

ton police the two men aged 25 and

28 were arrested in the Siyahlala in-

    formal settlement.

    Police spokesperson Warrant Offi-

cer Daphne OReilly says officers re-

ceived a tip-off from residents and

proceeded to search the mens home

where they found an unlicensed fire-

arm and two rounds of ammunition

hidden behind a speaker. The fire-

arm, known as a Baby Brown pistol,

    was handed in for evidence.

This is a good example ofwhat po-

lice can achieve with the assistance

    of the community. Management ap-

plauds officers for their dedication to

root out criminal elements in our

    communities.

    In anunrelated case,Milnerton po-

lice also arrested two people found in

    possession of suspected stolen goods

    in Rugby.

OReilly says on Monday 11 April

at about 13:00 officers searched a

    property in Nahum Street following

a tip-off and found three flat screen

    televisions, various cellphones and

    bags.

    When questioned, she explains the

two people could not provide proof of

    where they obtained the valuables

and were arrested. Officers also con-

fiscated a large amount of cash.

    MONIQUE DUVAL

    @monique_duval

    Milnerton police have issued a

    warning about scamsters oper-

ating at two ATMs in Loxton

    Road.

    Following various reports

    about card swopping and rob-

beries at the ATM banking area

for Standard Bank and FNB in

Loxton Road, the area has been

    identified as a crime hotspot.

    Police spokesperson Daphne

    OReilly says victims are over-

    powered when drawing money

and says an analysis of the re-

    ports indicate these incidents

    mostly occur over weekends

    and after business hours.

    One suspect distracts the

    victim, while the other steals

their bank card. During the rob-

    beries, no weapons were visible

and the ongoings at these ATMs

    havebeenhappening for the last

    three months.

    In addition, Loxton Road has

also been identified as a hotspot

area for theft from motor vehi-

cle and theft of motor vehicles,

    specifically at the parking bays

    at apartment blocks.

    OReilly advises residents to

    be aware of their surroundings

and to not carry orwithdraw ex-

    cessive amounts of cash.

If you are confronted by rob-

    bers, always signify your inten-

tion to cooperate but avoid eye

    contact. Respond promptly to

requests and do not act aggres-

trek voor julle begin, kom die

Nee wat, dis net vyf kilometers,

    dink ek.

Dt was egter toe n die geval nie.

Sien, tussendeur die vyf kilometers oor

heuwels, deur wingerde en oor water,

    was hindernisse obstacles soos die

Engelsman dit noem. Obstacles wat di

vyf kilometers vir my en kollega Brenden

Ruiter soos 50 kilometers laat voel het.

    Honderde het Sondagoggend vroeg aan

die gewilde The Grind Obstacle Course

Race saam met ons kom deelneem.

Almal van hulle is fiks, vars en slagge-

reed vir wat die organiseerders en

Moeder Natuur hul kant toe mag gooi.

    Kom, kom,

    kom! roep een van

    die marshalls. Dit

    help egter nie. Die

    pyn is te erg en

    ons longe het nog

    suurstof nodig.

    Hardloop julle

    maar, dag ek. Ons

    sien julle aan die

    voorkant. In my

    agterkop so

    terwyl ons stadig

    stap en klets dink

ek ek moes seker gestrek het.

Verder af in die wedloop moet ons by

n bult op. Onse eerste obstacle. Daar l

    nog 19 van hulle voor!

Elke man vir homself, dink ek terwyl

ek my kollega agterlaat. Aan die bokant

sluit hy egter kort daarna by my op die

    Housing protest sparks

    concern (TB, 13 April) refers.

I live in Dunoon in a backyard,

    renting a hokkie. What is

happening is a sorry state of

    affairs.

As much as I would love to

own a house one day, I do not

    agree with the housing

    protest that is currently taking

    place.

I hear stories about a man

    from Khayelitsha who belongs

to a certain political party and

is the leader. That, to me,

    changes everything. Its a

    political housing protest,

whatever you may call it. I am

not a politician, in fact I

dont like politics but I feel

sorry for the poor people being

    used by politicians for their

    own agendas. The people must

wake up the RDP is dead and

    buried; theres nothing for free.

    My 20c advice for the

    housing department is

    allocate the land, build low

    cost houses, introduce a rent

    to own scheme whereby the

    tenant would pay a fixed

amount for a number of years

then the house is his or hers.

I am sure most of the people

    would dive head-first for an

    opportunity like that.

    business (TB, 13 April).

    I regularly use Penny Pin-

    chers on Parklands main for

my DIY supplies. Not only is it

    convenient and well priced, but

    the manager, Werner, and his

    staff are always helpful and

    friendly.

I can relate to this story as I

    have also been harassed for

money by one such angry man.

It does feel a bit intimidating. It

was around 16:00 when the men

who prefer to be called ska-

    rellers had just come back

    from their bin digging.

    The mess that I witnessed

    separate incidents of abduction

We have to teach our chil-

ces. This is not getting better

it is part of the criminal

    rol speel in die Wes-Kaapse

    regering se veldtog om soge-

    naamde onwettige skole te

    sluit nie. In Regulasie 341/2011

    van die Wes-Kaapse regering,

    onderteken deur minister

Donald Grant, word die reg op

    onafhanklike onderwysinstel-

lings so ingeperk dat dit bykans

    onmoontlik is vir private skole

    om te registreer, wat alternatie-

    we vorme van onderwys

aanbied en poog om die unieke

    behoeftes van kinders te

    akkommodeer. In 2014 het die

    Wes-Kaapse regering gepoog om

    tuisonderwys in die provinsie te

    onderdruk met n drakoniese

    nuwe beleid.

As dit nie was vir die optrede

    van tuisonderwys-verenigings

    en die Pestalozzi-trust nie, sou

    minister Grant dit moontlik

    reggekry het om die Wes-Kaap

    te transformeer in die mees

    onvriendelike provinsie vir

    tuisonderwys. Dis hoog tyd dat

    private skole hulle ook verset

teen die aksies van die Wes-

    Kaapse regering, wat kinders en

    private onderwysinstellings se

    grondwetlike regte stelselmatig

    wegneem.

    undreds of competitors em-

    braced the grind at Hill-

    crest Wine and Olive Farm

    onSaturdayandSunday.The inau-

gural event is called The Grind

    and attracts proper athletes, corpo-

    rate fun-seekers, fitness enthusi-

    asts and run-of-the-mill adventur-

ers to complete an obstacle course.

    There were different categories

that varied from 1km to 8km

    some containing seven obstacles

    and others 30.

    Splashing, running, climbing,

    hanging and pulling were just

some of the copious grinding that

    will undoubtedly become bigger

    and better, year on year.
