• Twitter Handle: A Twitter handle is your username and the accompanying url. 

• @reply: The @reply means a Twitter update (a tweet) that is directed to another user in reply to their update. An @reply will be saved in the user's "Replies" tab. Replies are sent either by clicking the 'reply' icon next to an update or typing @ username message (e.g., @user I saw that movie too).

• ab/abt: Short for "about."• b/c: Twitter shorthand for "because."• B: Twitter shorthand for "be."• b4: Twitter shorthand for "before."• da: Often used on Twitter, this is a shortened version of "the.“

• Dweet: Slang term used to describe a tweet that has been sent by a user who is drunk.

• EM / eml: Shorthand versions of "e-mail" routinely used on Twitter.

• EMA: An acronym for "e-mail address" used on Twitter.• F2F: An acronym used on Twitter that means "face to face."• fab: A shortened version of “fabulous”; frequently used on

Twitter.• FAV: The FAV action on Twitter lets you mark a person's last

message as a favorite message to be displayed in your Favorites Tab. To use FAV, type FAV username.

• Follower / following: On Twitter, blogs, and other social media sites, a follower is someone who subscribes to receives your updates. On the Twitter Web site "following" someone means you will see their messages in your own personal timeline. Twitter lets you see all the people you follow and also who is following you.

• Hash tag: A hash tag or hashtag is a way of organizing your updates for Twitter search engines. Users prefix a message with a community-driven hash tag to enable others to discover relevant posts. One commonly used hash tag on Twitter is #followfriday where users network by providing the names of their favorite people to follow on Twitter.

• IC: Shorthand version for “I see.”• ICYMI: Short for "in case you missed it”• idk: An abbreviated form of “I don’t know”

• kk: Twitter shorthand for "kewl kewl" (cool cool).• Retweet: Abbreviated as RT, retweet is used on Twitter to show you

are tweeting something that was posted by another user. The format is RT @username where username is the Twitter name of the person you are retweeting.

• selfie: Slang phrase used to describe a photo that is taken of oneself where the right or left arm is extended with the camera held backwards.

• SMH: An acronym used for the saying “shaking my head” • TBH: An acronym for “to be honest.”• TBT: An acronym for “Throw Back Thursday,” usually following an old

image as a reference to the past.• TFTF: Twitter shorthand for "thanks for the follow."• TMB: Short for "Tweet me back."

• Share valuable content in your own voice• Do your best to craft your content tweets, @replies and

promotional tweets all with a seamless style that matches your personality and/or brand.

• Ideally, you want people to read your tweets and feel naturally compelled to click on your links and retweet you.

• You just want to add value and have no agenda or attachment to “making the sale,” yet you’re strategic and mindful about how you tweet. Then you’ll see a marked improvement in your retweet and click-through rates.

Verified Accounts• A verified Twitter account formally validates the identity of the person or company that

owns the account—the aim of the "verified" status is to prove that a real-world person or company is not being impersonated, through the placement of a small blue checkmark by the top-right corner of a user's page, or next to the username in the platform's Search function. Twitter is responsible for assigning the blue checkmark, and it is frequently applied to the accounts of notable people in politics, music, movies, business, fashion, government, sports, media, and journalism.

• The owners of verified accounts can also access additional features that are not available to standard Twitter-account holders. These features include the following:

• The ability to choose how their notifications and mentions are presented. Since verified accounts typically receive a lot of followers, account holders can filter these notices based on whether or not they are from verified accounts.

• The ability to view information about their followers and their involvement on Twitter.• The ability to receive direct messages from all followers or only selected followers.• In a breach of Twitter's rules, some users placed the verified checkmark in their background—Twitter confirmed that such

conduct is invalid. Following a design update of the Twitter platform, it is more difficult for users to impersonate a verified account because of the layout.[141]

• A limitation of the verified status is that if the account is hacked, the person or company can still be impersonated for a limited time, until control is regained over the account by the legitimate owners - as happened, for example, with Tesla Motors' Twitter account briefly in 2015.
