  Twice Told Tales bookstore was opened in 1992 as a new book, notion and toy store on Main 

Street  in Gloucester Courthouse, Virginia.   A primary  focus on new books has evolved  in  to a well 

rounded   retail sales venue offering new and used books, toys and games, cards, puppets, puzzles 

and stationary.   

 

 

   

  Its location on Main Street in the Courthouse precinct puts it front and center before 7200 cars 

a day average (http://www.virginiadot.org/info/resources/2010/AADT_036_Gloucester_2010.pdf ‐ 

page 7, line 7.)  With a loyal following and seasonal visitors a regular daily customer count of 10 to 50 

customers a day is normal.  Coupled with Internet sales an effective 50+ customers a day could be 

achieved.  An active Main Street association promotes Main Street as a shopping/dinning/service 

destination.

  Visitors entering the store are presented with a charming multi‐level shopping experience with 

merchandise organized by specific categories of books with toys, notions, card and stationary found 

somewhat randomly around the store.   

 

 

  The counter area offers customers several impulse items for sale...    

 

   

 

...and access to the front room which is now setup as the infants and toddlers area...   

   

 

 

...heading towards the middle of the store you will see we sell books by the pound... 

   

 

...and as you continue further back you will encounter our used book room (used books are mixed in 

all over the store.  This room is nothing but used books!)

...where young adult fiction, more toys and puzzles live. 

   

Across the main floor is the other mezzanine where classic literature, adult fiction and self help are 

located.  There are lots of comfy seats throughout.  Non‐fiction populates the main floor...
