Father Peter Mactutis / Padre Pedro Mactutis

Are you a pilgrim or a tourist?

This is a question from the book, “Resisting Happiness” by Matthew Kelly. He says that tourists

try to cram in as much as possible, racing from one place to another, stopping only long enough

to snap a few quick pictures (selfies), buy some useless trinket in the gift shop and race off to the

next place. Tourists get very upset when things don’t go according to plan and bump and push

their way past others when they get delayed.

Pilgrims, on the other hand, notice how God is working, even in the delays. The pilgrim takes

time to pray and enter into each place. The pilgrim notices people as individuals in the crowds,

especially if that person needs some attention.

Lord, teach me patience, kindness, and humility so that I can be a better pilgrim on this path you

have prepared for me.

Blessings,

Fr. Peter

Bendiciones,

Padre Pedro

Adult Formation and Discipleship

"Another portent appeared in heaven; behold, a great red dragon" (Rv 12: 3). These words from the first reading of the Mass make us think of the great struggle between good and evil, showing how, when man puts God aside, he cannot achieve happi-ness, but ends up destroying himself.

How many victims there have been throughout the last cen-tury of the second millennium! We remember the horrors of the First and Second World Wars and the other wars in so many parts of the world, the concentration and extermi-nation camps, the gulags, ethnic cleansings and persecu-tions, terrorism, kidnappings, drugs, the attacks on unborn life and the family.

The message of Fátima is a call to conversion, alerting hu-manity to have nothing to do with the "dragon" whose "tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven, and cast them to the earth" (Rv 12: 4). Man's final goal is heaven, his true home, where the heavenly Father awaits everyone with his merciful love.

God does not want anyone to be lost; that is why 2,000 years ago he sent his Son to earth, "to seek and to save the lost" (Lk 19: 10). And he saved us by his death on the cross. Let no one empty that Cross of its power! Jesus died and rose from the dead to be "the first-born among many brethren" (Rom 8: 29).

In her motherly concern, the Blessed Virgin came here to Fátima to ask men and women "to stop offending God, Our Lord, who is already very offended". It is a mother's sor-row that compels her to speak; the destiny of her children is at stake. For this reason she asks the little shep-herds: "Pray, pray much and make sacrifices for sinners; many souls go to hell because they have no one to pray and make sacrifices for them". - Homily of St. John Paul II for the beatification of Jacinta and Francisco Marto, May 13, 2000

Youth Ministry Updates

The Fatima Corner

Quote of the Week

On October 13th, 1917, the final apparition of Our Lady to the three children at Fatima occurred. It was during this apparition that the great sign Our Lady had promised was seen by all present. This sign has come to be known as “The Miracle of the

Sun”. Once Our Lady had finished her conversation with Lucia, the girl pointed at the sky and shouted “Look at the sun!” It had been raining all morning, and during the appa-rition, but suddenly the clouds parted, and all present (70,000, by some estimations) saw the sun as a great silver disk, with such an intensity that none had ever seen it so bright– and yet it was not blinding. Then the sun began to “dance” about the sky– it spun around, would stop, and then spin again, and the light shone on the people gathered, mov-ing as the sun moved. Finally, the sun seemed to come to-wards the earth and many were greatly afraid. But then it went back to its original place in the sky, and shone with its customary brightness. Many people had been wet from the rain– but after the 10 minutes of the sun’s dancing, they were completely dry. The miracle was seen as far as 25 miles away, and was even reported in the secular press. For updates and information about youth events,
