***Program Spotlight*** The Bible and the Virgin Mary is a dynamic twelve-part video series that beautifully explains the Catholic truths about Our Lady, showing how she has been a part of God’s plan to bring salvation to the world since the beginning of time. In addition to explanation of dogmas, answers to common objections, and demonstration of Mary’s presence in the Old and New Testaments, this study discusses Church-approved Marian apparitions that play an important role in Catholic Tradition. It’s sure to help Catholics and non-Catholics alike grow in an understanding and appreciation of the Mother of God.

Genuflec on

We are now blessed to have the Blessed Sacrament reserved in the tabernacle in the sanctuary of the Cathedral. To me this is what sets up apart from the worship places of our Protestant brothers and sisters. There is a Holy presence in our church. A red vigil candle signals the holy presence of Jesus in the tabernacle. If our knees allow us we should genuflect on one knee before entering and upon leaving the pew. If your knees are bad you may make a simple bow in the direc on of the tabernacle. These gestures express our reverent recogni on of Jesus' presence in the Blessed Sacrament.

Proper Etiquette for Mass

I will be running a series of short articles on the proper etiquette for Mass over the next several weeks. When I was a child I received this training from the good nuns who taught at my Catholic School. Today a small percentage of Catholic children are getting good instruction on some of the basics. This will be a good refresher for adults as well. Fr. Bill.

Padre Bill.

Saturday, September 14th

7:00 PM at IHM Finley Hall

A unique relationship develops between an eccentric, reclusive novelist and a young, amazingly gifted scholar-athlete. After the novelist discovers that the young athlete is also an excellent writer and secretly takes him on as his protégé, they develop an unlikely friendship. As they learn more about each other, they learn more about themselves, and ultimately, with the help of his new mentor, the basketball star must choose the right path.

MOVIE NIGHT with Fr. Bill

SAINTAUGUSTINE(354-430)PatronsaintofWesternPhilosophyandTheologyFeastday-August28Saint Augus ne was born in Tagaste in Africa in 354. He

was unse led and restlessly searched for the truth un l he was converted to the faith in Milan and bap zed by St, Ambrose in 386. Returning to his homeland, he embraced an asce c life and subsequently was elected bishop of Hippo. For thirty-four years he guided his

flock, instruc ng it with sermons and many wri ngs. He fought bravely against the errors of his me and explained the faith carefully and cogently through his wri ngs. He died in 430.

There are two very intriguing stories that involve Saint Augus ne. According to a medieval legend: St. Augus ne encountered a child while walking along the seashore contempla ng and trying to understand the mystery of the Trinity. The child was trying to transfer the water of the sea to a hole using a shell and the saint told him it was impossible. The child responded, “No more impossible than what you are trying to do – comprehend the immensity of the Holy Trinity with your small intelligence.”

Saint Monica, the mother of St, Augus ne, prayed for him most of his life that he would return to the faith. He resisted for seventeen years un l he heard the preaching of Bishop Ambrose, whereupon he converted and was bap zed. She died one year a er his bap sm.

A note from Fr. Bill

As many of you know my mother passed away a few weeks ago. So many of you have sent me cards of condolences and are having Masses offered for my mother. Thank you - this means so much for me.

My mother was a woman of deep faith. Jesus was truly the center of her life. She was the mother of eight children so she knew the meaning of sacrificial love. May she now rest in eternal fruits her labor.
