Train enthusiasts can enjoy a ride through the Lehigh River Gorge May 17 from White Haven to Jim Thorpe, PA. The trip, a fundraiser for White Haven’s Am-bulance Co., leaves at 10:30 a.m. from its new community library - a recently restored railroad engine house. The ride south along the Lehigh River goes through the Rockport Tunnel and

then is riverside until the train crosses into Jim Thorpe for arrival at its historic business district at around noon. There, the passengers will enjoy 4 hours of shopping and exploring before return-ing to White Haven just after 5 p.m. White Hav-en’s 2014 Train Ride will use the Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad’s vintage train cars, and will be pulled by Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway’s diesel locomo-tives. New this year are open-air train cars, but seats on these special cars are limited. Tickets for the open-air cars are $40, and for the regular coach-es are $30. Last year’s trip sold out. Tickets are available from the White Haven Ambulance, 500 Towanda Street, White

SUN Area Dairy Promo-tion team: Anyone who lives in Snyder, Union, Northumberland, and Montour counties that is 8-23 years old and would like to join the SUN Area Dairy Prin-cess Promotion team as a Miss, Maid, Ambas-sador, Alternate princess or Dairy princess please contact Ashley Wetzel at (570) 539-8625. You either have to own your own dairy animals, be dairy farmers daughter or son, related to a dairy farmer, grandparents or parents worked on a dairy farm, you work on a dairy farm, or just have an in-

terest in dairy. The Prin-cess is required to travel to all the counties at dif-ferent events and pro-mote the dairy industry during her year. They are also required to present a present a skit and speech at the SUN Area and State Dairy Princess Pag-eant and attend a three day seminar from July 9-11 at Elizabethtown College. The alternate princess is required to present a skit and speech at the SUN Area Dairy Princess Pageant and ei-ther attend seminar with the princess or mini semi-nar with the dairy misses, maids, and ambassadors. Dairy Misses, Maids, Ambassadors, and Alter-nate Princess are to help the Princess at different events and cover for her when she is not available. Boys can also join but

can only be ambassadors. Goat people can also join. SUN Area Ag Dairy Days will be taking place on May 16-18 at the Mid-dlecreek Valley Antique Show along Old Colo-ney Road in Selinsgrove right beside the Snyder County Prison. There will be kids games Friday starting at 4 and Satur-day & Sunday from 10-3. Friday night will be a celebrity-milking con-test at 6:30pm. Saturday at 7pm is the SUN Area Dairy Princess Pageant and Sunday at 1pm is free ice cream sundae. Park-ing and administration is free.

Net-suke were developed as toggles in the 17th centu-ry to hold lacquer boxes in the sashes of kimonos. Evolved from simple tools, netsuke developed into intricate works in-dicative of fashion, class and culture. Undertow, the annual senior stu-dent art exhibition, will be held April 8 to 27 in the Samek Art Gallery. Presented in partner-

ship with the Art and Art History Department, this exhibition show-cases culminating work by graduating senior Art majors and Art graduate assistants. An opening panel discussion will be held April 11 at 5 p.m. in the Gallery Theatre of the Elaine Langone Center.
