The university placement tutor’s roleo keep in touch with the trainee (trainee to contact you initially);o three lesson observations;o two of these to be with the school mentor;o QA checklist with the mentor;o arrange for additional visits to those causing concern;o agree Review Point and final grades with the mentor;o attend the Partnership Meeting;o complete the relevant TDP sections at the end of the placement.

Trainees’ teaching commitmentTypically:•Weeks 1 & 2: 70 – 75% teaching load•Weeks 3 onwards: 70 – 75%Further guidance in the handbooks.
Observations
o one per week (mostly by school);o three by placement tutors; o two of these are joint with mentors;o mentors should take the lead; o first joint observation – around Review Point A (agree Review Point
grades & complete the QA checklist);o middle observation around Review Point B;o second joint observation – in the final week (agree final grades;
discuss outcomes with trainee).

Weekly meeting and review
• Mentor & trainee agree when and where at start.• Should be private, uninterrupted & an appropriate length of time.• Trainee to fill in before the meeting.• Basis for discussion with the mentor so targets & ways forward can be
agreed.• Trainee should draft a copy of the TDP and bring to the meeting to be
discussed with and confirmed by the mentor.
Brief review of spring placement oThink about one thing that went well in relation to the spring
placement.oThink about one thing that didn’t work as well / go as well as it could
have.
