PREZ RELEASE

PREZ RELEASEThe Winter Solstice has passedand 2016 is just around thecorner so we can start gettingexcited about Triumphsagain…..? Well, the fall was verymild extending our driving seasonand Winter so far is pretty wimpybut this is Minnesota so myoptimism has some reservations. But 2016 is set to be a great yearfor Triumphs so why not getexcited!

I am really looking forward to the2016 Rendezvous in KenoraOntario Canada as this Lake ofthe Woods area is beautiful and itsounds like we should have agood number of cars heading upthere. And later in the year theannual VTR will be in PottsboroTexas, which really is not that farof a drive.

So let’s start thinking about someTech sessions to get an early starton getting our Triumphs in shapefor next year. Roger Kramer isour Tech session coordinator andhe did a great job last yearhelping put together some veryinteresting Tech sessions. I myselfhave been plugging away on myTR4 project but it remains to beseen if I will head very far fromhome with it. Have to build upthat confident feeling of reliabilitybefore I venture too far.

A reminder to everyone that weare now meeting at the RosevilleVFW located at 1145 WoodhillDr. This site is centrally locatedand I see that the old OfficersClub along Hwy 5 is now

boarded up so it looks like it isdone for good.

Take Care and remember thatour Winter Party is located atJoseph’s Grill just across theriver from downtown St. Paulon January 31st. No advancedreservations required so hope tosee you there.

Recording Secretary Andy Lindbergnotified the club that a meeting was held lastmonth. Members approved his report.

VTR REPORT JANUARY 2016

Wow! Gayle and I left Rochesterin the midst of the biggest snowstorm of the season. When thesnow began it came with a rushand ramped up immediately.Getting the 12 miles to the airportwas treacherous and I thought forsure our plane would never get in,yet alone take off in that blizzard. After de-icing, that plane crewgot us out before they closed theairport. That Delta crew not onlygot us out of a blizzard but flew ussafely into fog and rain of Atlanta.

A couple of our members hadsome problems with their VTRsubscriptions and our retiringVTR membership secretary isretiring. Before doing so I knowhe made a couple of our Mn Trmembers very happy by correct-ing those problems. VTR islooking for a membership secre-tary and if you happen to belooking for a job, that position is

open at VTR. One certainly maywork out of his home office.

Thanks to Terry Mackey for avery nice article on theRondezvous Rallye Superieur thispast June 6-11, 2015. If youmissed this piece in theIntermarque you certainly wouldhave seen Terry’s article andphotos in the latest issue of “TheVintage Triumph” if you were amember. With the New Yearunfolding maybe now is the timeto join “The Vintage TriumphRegister”. For $35 you willreceive 6 beautiful issues of themagazine. With that you getanother source for technicalconsultants, the annual conventionwhich brings hundreds together atvarious locations throughout thecountry. Also available is regaliaand special rates on insurance.VTR is our source for insurancefor all events we host. Check itout at www.vtr.org.

Remember 2016 will find us allback in Texas as the Red River Trclub will be our host once againfrom Oct 3-7, 2016. It will beheld in North Texas at theTanglewood Resort on LakeTexoma in Pottsboro, Texas.Cost will be $135 for 1 car, 1driver and 1 non driver. Miscellaneous comments on VTR 2015

I have a new favorite highway. Wisconsin 33 east out of Lacrosse. It’s a per-fect road for a TR3. Some of the corners might be a little tight without rack-and-pinion. But it’s not an autocross course either. The potholes at the apex ofsome of the corners brought out the rear end right smartly.

I’m amazed at how few Triumph drivers are ashamed at having trailered theircars to the meet. VTR 2016 will have to rent an adjoining county to park allthose covered trailers and SUV tow vehicles. Remember when it was a badgeof honor to drive your TR?

Best driving event (also the only one I attended) was the ice cream tour. Gus’sDrive In had TRs triple parked but still managed to serve shakes and dogswith mind-boggling speed.

The Illinois Sports Owners Association hosts the VTR national every tenyears. It’s an understatement to say they have their act together. I’ve neverseen a better organized event. All of the events were conveniently locatednear the host hotel. No twenty-mile drives to receptions or dinners. If only theycould have done something about the maze inside the Abbey Resort.

Every Wisconsin gas station where I stopped had non-oxy gas. Premium onlybut congrats Wisconsin.

Exotics were there. Albeit by the handful rather than the bucketful. TS1LO wasmy favorite. The interpretation of that moniker is Triumph Sports, numero uno,left-hand drive, with overdrive. How can you not be impressed with a geraniuminterior? I was also gratified that its owner brought it to the convention ratherthan keeping it locked up somewhere only he and a few rich buddies couldadmire it. Likewise for the elegant Italia, Swallow Doretti, and Gloria SouthernCross that were also present.

My name is Kristy DuBois and Ilive in Fairmont, MN. Myhusband Ron was the Triumphenthusiast, I, have a love-haterelationship with them. Love toride and drive them but hate theconstant and costly mainte-nance. The reason for this e-mailis Ron passed away in May andnow I am in the process of goingthrough his personal effects. Ihave a 1979/1980 TR-7 thatneeds a home but I have no ideathe value of this car. Ron oncesaid if he could get it started hewould sell it for $3500.00 but hecould never get the dual carbure-tors to do what they needed todo, the car turned over but wouldnever stay started. The fuel linealso has a leak, found out thehard way - leaked about a gallonof fuel on the garage floor May -Aug. The little car was a dailydriver for 2 years in the cities,1999-2000 then only out andabout during the summer 2000-2009. I am not a car person soplease excuse the lack ofknowledge, LOL!

The body has 2 dings on the frontwheel wells and the interior isatrocious by my standards. Ithas a new convertible top and Ithink it has the original tools thatcame with it.

I was wondering if you could helpme with an estimate of what thecar is worth and any contactsthat may be interested in buyingit? I think it would be a greatproject car for the winter and itwould be ready for the road in thespring under some caring newowners hands.

I can send pics if you need themor if someone is close toFairmont, they can look at it as Iam home most days.
