EVERY CAR NEEDS A LITTLETLC ? HOW TO MAXIMIZE

    VEHICLE LIFE

(NewsUSA) - During the winter months, cold weather gives way tothe warm, fuzzy feelings broughton by the presence of that certainspecial someone. But its not justyour signicant other that deservesattention -- your hard-workingvehicle needs some extra TLC aswell. Tires Plus offers a few tips tokeep your vehicle running strong:

    * Listen to each other. Keep your engine properly tuned. A vehiclethat has a serious maintenanceproblem, such as a faulty oxygensensor, can decrease gas mileageby as much as 40 percent. A singlemisring spark plug can cut fueleconomy by up to 4 percent.

    * Keep your vehicle refreshed.Change the engine oil. Use therecommended grade of motor oilfor your vehicle, and change itaccording to your vehicle ownersmanual, which usually says everythree months or 3,000 miles.Prolonged driving without an oilchange may cause severe enginedamage. Regularly check your vehicles uid levels, includingtransmission, power steering, windshield washer and coolant.

    * Keep in constant contact.Maintain your tires. Check inationpressure monthly, and make sure

your tires are properly balanced.Dont forget to rotate your tiresaccording to the maintenanceschedule and have the alignmentchecked at least once a year.

    * Be considerate. Use gooddriving habits. Acceleratingquickly and stopping abruptly canprematurely wear your vehiclesengine, transmission, tires andbrakes. Aggressive driving alsowastes gas.

    * Protect it from the elements.Keep the exterior washed andwaxed to preserve the paint nishand protect your vehicle from theenvironment. Salt, water, sandand even de-icing chemicals onthe road can cause rust or other damage to a vehicle.
