was to have an outlet for peopleswriting, said event sponsor BrianPacholka. The contest is open toeveryone. Stories must be between1,500 and 2,500 words and mustbe the original, fictional work of theauthor.Theres not a lot of outlets (in thecommunity) for peoples writing, hesaid.The top six to 10 authors will beinvited to read their stories atPeppers Cafe and Deli on Feb. 7.I like the idea of the tall tale,Pacholka said. Just try to keep itrelatively short.Stories must include MecostaCounty in some way, Pacholkasaid, whether it is set in MecostaCounty or it has a character whois from Mecosta County or any tieto the county. across much of the United Statesmore than 10 percent in two years,according to a recent surveyby the American Water Works

Associationbuilding a water-efficient home is a wise investmentin the future.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys (EPAs) WaterSenseprogram makes it easy to findbuilders who can construct a newhome that saves water, energy andmoney. More than 30 builders havepartnered with EPA to build more

water-efficient homes, and thatnumber is growing every day.

Just as it does for toilets, faucets,showerheads and other plumbingproducts, WaterSense offers alabel for water-efficient new homes,designed to use at least 20 percentless water than typical new homes,both inside and out.

In fall 2010, builder KB Homecompleted the first residencescertified to earn a label under theWaterSense new homes program.These homes, located nearSacramento in Roseville, California,will save 10,000 gallons of waterper year and more than $100 peryear on utility bills.

Owning a WaterSense-labeledhouse means you can enjoy allthe comforts of home while usingfewer natural resources and savingmoney, said Veronica Blette, chiefof EPAs WaterSense branch.
