STRAIGHT UP FASHION FOR REAL PEOPLE

JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2012

CONTENTS2012 is here and it's time to seize the day. Don't

even think about finishing that eggnog, 2011 is over and you've got a new year to start.

January is about transition from old to new and the idea of embarking on new journeys and surprising yourself. To help you prep for warmer times ahead (far far ahead, but ahead nonetheless), we take a look at light weight knits we can't live without and it's all in the details as we take a closer look at some of the subtle (and not so subtle) details being embraced in men's wear.

We know all about New Year's resolutions and we wouldn't want you to sacrifice style while sticking to your post holiday budget. Our cover pops with colour and we've got a whole load of bright accessories to help you make a big impact without breaking the budget.

Go forth, in fashion,

SPRING BLINGThis January's jewels are all about candy coated colour mixed with organic textures and details.

We know it's still quite chilly out there and just because the holidays are over and we're onto a new year doesn't mean we're all ready to start sporting tanks and flip flops. Accessories are always a great place to start because you can wear them NOW. So lift your spirits this January with a major injection of colour.

Easily mistaken for

Heathered fabric, Space Dye has a similar look but

different process which allows for more variation and colours. The process involves dying different

lengths of yarns different colours, which will produce a random pattern when knit into fabric. The technique

means every piece is one of a kind and every inch of fabric

is unique.

Half vest half sweater, yet

not a sweater vest, the Inverted Trapezoid is

essentially an upside down triangle with

the bottom point cut off. Typically wide and loose at

the shoulders while snug at the waist, often ending in a wide band. The sleeves are made

simply by extending the shoulder seam and the armholes are

usually quite long, so you should probably wear a camisole underneath this guy.

Flattering and easy to wear,

it's no wonder the Dolman sleeve is everywhere right now. This sleeve has a sophisticated, draped look caused by a very large armhole extending to a very narrow opening at the end. Styles range from a shallow drop to very deep and baggy at the arm hole. The name Dolman comes from a style of Turkish robe and the Dolman sleeve has surfaced a few times since its first height in popularity in the 1940s.

A fine machine

knit technique that produces accordion style zig

zag stripes and is often combined with open-knit details. This light-

wearing knit is often used in looser fitting styles and drapes really well. In the Bat-Wing style shown here, it could be worn with either a camisole or a long sleeve top underneath. Pattern can

be monochromatic, like this one, or very bright and

multi-coloured.

GUYSGEAR

Though menswear tends to be a bit more laid back than ladies fashions, we've seen some cool new detail cropping up that we just couldn't keep to ourselves. Incorporate any of these into your wardrobe to set yourself apart without it becoming excessive.

SIMPLE STITCHESA few extra stitches in a thicker thread add a

little bit of interest to any woven shirt.

METAL INFLUENCE

Extra rivets and metallic details are popping up everywhere and add some edge without being dramatic or heavy.

2PLY POCKETSDouble layer pockets add some depth to your

look regardless of whether the extra pockets are functional or simply fashionably fake.

RAW EDGEEverything from leather details on back pockets

to unfinished edges on woven shirts, raw edges on a classic piece show you can put yourself together but you're a little rough around the edges.
