STRAIGHT UP FASHION FOR REAL PEOPLE
FEBRUARY 2012
CONTENTSFebruary already, seems like just a few days
ago it was 2011! Where did the time go? We have packed our February issue with fantasy and romance. Flip to the next page to see our top three hot new dates, and of course we wouldn't leave you without something to wear. Each awesome date is paired up with our stylish suggestions to keep you cool and comfortable under pressure (or in tree pose...).
Our guest hair stylist Jillian from Vq Salon shows us how to throw together a swoon worthy hairstyle in minutes. To go with this lovely hairstyle we've got a whole page packed full of date worthy tops and accessories.
And for all those free spirits who might be spending Tuesday the 14th in, we present Day Dream on page 6 . It's kind of Boho Butterfly meets The Dark Crystal. Enjoy!
Go forth, in fashion,

Flash Back• 1743: First recorded
use of roller skates.
• 1800's: The Dutch used wooden wheels on their ice skates so they could continue skating in the summer.
• 1963: The original Quad Skate is first designed in New York City.
DATE DILEMMA SOLVEDTHREE HOT NEW DATES AND WHAT YOU SHOULD WEAR
ROLLER SKATING
THANKS TO A RESURGANCE IN 70'S FASHION AND A REVIVAL OF ROLLER DERBY,
IS OUR #1 HOT NEW DATE.
DUDELY DUDSFun, free spirited
and easy-going, the rollerskating date is all about not taking yourself too seriously. Falling down is fine, as long as you get back up and have a good laugh.
Try a retro inspired tee shirt and a pair of lighter washed denim in a straight leg or relaxed fit. Too baggy and you may end up tripping on your own outfit but too snug and you might have trouble keeping up.

Zen and LoveThe world of Zen is filled with guidance and practice that permits us to open our hearts, clear our minds, become present, be who we are and be able to discover the wonderful secret of falling in love with all of life. - Dr. Brenda Shoshanna, selfgrowth.com

STYLISH STRETCHING
Offset black yoga pants and a warm-up wrap with pops of whimsical colours like deep purple and robin's egg in a tank top or contrast waistband.
Avoid wearing any accessories during the class but show off your free spirited style with printed tops and feather earrings while grabbing a smoothie or frozen yogurt after the session.
Cautionary StyleEnsure a tumble off the horse remains something you'll laugh at over hot chocolate by keeping accessories simple and petite and avoid wearing necklaces and rings. Elasticized bracelets are great as well because they will slide off if caught on something. No one wants to end a great date in the emergency room.

HORSE? THAT'S WHY
IS OUR #3 HOT NEW DATE.

HOLD THE REIGNS
We know this one looks a little dark, but we're goin' somewhere. If this is your first (or fourth) time on a horse, stick to black and dark washes incase you fall off.
Also, make sure to wear a jean with lots of stretch in a slim leg so you can tuck it into your boots (yes, wear boots!). A hoody and light weight jacket with loads of pockets will allow you to leave your purse in the trunk and enjoy the ride.

HAIRAPY:
The Romantic Side TwistValentine's day is on a Tuesday. If you're like us and you have a date and a day job, pre-dinner primping
may not be in the cards. Don't fret. Our guest hairstylist, Jillian Clapham from Vq Salon in Winnipeg, is gonna walk us through a super pretty romantic side twist so easy you could do it in your car!
"I recommend starting this style with some texture. If you don't have naturally curly or wavy hair, try putting your hair in a braid in the morning and leaving it for the day. You'll have just enough wave at the end of the day to pull off the look."
1. Start with wavy hair parted slightly off centre. If your hair is very sleek
and smooth, use a texturizing product to help it hold together.
2. Twist hair from the left over to the right twisting it into itself taking
hair from underneath. Secure with a pin just behind your ear.
3. Keeping your bangs forward, twist the hair on the right side back in
the same fashion and secure in the same spot with a pin.
4. Softly pull bangs back and secure with another pin. Do not tuck behind
your ear. Use aerosol hairspray to liven up the curls and you're done!
