Teacher of the Month

Ms. Megan Zeman was nominated for the December Teacher of the Month. Ms. Zeman has been working at TCHS for one semester. When asked about her time at TCHS, she replied with, “My first semester has been busy (with English, Jour-

nalism, NHS, Musical, and the upcoming Washington trip), but it's also been very affirming. I like coming to school every day! I'm very lucky.” An anonymous stu-

dent said, “She is kind and considerate of all the students.” Another student commented, “She’s hard working, kind, and awesome!” Ms. Zeman also said, “I

am surprised by my students every single day. Whether they're blowing me away with a poetry analysis, or saying something hilarious, my students are defi-nitely the most interesting part of my day.” We want to thank Ms. Zeman for all

her hard work during the first semester of her career at TCHS.

Winter Fashion By Ashlyn Schonthaler

Winter is finally here! That means that it gets freezing and snow starts to fall. You need to stay comfortable and warm when you’re out in freezing temperatures. Win-ter fashion is the best be-cause you can be comfy and not dressed up and no one will judge you. Winter cloth-ing comes out around late October and early Novem-ber, and then lasts for the rest of the year. Heavy coats and jeans are worn a lot dur-ing this time. Some people love wearing mittens, ear muffs, scarves, and other accessories with their winter outfits. Boots and uggs are also worn around this time of the year. Colors to wear around this time are red, white, dark green, grey, dark blue, and black. Fabrics to wear around this season is wool, cotton, and velvet. Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t be fashionable! Make sure you stay warm this winter sea-son!

Garrett Roe, CEO of Heads Up Decoy By Ben Escalante

Garrett Roe graduated from Trego Community High School in 1989, and decided to open up a business. Garrett is now the CEO and Founder of "Heads Up Decoy". Heads Up Decoy was founded in 2008. Roe wanted to create a bow hunting decoy that was light and easy to use, but certainly not bulky. This was the first decoy company to design and promote a partial body big game decoy! When asked about how it felt to open a compa-ny coming from a small town, Roe answered, “It feels like a great accomplishment; it’s about hard work and being humble!” Also, when asked how Heads Up Decoy was going, Roe replied, “It’s going great, and it takes a lot of hard work and effort.”

When asked what advice he would give TCHS students who want to start a business, or who are going into the workforce, he replied, “GO FOR IT! Start early; don’t worry about the process, just fo-cus on success." Congrats on your company's success, Garrett! Con-tinue to strive for excellence, and know that your alma mater sup-ports you. Moon Phases

December 12 is the night the Full Cold Moon rises. Native Americans gave this moon its name because it’s near the Winter Solstice. It’s also when the days and nights become dark and long.

Meteor Showers

December 13-14 is the night of one of the meteor showers of this month. Geminid, the name of this shower, lasts all night and is best seen in the North East. The number of meteors per hour is 75. The second shower, named Ursid, is December 22. It will be best seen in the North and will happen around predawn. There will be about 5 meteors per hour that night.

Retrogrades

Retrogrades are when other planets seem to be moving backward across the sky. As said in the last newspaper, Uranus is in retrograde. It will last until approximately January 10, 2020. When Uranus is in retrograde, inner freedom and individual change is the focus. Retrogrades are a great time for reflect-ing and personal reassessment.

Top Five Christmas movies By Gracie Hickson

5.National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation This movie aired in 1989 and follows Clark Griswold and his family as they go through the Christmas festivities. This mov-ie is one of my go to Christmas movies because it perfectly portrays how chaotic families can be during Christmas and also shows just how crazy this season can truly make a per-son. If you're looking for a good laugh this Christmas I sug-gest you watch “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”

4. The Mistle-Tones “The Mistle-Tones” is an ABC Family holiday movie that is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit. This movie follows a group of office misfits who create an acapella group to com-pete in a contest to sing at the Annual Christmas Eve Celebra-tion. Even though “The Mistle- Tones” is one of your predict-able television Christmas Movies, it is one of my favorites be-cause it incorporates romance, family, friendship and music into a comforting Christmas movie that all ages can enjoy.

3. The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause All three Santa Clause movies starring Tim Allen are fun fam-ily classics to watch during the Christmas season, but my fa-vorite of the three has to be “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.” In this sequel to the Santa Clause movies, Scot Cal-vin (Santa) invites his in laws and other family members to the North Pole for the holiday; however, a mischievous plan by Jack Frost creates chaos for the whole family. This movie is one of my all time favorites because it does a fantastic job of bringing the North Pole to life and never fails at putting me in the Christmas spirit.

2. ELF

If you want a movie that will make you laugh, put you in the Christmas spirit, and touch your heart, “ELF” is the perfect movie for you. This movie follows a man who was raised as an Elf at the North Pole but travels to New York City to meet his real father. I watch this movie at least four times during the Christmas season because it is probably the funniest Christ-mas movie I’ve ever seen.

1.The Grinch (Jim Carrey version) The Grinch is my all time favorite Christmas movie and al-ways makes me smile. The Jim Carrey version is hats down my favorite rendition of the classic novel by Dr. Suess. Not only is the Grinch character extremely relatable, but the ani-mation and makeup in this classic movie makes it my top pick to watch during the Christmas season.

Coffee Corner

By Victoria Hober

Starbucks’ Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino is without a doubt the drink of the season! There are multiple delectable flavors blended to chocolate-pepperminty perfection. Frap-puccino Roast coffee, mocha sauce, and peppermint-flavored syrup are blended with milk and ice and topped with whipped cream and dark chocolate curls. You can, of course, change the type of milk you use, but depending on which you choose more calories are added. The whipped cream and dark choc-olate curls are optional, but why wouldn't you want them? A Tall is 330 calories, a Grande is 430 calories, and a Venti is 560 calories. The price ranges from $4.45- $5.45. I found this drink at my local Starbucks in Hays, Kansas. If you want something that is completely delicious and makes you feel Christmassy, buy this drink!
