Decrease the risk for having a heart attack, or developing cancers.

Quitting can be difficult, nicotine addiction can be treated.

Nicotine Replacement Nicotine replacement - a method of battling addiction in which tobacco users gradually reduce their nicotine consumption.

In this treatment tobacco users continue to put nicotine into their bodies.

Small amounts to help with their withdrawal symptoms.

Eventually people find that they need less and less.

Common application is nicotine patches or gum

Medications Prescribed by a Doctor Some medications prescribed by a doctor help smokers quit by stimulating dopamine.

Dopamine is a chemical in the brain that leads people to experience the same type of effects caused by nicotine use.

Self- Management Identifying situations that trigger the desire for tobacco use and developing techniques to resist temptation.

Stimulus Control - involves trying to avoid tempting situations and managing feelings that lead to nicotine use.

Response Substitution - a technique in which people train themselves to respond to stress with healthy methods of coping and relaxation, rather that smoking.

Smoking cost society an estimated 289 billion a year in healthcare cost.

Government issues out State and federal laws that regulate the sale, use, cost, and advertisement of tobacco products.

Prevention Banning the Sale of Tobacco Products - The sale of tobacco is prohibited to anyone younger than 18, also in 2010 banned the sale of candy and fruit flavored cigarettes.

Banning Smoking in Public Places - Can't smoke in public places.

Increasing Taxes on Cigarettes - Increased price and taxes. This may prevent people from even starting to smoke.

Requiring Warning Labels packaging - increase warning labels on packages.
