families, it's best to think

about things that will make

your lodging easier and

more pleasant. Things like

Select a location near a major airport so

Exotic locations may be nice but are not practical for a

wide range of budgets, ages and interests. Choose an area

Theme parks, like Disneyland, can be a wonderful location

I recently had the

opportunity to experience

one of my bucket list

destinations, Croatia, at

the end of a week-long

tour of the Balkans. I was

able to explore Dubrovnik,

Croatia, which is an

amazing place located right on the beautiful

blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. I enjoyed

learning the history of the area, walking the old

city walls, and heading out into the sparkling

waters by ferry over to nearby island, Lokrum,

for a stroll and a coffee.

A highlight of my visit was eating a delicious

dinner at a local restaurant within old town and

enjoying magnificent views of the water below.

When I go back to Croatia one day, I will take a

sailing trip or explore one of the many national

parks of the country and delve further into the

heart of Croatia.

European Travel

You don’t want to worry about personal security when

you’re traveling, but it’s hard to avoid. Few things

ruin a trip quite like having your money and ID lost or

stolen. But how do you avoid letting security concerns

overwhelm your enjoyment of your trip? Here’s some

advice from years of travel experience.

1 If the loss of an item would ruin your trip (like your

passport or credit card) it should be kept in a

security wallet. The two most popular styles are the neck

wallet and the money belt, both worn under your clothes

and only accessed when you’re in a secure location. I

recommend keeping a small amount of money ($50) in

your handbag or pocket for minor expenses throughout

the day (like gelato) but large sums or cards stay

undercover in this security wallet.

2 Invest in a cross body bag. Again – your passport,

credit card and the bulk of your cash should stay

in your security wallet, but that still leaves your phone/

camera, walking cash, guidebook and sunglasses in

your day bag, and you don’t want to lose those either.

The easiest bag to keep an eye on is a cross-body bag

carried in front of you.

3 Protect your data. I always recommend a security

wallet that protects your items with RFID blocking

fabric so you can’t be “electronically pick-pocketed.”

RFID payment technology was designed to add

convenience to everyday life, but it can also offer a way

for thieves to obtain your data via scanner without ever

reaching into your bag.

Features to look for in a security wallet:

• RFID blocking technology

• Moisture wicking, breathable fabric

• Soft, elastic waistband or adjustable neck strap

• At least one zippered pocket for organization

parade which featured the Headless Horseman making

his way down Main Street. There is something magical
