Vice President of Taiwan. I also presented a letter from Logan Mayor Pam Parker.

Return to Brisbane
Benefit of the Trip
This visit was a request from many of my Taiwanese friends and constituents across 2 cities.
In addition to representing my electorate, it provided an opportunity to promote
understanding and build strong relationships with business people who may or already do
contribute investment in local business that create jobs for Queenslanders. It is also a
country that sends many of their young people to Qld for their education which also
contributes a great deal to the Qld economy. Therefore I was able to promote mutual
economic and social development for both Stretton and Queensland.

Correspondence to be addressed to: The Clerk ofthe Parliament. Parliament House. Cnr Alice and George Sts, Brisbane QLD 4000 Allstralia
Dear Mr Laurie
Apologies for the late reauest for application for OSDTA for my upcoming trip
to Taiwan from Sept 26th to Oct sth. I have been held up waiting for the
translation of the itinerary for the World Taiwanese Chamber Commerce.
I have been invited by numerous Australian based associations and business
owners to attend their conferences and tour their facilities in various cities in
Taiwan.
Firstly the Australian Taiwan Chamber Commerce Oceania has a conference in
Taipei on 26th September followed by the World Taiwan Chamber Commerce
Conference on 28th to 30th September. This conference is extremely useful in
making business contacts that benefit my work in the Electorate. An electorate
that has 60% of residents or their parents coming from overseas. A highly
entrepreneurial electorate of 4,500 businesses with many people self
employed or looking to start a business. (5 nights)
Previo'us engagement with Taiwanese business owners from all over the world
has seen successful networking and introductions back in Stretton that has
seen leasing of stores in Stretton and new immigrants take up the offer of a
business and investment visa. Another important work is that of encouraging
Taiwanese parents to send their youth to study in Qld.
A large number of my constituents are Buddhist and I've been honoured to be
invited to the Buddha Light Association to attend their ceremony and
conference on October 4th and sth in Kaoshiung. (2 nights)
Prior to this event I have been invited to visit Calamvale College's sister school,
Kaoshiung Girls High for a tour of their school and other activities as I was able
to show the Principal our school and Parliament when she was in my
electorate to sign the MOU. (2 nights) A formal invitation is forthcoming.
Whilst in southern Taiwan I will call in on a large fishery owner that I met here
at a VIP dinner. (1 night)
Thank you for consideration of my application.
Kind Regards1
Freya Ostapovitch MP
