Breathtaking adventures and extreme value for money are the hallmarks of a ‘You Just Live Once’ trip. Our trips are aimed at 20-40 somethings who prefer a fun, independent, convenient and responsible way to travel. The structure for a great travel experience is in place, but plenty of free time means you can go off and make your own discoveries. What makes us different from other tour operators is that most of our trips are led by us personally. We could easily pay others to lead our trips but we do what we do because we love it. Driven by our dedication, passion and experience we strive to make each tour more exciting and interesting than the last. Whenever it is not possible for us to be on the trips, we only use local leaders. This is our core philosophy, and one that works perfectly. By employing a leader who is local to the area you are travelling through, you benefit from the wealth of his or her first hand knowledge. He knows the best restaurants to eat in, the best food to choose when you’re there and how to read the menu! He knows the best time to visit the sites, the best way to get from A to B, the best backstreets to explore, and most importantly how to communicate with everyone else in the country. Fully trained, licensed and fluent in English, your local leader will be the difference between great holiday experience and an exceptional one.

Whenever possible and practical, we stay in locally-owned centrally positioned, spotlessly clean and comfortable superior hotels unless different arrangements are specified in the brochure. This means that the prices are fantastic - always the best on the market - and you’re immersing yourself in the culture while supporting local businesses. Our itineraries are built by travellers for travellers. We don’t plan our routes and stops on the basis of how much profitable they are for us like many other companies do. We choose them for the value they offer you as a traveller. We take you to the places where we would want to go ourselves if we’re travelling to the destination for the first time.

This is why we have many repeat clients on our trips. After travelling with us they realise that it doesn’t make sense for them to take the trouble of planning trips themselves. We do the work for them while they have the peace of mind that they are not going to miss out on anything while probably saving money in the process!

MALTA – BUDAPEST – ORADEA – SĂVĂDISLA We will depart Malta at 12:00pm and arrive in Budapest’s Ferihegy International Airport at 14:10pm. There we will be met by our local representative and guide and we’ll head straight across the Hungarian-Romanian border towards Săvădisla where we’ll arrive in the evening. The drive will take around 7hrs and it’s the longest drive of the trip by far. We will be making various stops along the way but if you don’t fancy the trip we can try to arrange an optional internal flight from Budapest. We’ll enjoy dinner (included) at a traditional bistro which has become famous for its excellent service, home-made food and signature recipes and later check-in at our accommodation in the typical village of Săvădisla.

We will start exploring historic Transylvania, the most colorful region of the country. The many ethnic groups (Romanians, Hungarians, Germans, Gypsies, etc) that have coexisted side by side in this region for centuries and its diverse natural beauty have rendered Transylvania a unique destination both for those travelers who love culture and also those who seek a more active holiday in unspoilt natural surroundings.

After breakfast on the 2nd day, we will drive till we reach Huedin’s railway station. From here we will take a 20min journey by a slow train to a remote horse farm. Here, we will learn about the local farming traditions, gastronomy, religion and culture of the nomadic Hungarians that occupied the lands since ancient times. Then, we will have the possibility to explore the surrounding hills on horseback. Those who are not acquainted with horse riding would still be able to do this activity as they can have a local instructor to guide them and hold their horse by its bridle and reins. Those who decide not to ride may stay in the “camp” and exercise bow shooting while enjoying the beautiful countryside. An al-fresco picnic will be served for lunch and after some relaxing time to digest the food, we’ll hike down some 6 Km to Izvorul Crişului – another characteristic village of the Călata region. Here you will have free time to go round or do some shopping. Izvorul Crişului specializes in traditional rural artifacts such as embroideries, pottery, sheep skins etc. In the evening we will return to Săvădisla where we will enjoy a folkloric show presenting specific dances and music from the region before having dinner. All today’s meals are included. Accommodation will be in the same place as the previous night.

SĂVĂDISLA – TURDA – RIMETEA – TURDA – SĂVĂDISLA After breakfast we will start the day with an easy hike in the Turda Gorge - one of the most popular spots in the Apuseni Mountains. The gorges are of special interest because of their morphologic variety: caves, fossils, towers, and arcades formed by the river’s repeated attempts to penetrate the limestone mountain. The natural reserve was founded in 1938 and almost 1000 special plants live there. Also, the entrances of more than 60 caves can be seen on the walls. Everyone willing, the guide can opt for a difficult (and more difficult challenging) route back. After the hike we will visit one of the biggest salt-mines of Romania and Europe. Turda's salt deposit has been known and exploited since prehistoric times, but it was put into systematic operation during the Roman conquest in Dacia. The excellent state of preservation of mining and machinery used to transport salt, together with very professional conversion work have turned the mine into a tourist attraction and a treatment and relaxation center. From Turda we’ll drive a short distance to Rimetea, a unique village with specific architecture, traditional costumes, painted furniture and old traditions. This village has been given the Europa Nostra Award and is on the waiting list to be included among the World Heritage sites because of its location, architecture and richly adorned costumes. We will be hosted for an exquisite lunch (included) by a very nice Rimetean family. In the afternoon we’ll drive back to Săvădisla, change clothes and drive to Cluj Napoca for a free evening. Cluj is a vibrant city with many leisure and nightlife options. The guide will be on hand to give a quick tour around the city or to suggest a nice restaurant for the evening. Dinner today is not included. Return to Săvădisla will be by taxis so that everyone can stay as late as s/he wants. The taxi ride is around 10 minutes’ long and costs around €20 for 5 people. Accommodation will be in the same place as the previous night.

SĂVĂDISLA – RÂMEŢI – AIUD – SEBEŞ – GURA RÂULUI After breakfast we will drive southwest till we reach Râmeţi Canyon, where we will hike for around 2Km through a very narrow gorge with a stream flowing through. We will practically be in the water up to our hips for most of the time so an extra pair of sports shoes is recommended since at the stream bed there might be stones and slippery branches. The hike is not difficult but challenging enough to guarantee great fun. If you don’t feel comfortable doing the hike, you can opt out and spend some free time relaxing in the beautiful surroundings. From Râmeţi we’ll go to Aiud where we will enjoy a wine tasting session at a private wine cellar followed by lunch. In the afternoon we’ll visit Alba Iulia and have a guided walk along part of the 12 Km perimeter wall that surrounds the old fortified town. Later in the afternoon we will reach the town of Gura Râului which will be our base for tonight and tomorrow. Dinner today will be served at our cozy pension and the rest of the evening is free. Those who want can take a 10 minute taxi ride to Sibiu (average €10 for 5 people) where nightlife options are plentiful. Today, all meals are included.

GURA RAULUI – SIBIU – CISNADIOARA – GURA RAULUI

After breakfast, we will drive to Sibiu, Europe’s capital of culture in 2007. During the Habsburg rule, Sibiu was the administrative headquarters of Transylvania and the ecclesiastic center of the Transylvanian Saxons. Due to the town’s historical importance, it is nowadays a jewel among the other Saxon towns. We will do a sightseeing tour taking in the highlights such as the Small and Large Squares, the Brukenthal Museum, the Lies Bridge and Huet Square with its beautiful gothic Cathedral. Strolling on the medieval streets of this beautiful town is a real pleasure. Therefore, everyone will have ample free time to make his/her own discoveries. This would be a good spot for a quick lunch (optional) in one of the many eateries around town. We will leave Sibiu and reach Cisnădioara after lunchtime. We will visit the beautiful Romanesque church, perched on the top of a hill before enjoying a leisurely walk in the largest open air ethnographical museum of Romania, the Astra museum. In the evening we’ll be back in Sibiu and the evening is free. Sibiu has many restaurants and night spots so everyone can enjoy it at his/her own pace. Dinner today is not included. To make this possible we’ll return to Gura Râului using taxis to give everyone the flexibility to stay as long as s/he wants.

GURA RÂULUI – SIBIEL – SEBEŞ – HUNEDOARA – PĂULIŞ

We’ll start the day with a short stop in the small Romanian village of Sibiel to see one of the biggest collections of glass-painted icons. From there we’ll go to Sebeş, a town that hides a unique architectural treasure, the early Gothic church, with a splendid winged altar, sculpted by one of Veit Stoss’s sons. From Sibiel we’ll drive to Hunedoara but on the way we’ll stop at the village of Cristur for lunch for a hearty home made lunch. In Hunedoara we will visit one of the most beautiful and well-preserved renaissance castles of entire Romania, the former residence of the famous Hunyadi royal family. Later we will drive along the Mureş River valley until we reach Miniş, a famous and historical wine-growing region. Here we will enjoy a traditional dinner and a wine-tasting programme that will include at least 7 different wines (e.g. Cadarca, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Burgund, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Traminer). Tonight we will spend the night in a beautiful pension surrounded by grape fields in the village of Păuliş. All meals today are included.

PĂULIŞ – ARAD – SZEGED – BUDAPEST After breakfast, we will start making our way back towards Hungary. After crossing the Romanian-Hungarian border at Nădlac, we will stop in Ópusztaszer. Here we will visit the open-air historic park including the famous Rotunda, a large and monumental painting representing the entrance of the Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin. At around lunchtime we will stop in the village of Lajosmizse where we can enjoy typical Hungarian meal in a restaurant on a shepherd’s farm (optional). Assuming that we arrive on time, we would be able to enjoy a Hungarian Lippizaner horse show. This is also optional. We will arrive in Budapest later in the afternoon. After checking-in at our central hotel, everyone will be free to enjoy the city center. With options ranging from classical operas to clubbing on a moving river boat, Budapest’s rich nightlife surely has what it takes to make tonight a perfect ending to this amazing trip. Dinner today is not included.

BUDAPEST – MALTA Today we will checkout from our rooms after breakfast and set off on a sightseeing tour of Budapest. Hungary’s capital city possesses a rich and fascinating history as well as a vibrant cultural heritage. Recognizing the unique value of its traditions it has managed to maintain its magic and charm, and is rightly known as the Queen of the Danube. In our tour we will visit Castle Hill – the most scenic district of Buda, full of medieval splendour, baroque architecture and places of interest such as Mathias church, Fishermen’s Bastion and to top it all, a superb view over the city. We will also visit old Pest, Patrician’s Palace and Andrássy út – Budapest’s most iconic boulevard that stretches from the city centre to the famous Heroes Square.

We’ll go to Budapest International Airport at around noon for check-in to our flight which departs at 14:55 and is estimated to land in Malta at 17:05.

YouJustLiveOnce.com trips are excellent value for money because they are built by travellers for travellers. But, don’t just take

our word for it… see what other travellers have said about us and their experiences on our tours.

This trip was a really amazing one. I loved the culture of

Transylvania as well as its beautiful landscapes!! It was a

very well organised trip and value for money. It gives you

the opportunity to make new friendships with people who

love travelling and are open for adventure. Travelling with

YouJustLiveOnce is the recipe for the perfect holiday! –

Sarah Aquilina

“It was a huge leap of faith for me to entrust

YouJustLiveOnce.com with my long dreamed-about trip to

Peru. I had consulted foreign agencies before coming

across YouJustLiveOnce.com, but something struck me as

right about this agency, and the staff's enthusiasm for

exciting travel is infectious. I went with my gut feeling and

trusted them with all my holiday arrangements. They were

extremely patient and helpful with all my questions,

especially since I did this trip alone. All I can say is that my

instinct was 100% correct: the trip was one of the most

wonderful things I have done in my life, everything went

smoothly, and never once did I feel lost or was forgotten by

any local reps. The excursions and activities were one burst

of excitement after the other and the standard of the hotels

was just right for me (clean, not too many frills, but not

cheap hostel stuff either). My experience with

YouJustLiveOnce.com was perfect, and I can honestly

recommend YouJustLiveOnce.com to anyone who loves

seeing and exploring the world more closely and with

enthusiasm. As soon as I can afford another trip like this,

YouJustLiveOnce.com will be the one I call first!” - Adrian

Cardona

I really want to thank YouJustLiveOnce.com for making

this trip an unforgettable one. I managed to meet lots of

interesting people that were so friendly and willing to help.

“Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made

by the friends we choose.” I think this quote fits just right

for this trip we experienced together. – A. Giordmaina

Absolutely a trip which I will always remember for the

various activities done as well as the new friends I made.

Challenging activities were well balanced with relaxing

time enjoying the panoramic views of the Romanian

countryside. A trip which gives you a real insight of how

the local people live. Definitely worth every cent and

looking forward for the next trip. – Monica. Farrugia

YouJustLiveOnce is the best source for adventurous trips. I

wouldn't call them tours because that surely wouldn't do

them justice. – Robert Vella

Real travelling with a difference. Value for money; active

trips for those who like nature and culture, who like to meet

new interesting people...You just live once....so grab your

backpack and travel. - Claudio Bezzina

It was a very memorable experience travelling with

YouJustLiveOnce.com. The itineraries were excellent and

the tour guide showed us his experience and preparation in

travelling. The trekking and site seeing were impressive. If I

went alone, I'm sure that I had missed some magnificent

attractions that the tour guide planned for us. The hotels

chosen were also comfortable, central and the all the

amenities required. This was very value for money holiday

and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for an active

and enjoyable holiday. - Antonella Massa

A very well organized holiday with breathtaking views.

Worth every cent for it and we absolutely recommend

travellers to join. We had a very good guide and

comfortable and clean accommodation. We could not

manage to do everything we did in one week if we didn't

have a good and well prepared guide as we had. An
