This is a guide for a transmission oil cooler selection. There are both applications without any selection/recommendation (mandatory applications, only one oil cooler available) and application with strong recommendations. The recommendations give useful and important information about how to specify a truck depending on different conditions such as - application - environment - road conditions - topography 1 Temperature Limitations In order to give the driver information and if needed warning about the gearbox status, below guidelines have been set up as limitations/rules for how to display information in the instrument cluster.

WARNING CONDITION

Temperature (option) Regular and recurring yellow lamp should not occur.

Yellow lamp Lasting >300 min. regularly with temp. >1000 C.

Yellow lamp Lasting >10 min. regularly with temp. >1200 C.

Red lamp Lasting >1 min. with temp. >1400 C. Dramatically increased risk of seizing above this temp.

4 Recommendations Driving conditions in table1 below are of vital importance for the correct oil cooler choice. Evaluate the application concerned and add points for each condition. Table 1

The sum from table 1 inserted in table 2 gives the correct oil cooler choice. Example: Overdrive gearbox with engine 430 kW [1], GCW 50 tonnes[1]: SUM =2 ➨ TC-MWO.

5 Special applications In some cases were the truck is severly loaded such as mentioned below, extra care about oil cooler choice is needed. For such applications please follow separate recommendations for each application:

Heavy rear PTO usage (transmission PTO) > 75 kW 15 minutes or more, TC-MWO is required if the sum according to table 2 above still is max. 2.

PTO usage (transmission PTO) 1 hour or more, TC-MWO is reguired if the sum according to table 2 above still is max. 2.

Construction, mining operation etc, with max. power/low speed* >20 min must be considered as “Hilly” in table 1.
