Born for a Life of Faith

Faith in another person means having: •Trust•Assurance•Confidence

Faith is the keynote of our relationship with God. It means total dependence upon Him.

Page 4: Transformation class 02.05.2012

Faith pleases God“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” Hebrews 11:6

God has placed such a high priority on faith because faith presupposes total dependence on the Lord.

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” Heb.11:1.

The Basis for our Faith

Our faith in God is based on two important and unchanging realities:

•The nature of God

•The work of the Cross

Page 6: Transformation class 02.05.2012

The Nature of GodAbraham is given as the greatest example of faith at work (Romans 4:16-22; Hebrews 11:8-12).

He and his wife were beyond child-bearing age, yet God promised him a son. Even more, God promised that through that son Abraham would

become the “father of many nations.” In believing God for his son, Abraham’s faith was in three aspects of God’s nature:

– God’s promise (Romans 4:20).– God’s character (Hebrews 11:11).– God’s power (Romans 4:21).

Abraham’s faith was strong because he knew God’s nature:– God cannot change (James 1:17).– God cannot fail (Job 42:2).

The Work of the Cross

Christ has become the source of our faith in God. His death and resurrection provides the ground for our believing.

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” Hebrews 12:2.

The Process of Faith

Faith is the lifestyle of a believer. But faith is not faith unless there is an obstacle involved. This is what is called a “trial of faith” and it works in the following way:

– A word from God (Romans 10:17).– We obey that word (James 2:17).– The crisis of faith (1 Peter 1:6-7).– The outcome (James 1:2-4,12).

Page 9: Transformation class 02.05.2012

The Victory of Faith“These [trials of faith] have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold...may be proved genuine...” 1 Peter 1:6-7.

Even while we may be going through a trial of faith, with the answer not yet in sight, our faith itself is the victory which sustains us.

“…for everyone born of God has overcome the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith” 1 John 5:4.

Chapter Twelve Summary

Chapter 12 tells us that Satan was the primary force behind the persecution that was about to befall God's people.

We are told of his failed attempt to prevent the male Child from being born and assuming His rightful place of authority as ruler of the nations (1-6).

An effort to seize that authority by waging war in heaven is thwarted, resulting in the devil and his angels being cast to earth.

That prompts a loud voice in heaven to proclaim that salvation, strength, the kingdom of God and the power of His Christ has come.

Chapter Twelve SummaryBecause the accuser (i.e., the devil) has been cast down, those in heaven who overcame by the blood of Jesus and their testimony, and who did not love their lives to the death, could rejoice.

But woe is proclaimed to those on the earth, because now the devil has come down to them and he knows his time is short (7-12).

At first the dragon's efforts are directed toward the woman who gave birth to the child. However, she is given wings to fly to her place in the wilderness where she is nourished for a time, times, and half a time (1,260 days, cf. v.6).

Even the earth helped the woman, so enraging the dragon that he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, identified as those who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ (13-17).

Chapter Thirteen Objectives

•To notice two “beasts” Satan would use in making war against the saints

•To offer an explanation consistent with the context in which the Revelation was written as to the identity of the two beasts
