SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT In our Gospel we read that the Pharisees were trying
to trick Jesus in hopes that he would loose credibility
as a preacher and teacher. One of the Pharisees, who
was a scholar of the law, asked Jesus which of the
commandments in the law was the greatest. That was a
"hot button topic" among the rabbis of the day, since
there were 613 laws at the time. Jesus responded by
quoting the most significant prayer in Judaism. "You
shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with
all your soul, and with all your mind." Then Jesus went
one step further. He quoted another law. "You shall
love your neighbor as yourself." The scholar of the
law had no argument with Jesus.
The two commandments that Jesus quoted are not
identical, but are interrelated. We show our love of
God by loving what God loves. We cannot say we love
God but hate our neighbor. St. John, in one of his let-
ters, states it more bluntly: "If anyone says "I love
God" but hates his brother, he is a liar."
Let us not forget that loving God and loving our
neighbor is not a lofty goal to be admired. Loving God
and loving our neighbor is a way of life that we, as
disciples of Jesus, should strive to live by.

Nurses’ Note: More Volunteers are still needed for “Two by Two”, the Trans-
figuration Parish Faith in Action Team. Join your fellow parish-ioners on this team that provides non-medical support and friend-ship to someone caring for a family member with dementia/Alzheimer. All volunteers are offered training and continued sup-port. By belonging to this team you only give the time you can when you can because there are several of you to share the role of helping. To receive more information, contact Pat Hebert @ 692-2135.
Health tips: Walk and talk to help your body and improve your work per-formance. Steve Jobs, the late co-founder of Apple, was known for his walking meetings. And Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has adopted the same practice. New research backs up this smart idea: Walking leads to problem solving and creative thinking. In fact, creative thinking improves by an average of 60 percent both during walking and for a short time afterward. When you’re on the move and interacting socially with others — walking and talking — you’re better able to process information. If your job requires a lot of meetings, suggest trying at least some of them on foot. You may be surprised by just how productive a meeting-on-the-move can be. And one added benefit: Even a quick 15-minute walk-and-talk will get you about 2,500 steps closer to your goal of 10,000 steps a day. http://www.clevelandclinicwellness.com
