Teach your children well
From the principal Hi everyone. What a positive start to Term 1!
Kindergarten 2014
Congratulations to the Kindergarten class this year.
I have never known a Kindergarten class settle in
so quickly and so well. We are thrilled to have a
straight Kindergarten class which is small but big
enough for everyone to find a friend. Ms Liplyn,
ably assisted by Ms Mary Bailey, has made a
wonderful start with our youngest members and I
have been very impressed with how caring our
older students are with their young fellow students.
Demountable
Great news -we now officially qualify for a 5th
class and I have put a request in for a classroom to
be placed on the primary side of the road. This will
be subject to availability and is not a definite, but I
have fingers and toes crossed! I know that Mrs
Rowley loves the exercise backwards and forwards
but it will be lovely when they do not have to walk
so far each day.
Support and Extension
The needs of all students are considered at TCS
and the funding that we have received for
Socio-economic and Aboriginal Education is going
to be used to support students in the classrooms
and provide Multi-Lit, Corrective Reading and
Wambinya for students who need intervention in
Literacy. We are also offering Extension in Art,
Maths and Music, Concert Band, Rock Band,
Public speaking, Debating, Steer leading ………...
There are so many opportunities for students to
find out what they are interested in and what they
are good at, opportunities to excel. Quality
teaching in the classroom and a wide range of
quality extra-curricular activities makes for a great
school!
Finally ........
My belief is that if a child is not at school then they
cannot learn. I will continue to work with families
and support them in ensuring that all children attend
regularly and so take full advantage of all the
opportunities that a good education offers. It is the
best possible gift you can give your child. We cannot
do this unless we work as a team.
Remember :
Give your child a wonderful gift –
encourage them to attend school every
day. Set them up for life!
As always, my door is open. Do not hesitate to come
in and see me if you have a concern. No problem is
too hard to solve if we work together.
All the best
Anne Holden
What a great
school!

Wednesday Sport
Until the pool closes, secondary students will be participating in a range
of water sports at Trangie pool during Wednesday afternoon sport. Next
week (weather permitting) they are learning all about the fundamentals
and skills of water polo. A permission note has been given to students
which needs to be returned to the school office and the cost is $2.70 pool
entry unless a season ticket has been purchased previously. Students must
bring the necessary equipment to be involved: swimmers, towel and sun-
screen.
Cattle Team The Cattle Team meet every Tuesday afternoon to enhance their showing
skills and discuss future events. This term they will travel to Sydney for
the Royal Easter Show and compete in a number of activities. The team
have been very successful in the past and we are hoping that they can
bring home lots of ribbons this time as well. Members of the Cattle Team
should bring a change of clothes, hat and boots for Tuesday afternoons.
Gifted and Talented Art
To accommodate students who are gifted and talented in various
areas, teachers have designed courses or extra classes that cater for
their needs. Mr Jones has selected students to further their skills in
Visual Arts and will dedicate an hour per week to enhancing these
skills. It is very exciting that we have students of this calibre and we
look forward to seeing their creations.
Book Club
For those students who are avid and active readers,
Trangie Central holds a Book Club that meets every
Thursday lunch. It is a welcome and supportive
environment that encourages reading outside of
school. Members discuss characters, events and plot
and benefit from these personal conversations. See
Miss Waters for more information. All are welcome.

Assistant Principals’ Report
What a wonderful start to the year we’ve had! All the
teachers have been super busy organising lots of learning
experiences and preparing their learning environments
for an enriching and diverse year.
Back Playground Our back playground is making steady progress and we hope to have it
all completed as soon as possible. Many thanks must go out to the
dedicated and committed members of the P & C and community who
come in on their weekends to keep this project on track, with jobs such
as watering the gardens and delivering the road base. Without support
from our parents, carers, teachers and community our school would not
be the great example it is today.
Sharing Food It has been brought to our attention that some students are asking other
students for food. It is a strict policy of TCS that no student is to share
food. We implement this policy to ensure that students do not spread
coughs, colds, or anything contagious. We ask that parents please
ensure that their children are provided with a healthy, nutritious lunch
box that will last them throughout the day.
Early Birds We are very excited to see the first of our Early Birds attend our very
successful pre-Kindy program. This program is designed to assist early
years learning and prepare our new Kindergartens for the rigours of
school life.
Gobondery/Narraf Swimming Carnival 24 primary students have been selected as part of the TCS swimming
team to represent our school in the annual NARRAF/Gobondery
swimming carnival this Friday in Warren. We are extremely proud to
be sending such a large group of students, and this is testament to the
wealth of talent we have here at TCS. We wish the students all the best
and know that they will put in 100% effort in all their events. Pictured
below is Ben Skinner and Claudia St Clair who will both be competing
in six different events.
Sleeping Patterns for Primary
Aged Children
Sleep deprivation can lead to
f a t i g u e , l e a r n i n g a n d
concentration difficulties and
accidents. Children who do not
get enough sleep may display
symptoms including moodiness,
tantrums and hyperact ive
behaviour. Medication, illness,
school and stress can all lead to
sleep deprivation.
Sleep deprivation affects children
in different ways to adults. Sleepy
children tend to ‘speed up’ rather
than slow down.
Symptoms include:
Moodiness and irritability
Temper tantrums
The tendency to emotionally
‘explode’ at the slightest
provocation
Over-activity and hyperactive
behaviour
Daytime naps
Grogginess when they wake up
in the morning
Reluctance to get out of bed in
the morning.
How much is enough?
Sleep requirements differ from
one person to the next depending
on age, physical activity levels,
general health and other
individual factors.
In general:
Primary school children – need
about nine to 10 hours. Studies
show that increasing your child’s
sleep by as little as half an hour
can dramatically improve school
performance.

PRIMARY Sapphires Newsletter
The Sapphires have had an awesome start
to the year. Our class comprises of
students from Year 4, 5 and all of the
Year 6’s. The Year 6’s have been very
keen to begin organising Year 6
formalities such as the Year 6 Dinner and
a Year 6 t-shirt. I am extremely
impressed with the mature approach
these students took in selecting a t-shirt,
very democratic.
The Sapphires are working very hard in
all areas. A great start to the year.
As part of our introduction to the Sapphires, we discussed as a class what we thought a “Great Classmate”
should be, what they should do, what they should say and what they should not be. There certainly were
some very intelligent answers from a class full of intelligent students.
The Sapphires are certainly well on their way to having “100 Acts of Kindness”. The students in this class
are so very nice and kind. They have enjoyed being involved in a peer support program with the new
Kindergarten students and are positive role models for the younger students.

FIT KIDS is back
at TRANGIE CENTRAL
SCHOOL
Commencing Wednesday 26th February (Kinder – Year 2) and Thursday 27th February (Years 3 – 6) from
3:15 pm to 4:30 pm we will be running the Active After-School Communities (AASC) program. Sessions
will continue until the end of Term 2. This Australian Government program is run by the Australian Sports
Commission and provides opportunities for primary school children to participate in free sport and other
structured physical activity, after school.
This term a diverse and dynamic AASC program has been put together for children to enjoy including
Netball, Revised Rugby League and Soccer . The activities focus on increasing physical activity and
improving skills in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.
To ensure children can take advantage of this excellent opportunity, we encourage parents to allow them to
participate for the full hour and to pick them up after the program concludes.
Information flyers and enrolment forms have been distributed to students Kinder – Year 6. You will need to
ensure that your child returns the enrolment form to the school or to the Coordinators when attending their
first session.
NO CHILD WILL BE PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE
IF COMPLETED ENROLMENT FORMS HAVE NOT BEEN
RETURNED.
Please ensure that you have included all medical and parent/guardian contact details.
