Staff Smile of the Week (Week 8)
Goes to Dimiti for a fantastic job this week!
Hi everyone – Everyone at TCS always gives of their best!
What a great Term 3 we have had at Trangie Central School. We are continuing to finish the term well with our
NAIDOC Debating students successful at Regional Finals and Premier’s Spelling Bee Challenge students
participating in the regional finals, NAIDOC celebrations and Year 12 Final Assembly.
NAIDOC Debaters Made STATE!
Bryce Hannaford, Karly Edwards, Morgan Gale and Meegan Seymour travelled with Miss Press to Dubbo on
Wednesday 14th September to compete in the Regional Finals of the NAIDOC Debating. The students had to debate
the topic ‘That Traditional Aboriginal songlines should be maintained’. The students had to disagree with this topic,
arguing the negative case. They all did a fantastic job and have qualified for the State Finals to be held at Taronga
Western Plains Zoo later in the year.
Regional Spelling Bee
Ms Murtagh accompanied Matilda Brennan, Brock Kilgour, Annalee Ball and Rachel Su to Dubbo West Public
School to compete in the Regional Spelling Bee Finals. The students tried extremely hard and did very well on the
day. We are very proud of the great effort these students put in.
NAIDOC Celebrations
Our NAIDOC week celebrations were kicked off with a wonderful assembly on Monday. We were lucky to have
Aunty Di McNaboe as our guest speaker. She explained the significance of songlines to her and told us some of her
tradition songlines. Aunty Di also continued the day with workshops with students in primary and secondary and
many of our students were privileged enough to try on her beautiful kangaroo and possum skin cloaks. We were also
entertained by our Aboriginal Dance Group and the Year 7 LOTE class finished the assembly by singing the school
song in Wiradjuri. We still have the Community Touch Footy afternoon today and the Activity Day on Friday.
Year 12 Final Assembly
Next Thursday 22nd September will be the Year 12 Farewell and Term 3 Assembly. Students will be recognised for
their many achievements over the term and year, and in particular we will be celebrating the accomplishments of the
year 12 students as they come towards the end of thirteen years of schooling. What a great effort and well done to the
Class of 2016 - Tom Carter, Jacky Fidock, Ellie Fulwood, Tanya Hattingh and Leonie Jones!
Finally ........
Please join us in our many celebrations and have a safe and happy holiday. Please do not hesitate to contact me with
any concerns. Our door is and always has been open!

Year 12 WAP Graduation Evening
Last Friday I had the honour of attending the Graduation Evening for our
Year 12 students across the Western Access Program. It was a wonderful
evening, showcasing the achievements of the students across WAP in their
HSC, and Trangie was among the highest performers, picking up a
number of awards in addition to their Graduation Certificates. It was held
at Club Dubbo, and I would like to thank David Gaunt and James Peter for
their efforts in creating a smooth and celebratory event.
Trangie students were presented with the following awards:
Leonie Jones– Achievement Award for Personal Development, Health
and Physical Education (PDHPE)
Ellie Fulwood– Achievement Award for Food Technology
Jacky Fidock– Achievement Award for Advanced English
Jacky Fidock– Excellence Award for Food Technology
Events such as this are not only a milestone in our students’ lives, they are
also a reminder of the opportunities for senior curriculum we are able to
offer at Trangie Central, through the power of collaborative teaching and
learning and effective use of ICT. Students
at small schools can still achieve great
success and, in addition, are able to access
more individualised teaching and support, as
well as more detailed feedback to improve
their learning.
Congratulations Jacky, Leonie, Ellie,
Tanya and Tom!
Term 3 Focus: Reading
Did you know? The more you read, the better you become not only at reading, but also writing, speaking and
empathising. It all begins with a good book!

Extraordinary Pork Excursion
On Wednesday 7th September our 9/10 elective Agriculture class and senior Primary Industries students travelled to
Eumungerie to visit the free range Extraordinary Pork farm. The business supplies meat locally and to Sydney, as well
as to 40 members of a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Club. Our students learnt a great deal about the
various aspects of pork production including: marketing, breeding, farrowing, nutrition, butchering and packaging,
paddock rotation and mobile housing. Farmer Michael gave a tour of the Keyline designed property where they focus
on holistic management incorporating regenerative farming and stress free stock handling. Students were able to
inspect the cool room where carcasses are butchered and packaged. We had the opportunity to mingle with the pigs,
which were very friendly and view the new born piglets. TCS would like to thank Farmer Michael and his wife Alex
for the fantastic experience and wealth of knowledge shared.

TCS Win NAIDOC Debating Regional Finals!
Trangie Central School students have cemented their name
amongst the best of the best in terms of debaters across our
region by taking out the 2016 Regional Final of the NAIDOC
Debating held in Dubbo yesterday.
Karly Edwards, Bryce Hannaford, Morgan Gale and Meegan
Seymour did an outstanding job in representing themselves and
their school in not one, but two debates held over the course of
the day.
The team had to prepare an affirmative and negative debate on
the topic “That Traditional Aboriginal Songlines should be
maintained” and were told just minutes before they faced their
opposing team as to which side they would argue.
In the first round, Trangie Central School debated against
previous State debaters Forbes High School by arguing the
negative case, that “Traditional Aboriginal Songlines should not
be maintained”. Our students were up against some very stiff
competition in this round however their quick thinking and
synthesising of arguments on their feet saw them take the win.
They then proceeded into the final round against South Dubbo,
again arguing that “Traditional Aboriginal Songlines should not
be maintained”. They did an outstanding job in this round as
well, making clear and concise arguments and speaking with
great confidence and tenacity. This saw them crowned the
regional winners, a title which was hard-earned and one of great
esteem. This experienced and talented debating team will now
head to the State Finals to compete against schools from across
New South Wales at the Western Plains Zoo next month.
I would like to wish them all the best for their future challenge
and congratulate them on doing exceedingly well in honing their
skills as public speakers and debaters, and becoming the fantastic
representatives of the school that they are. Well done Karly,
Bryce, Morgan and Meegan.

NAIDOC Week Celebrations
Throughout the week Primary students have enjoyed many opportunities to celebrate and recognise the importance
of Aboriginal culture, both here in our little town and also on a broader, national scale. This year the students have
learnt about the importance of songlines as a way to pass down learning from one generation to the next and to also
connect stories from far reaching Aboriginal nations. Songlines encompass traditional songs, stories, dance, art and
carry spiritual and cultural significance for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nations and language groups.
We had Aunty Di come and talk to children and show them some artefacts and discuss how local songlines travelled
from way out west, through Trangie and across to Bathurst. She is a wonderful speaker and we always enjoy having
her visit our school.
This afternoon our families and community are invited to participate in the fun touch footy competition.
Tomorrow the children will participate in a full day of learning about the local Aboriginal Culture and
customs. Community members are welcome to attend.
Regional Spelling Bee Finals
On Wednesday four of our students travelled to Dubbo West Public
School to participate in the annual Premiers Spelling Bee Regional
Finals. Our students were competing against approximately 25 schools
from around the district. The competition was very fierce and nerve
wracking. This is what our competitors had to say….
‘It was a great experience and my first time ever going to the finals.
There were so many people and I had fun’. Koby Kilgour
‘There were some hard words but it turned out to be a fun and good
experience. There were lots of good spellers and I will never forget
how to spell pathology!’ Matilda Brennan
‘There were a lot of guests and visitors which made me quite nervous.
I’m blaming my nerves on the fact that I got out on the word MAYOR! Oh no!’ Annalee Ball
‘It was my first time going to the regional finals and it was quite exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. The
best spellers from each school were there. It was fun.’ Rachel Su
Hip-Hopping from Bollywood to Brazil
Music, laughter, exercise, learning and fun was enjoyed by all of the children who attended the
dance workshop that visited our school on Wednesday. Our students all learned some new steps
and gained confidence by experiencing dance from
different cultures.

Jacky Murtagh PRIMARY Moorambilla Voices
The Moorambilla Voices Regional Girls and Boys Choirs
are for primary students in Years 3-6. Following the Skills
Development Workshop Tour, talented girls and boys are
offered a place in the choir and the chance to participate in
the Baradine Residency Camps, Gala Performances,
Tours or Concerts and recordings throughout the year. Next week, five students from our Primary department will
attend their final camp, culminating in two gala performances at the Dubbo Regional Theatre on Saturday 24th
September.
The Moorambilla Voices program provides a rare and valuable opportunity to connect with music-making of the
highest calibre in collaboration with some of Australia’s finest composers, musicians, choreographers and regional
artists. This is a real achievement and brings the joy of actively making and creating music to so many children in a
region too often isolated from quality cultural experiences.
The towns participating in the 2016 program include: Bellata, Bourke, Brewarrina, Burren Junction, Carinda, Cobar,
Collarenebri, Coolah, Coonabarabran, Coonamble, Dubbo, Dunedoo, Geurie, Gilgandra, Glebe, Goodooga,
Leichhardt, Lightning Ridge, Mendooran, Mungindi, Nyngan, Orange, Rowena, Walgett, Warren, Tamworth,
Tooraweenah, Trangie, Wee Waa, Wellington and two children from Western Australia!
The repertoire and skills learnt during the residency camps are
put into practice at the annual Moorambilla Gala Concert in
September. The girls travel from Baradine to Dubbo, and then
perform in two concerts alongside some of Australia’s leading
musicians and associate ensembles, including artists from
Queensland Ballet, The Song Company and percussionists from
Taikoz.
Congratulations to Grace Barbary, Ebony Shaw, Montanna Gall,
Bridie Hayden, Narelle Shillingsworth-Budd and Katelyn
O’Neill. We are very proud of your achievements!
Literacy Challenge – how many words can be made out of the letters in Trangie Central School?
Thank you to the families that got involved in the Literacy challenge we ran to celebrate Literacy
and Numeracy week. Ms Ellis received lots of entries in the competition with the winners being
the Broughton family - Luke, Ellen and Cam - who scored an amazing total of 680 words.
Kestrel was the runner up with a fabulous effort; making 612 words!
