We are three weeks into the year 2011 and still it seems unreal. What a year we have left behind! Having had a successful 2010 as a business and for South Africans in general with regards to the World Cup, the New Year comes with a promise of new beginnings, fresh inspiration, show stopping weddings, functions and excitement, and strengthened relationships with our clients. This year I did not make any new year’s resolutions, rather I adopt the phrase “Impossible is not an option”. May this also be real in your personal lives, whether it is a function you’re planning, in your career or a new venture that you have been contemplating. So we’re engaged, now what??

A shiny thing on your left ring finger catches your eye and you have to pinch yourself again to make sure you are not imagining it - you’re engaged! Almostimmediately after the joyous feeling of engagement there is that other feeling… a wedding, and where and how to start planning it. Since this is such a specialtime in your life, take the time to enjoy the engagement before the exciting task of planning starts. Here’s how…

Do enjoy every single moment of it; it is a blessing and gift to have found someone who is willing to love you for who you are.

Do not go around telling anyone who is willing to listen to the story of how it unfolded. Tell if you’re asked and share the happy story with close friends andrelatives.

Do send out save the dates, especially if you are planning a destination wedding. Give your guests adequate time to make arrangements.

Do involve your groom once you start planning as this is a special time to plan and share together.

… On the other hand

Do not engage in wedding talk only. Remember that you are not only a bride to be, but a friend and a companion.

Do not start with one of those crazy diets. He did ask you when you looked like you always do, right? You don’t want him to wonder if it really is you walkingdown the aisle. Besides, giving up chocolate is ridiculous.

DO treasure and share every special moment of the journey.

There is something about a photograph like this one. It is mysterious and intriguing. What do these people look like? Are they smiling, pulling faces? One cancertainly appreciate a great pair of heels like those! Jacqui and DC were such a fun and quirky couple. It always helps if the couple is willing to experiment andhave fun with the camera. The blue wall in front of Blanco's Café made a perfect background for this picture. Frederick Foster Photography.

Ilana and Jacques met at varsity; here is their story in their own words:

Ons was dadelik onafskeidbaar.

Alles was absoluut perfek.
