Fire is a chemical reaction involving rapid oxidation or burning of a

fuel. It needs three elements to occur

Page 42: TRAINING PRESENTATION

Basic knowledge on fire-fighting

Page 43: TRAINING PRESENTATION

Basic concept on Fire• FUEL can be any combustible material - solid, liquid or gas. Most solids and liquids

• become a vapor or gas before they will burn.

• The AIR we breathe is 21 percent Oxygen, Fire only needs an atmosphere with at least 16

• percent OXYGEN

• HEAT - Heat is the energy necessary to increase the temperature of the fuel to a point

• where sufficient vapors are given off for ignition to occur.

• A chain reaction can occur when the three elements of fire are present in the proper• conditions and proportions. Fire occurs when this rapid oxidation, or burning takes place.

• Take any one of these factors away, and the fire cannot occur or will be extinguished if it• was already burning.

Page 44: TRAINING PRESENTATION

Is Your Home safe?Use the following tips to help you in your walkthrough:

• Keep clothes, blankets, curtains, towels, and other items that can easily catch on fire at least three feet from space heaters and away from stove burners.

• Place space heaters where they will not tip over easily.• Have chimneys cleaned and inspected every year by a professional.• Always use a metal mesh screen with fireplaces and leave glass doors open while

burning a fire.

• Never leave cooking unattended.• Be sure your stove and small appliances are off before going to bed.

• Never overload electrical sockets.

• Keep lighters and matches out of the reach of children.• Never leave cigarettes unattended and never smoke in bed.

• Make sure cigarettes and ashes are out. The cigarette needs to be completely stubbed out in the ashtray or run under water.

TERRORIST ATTACK• Today, a highly networked group of

terrorists, scattered all over the country, and driven by a dangerous sense of anguish and revenge, pose a serious threat to India’s internal security. Innocent citizens continue to die.

• India is under a concerted assault by terrorist organizations using religious labels and drawing succor from across the border. The recent bombings in Jaipur, Banglore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi bear testimony to all this.
