This course is suitable for senior personnel of educational establishments with strategic responsibility for determining and implementing effective health and safety management systems within their school. This would be perfect for members of Senior Leadership Teams in schools and would also appeal to governors. COMPANY PROFILE SafetyMARK is a safety certification and support scheme created specifically for the education sector. SafetyMARK is administered by ‘In House’ which is a part of PHSC plc, the Safety, Health and Environmental Consultancy Group. SafetyMARK is delivering this course in conjunction with NASBM. The SafetyMARK scheme aims to recognise and reward those schools that have gone the extra mile to create a safe environment for staff, pupils, visitors and contractors. SafetyMARK is as much about the process of improvement and the provision of support as it is about the final goal of the award. In House has a proven track record based upon long-standing partnerships with schools, providing support in all aspects of health and safety. We have a long list of school clients, with some very prestigious names amongst them. Over the years, we have worked closely with school governors, management and operational staff and so we understand the people, the environment and the risks. This means that, at In House, we have developed the knowledge and expertise necessary to help create safe environments for education. PRESENTER Nicola Coote CFIOSH, MCIPD MIIRSM, Chartered Safety Practitioner Nicola is a founder member of PHSC plc and continues to work within the business on an operational and strategic level. She was the first female Fellow of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) in the south east of England, and sits on the Peer Review panel for safety practitioners applying for Chartered and Fellowship status. Nicola has been a key author for several leading publishers including Croner Publications, Gee professional Publishing and Lexis Nexus Butterworth Tolley. Nicola is also a school governor.

COURSE OVERVIEW: This course enables senior management (e.g. SLT and governors) to demonstrate leadership by attending a course that is accredited by the UK’s leading occupational health and safety institution. It will provide senior personnel with an insight into how health and safety management can be strategically integrated into other business objectives to enable effective management, and use a proven health and safety management system to best effect when dealing with stakeholders such as Ofsted, ISI and care-givers of potential new pupils. COURSE OBJECTIVES: By the end of the training delegates will be able to:
Understand the Health and Safety role and responsibilities of senior executives
Recognise the importance of integrating Health and Safety objectives with other business objectives
Take account of Health and Safety aspects during strategic planning, decision making and effective supply chain management
Be aware of the consequences of failing to manage health and safety
Understand the principles and methods of a management system, continual improvement and annual reporting
Understand how health and safety can be integrated into other business objectives
Understand how use of a validated safety management system can provide added value, eg during Ofsted inspections, marketing your school etc.
