American dream Following the success of The Tuche Family (with an audience of 1.5 million in movie theaters and 8.4 million viewers when it was broadcast on French channel television TF1 on 7th February 2016), Olivier Baroux (Safari; The Italian; Bangkok, We Have a Problem!; Between Friends) is back with the kooky, lottery-winning family. Shot on the other side of the Atlantic, the film sees the return of nutty-yet-loving parents Jean-Paul Rouve and Isabelle Nanty, joined by Claire Nadeau, the granny who only the Native Americans can understand.

On his first ever carpooling trip to the Flots Bleus Campsite, Patrick Chirac meets three young people with whom he ends up spending the summer. For the director, it was an opportunity to both expand the cast to a new generation of actors (Louka Meliava, Cyril Mendy, Jules Ritmanic, Leslie Medina), and to reunite Gérard Jugnot and Michèle Laroque, the holidaymakers whose worst nightmare is having to spend the night in a tent. The dark humour is back and the characters are sweeter and more touching than ever.

Jacqueline’s triumphAn Algerian farmer’s dreams come true when he is invited to present his beloved cow Jacqueline at the Paris Agricultural Show. He sets off on foot… This feel-good road movie brings together Fatsah Bouyahmed (who takes on his first major role since in Mohamed Hamidi’s Homeland), Lambert Wilson, and Jamel Debbouze.

The Grand Prize, the Audience Award, and the Michel Galabru Performance Award for Fatsah Bouyahmed at the International Comedy Film Festival, Alpe d’Huez

People yearn for kindness, tenderness and real human connections, but that’s not fashionable: kindness is seen as a weakness. Fatsah Bouyahmed, Le Monde

Europe in the wild: 20,000 years“Thanks to their awe-inspiring visuals, films have the power to be a real wake-up call.” Following Winged Migration and Oceans, Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud retrace 20,000 years of the history of Europe and its landscapes as seen through the eyes of wild animals. The pair showcase their technical prowess, which they apply to capture magical moments using a form of “embedding” technique that allows the filmmaking team to get up close to animals that instinctively avoid humans.

We kept our screenplay open to uncertainty, surprise, and unforeseen circumstances for as long as possible. The natural world is a film set where the lighting cannot be controlled. You need to wait, arm yourself with patience, and blend into the environment. Not knowing where you’re headed is the only way to keep your curiosity and passion alive. Each film is a gamble, with enthusiasm its only guide.Jacques Perrin

Traitor or modern hero?A director with a passionate interest in the role his country plays in the world, Oliver Stone (Wall Street, JFK, Born on the Fourth of July) presents a portrait of Edward Snowden, the man who brought NSA (United States National Security Agency) surveillance into the light. An homage to a young computer specialist, intransigent and pure, brilliantly portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the film concentrates on the stages of his decision to sacrifice his personal and professional life, from his recruitment by the NSA, to the meeting in Hong Kong where he would reveal his discoveries to journalists.

Who is Edward Snowden? Why did he do it? How did he do it? Our film attempts to answer these questions and to embody what is both an important story and an ancient legend.Oliver Stone

An intimate thriller [in which] Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives consistent truth and depth to his portrayal of Snowden.Danièle Heymann, Marianne

Although Florence Foster Jenkins is undoubtedly a comedy, it is also enormously touching. As in Philomena, there is a kind of fragile nobility to his women, on a mission. It helps that Frears is able to call on the world’s greatest actresses. Daily Mail

Six works were shown in 2016, bringing in a total of 30,000 moviegoers.

The Cannes in Paris event allowed Parisian audiences to experience the Cannes Festival for themselves. Over three days, the Gaumont Opéra screened a number of the films in competition.
