NUTRITIONEXPLORATORY ACTIVITY

Answer the following questions1. What do you do to get energy?2. What energy sources do you know?3. Why is energy important for the living

things?4. How could you classify living things

according to the way they get energy?5. What would happen to living things if

they do not get energy?

NUTRITIONWORKSHOP NO. 1

1. Read, analyze and understand the information about ENERGY. Then copy the three most important ideas of what you read.

2. Read and write the definition of NUTRITION.

3. Which are the two types of nutrition. Explain each one.

For the ecosystem to function, energy must be available and it must be transferred.

Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, but can be converted from one form to another.

Everything is running downhill or, more formally, everything in the universe is going from a more organized state to a less organized one.

Example: Let's consider a car with a full tank of gasoline. The gasoline is burnt, the car goes, and the gasoline is broken down into gases and heat, but the total amount of energy is constant although now it is in a different form, namely heat. Heat is a very disorganized form of energy.

Living things need constantly to invest energy. There is, however, only one energy source available to earth’s organisms and that is the sun.

Photosynthesis is the only means available to use this source energy.

NUTRITIONIt is a function that allows living things to incorporate food to get energy and matter in order to accomplish all their activities. Ingested nutrients give organisms not only energy but also materials to repair body injuries, grow up and reproduce. There are two nutrition types according to the way organisms get nutrients (ENERGY PATHWAYS: AUTOTROPHOUS NUTRITION: In this type of nutrition some organisms produce their own food, thanks to photosynthesis. This process is accomplished by solar light and inorganic materials from the environment. Products resulting in the process are glucose, a kind of sugar and oxygen.Living things producing their own food are called autotrophs. Green plants and unicellular algae are autotrophs.HETEROTROPHOUS NUTRITION : In this type of nutrition some organisms have to take food from autotrophs because they can not produce it. It means that without autotrophic beings, heterotrophic beings would not exist.
