Intro:  Tool Box TreasuresIf you’re looking for an innovative gift for the man in your life, why not consider buying him a tool box and filling it with the ten tools every home must have? This articlewill help you decide which tools to get so that he’ll be ready to tackle all those DIY jobs you want him to do!

Step 1: HammersFor removing loose nails, hanging pictures and installing hardware a standard claw hammer is just right. A good solid hammer can be used for driving nails into wood, and a 16 ounce classic is heavy enough for most basic home repairs. A tack hammer will help with reupholstering and small furniture trim jobs and a rubber mallet is idealfor tapping together loose fittings and assembling flat pack furniture.

Step 2: ScrewdriversIt’s a good idea to have a flathead screwdriver as well as a Phillips screwdriver in the box. The flathead will fit some screw heads and can be used for scraping andprying too. The Phillips head has a four point star at the end that fits into the screw head giving a greater force. They’re both available in a range of sizes.

Step 3: WrenchA crescent wrench is adjustable with a sliding jaw that changes its width, meaning that you can use the same tool on different sized nuts and bolts. The movable jaw isfound on the side towards which the rotation is done, making it safer to use. Make sure you adjust the wrench to fit snuggly on the nut or bolt or you may damage thehead.

Step 4: PliersPliers come in a variety of types including locking, needle-nose and wide-mouthed. Locking pliers let you grip more firmly and needle-nose styles are vital for holding in asmall space. Wide mouthed pliers can also be used as a wrench. Pliers are very versatile and can be used as wire cutters as well as clamps.

Step 5: DrillsA cordless drill with multiple speeds and a reversible feature is an essential tool to have in the toolbox. The reversible feature allows you to take out screws that haven’tgone in properly. Get one with plenty of power, around 12 volts is quite adequate. This’ll give you that power without the weight.

Step 6: SawsSmall toothed saws are ideal for metal or plastic pipe cutting around the home, but if you intend the saw to be used in the garden for cutting branches off trees or pruning, you’ll need one appropriate for those jobs. Crosscut saws can be used for all general purpose work so are probably your most economic choice.

Step 7: Spirit LevelStraight lines are essential when you’re hanging pictures or putting up shelving, so you’ll need a spirit level to determine that the line’s not crooked in any way. Theframe may often appear to be straight to the naked eye, but the level is the only way to accurately make a straight line.

Step 8: Measuring TapeA 25 metre retractable tape measure is a perfect buy. A locking mechanism will ensure the measure is recorded accurately. For smaller areas and more awkwardmeasurements a cloth measuring tape would also come in handy.

Step 9: Utility KnivesThese are vital for virtually every project you undertake so are a must in the toolbox. Super sharp blades make them ideal for cutting and scraping. They’re strong andversatile and can be used for literally hundreds of tasks.

Step 10: Safety equipmentLots of DIY jobs create huge amounts of dust so wearing protective glasses is vital to protect your eyes from flying debris. There are many types readily available to buyonline. Gloves and arm protection products should also be considered as safety must always come first.
