Attendance Information
Compulsory Attendance Law:
“A student may not be given credit for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90% of the days the class is offered. (No more than 8 days per semester and/or 16 days for the entire year) An at-tendance committee may give class credit to a student who is in at-tendance less than the number of days required because of extenuat-ing circumstances.”
If your child reaches 10 absences during a semester and/or 17 ab-sences for the year, you may be asked to appear before the atten-dance committee.
Please make a STRONG effort to send your child to school daily and on time. We understand that children of school age get ill, and we understand when they are too ill to come to school, but we have a registered nurse who can examine them when you believe they are ill and then determine if they are able to remain in school or should be sent home.
If an absence is necessary, you must send a parent or medical excuse with your child for each absence immediately upon his/her return to school. After five (5) parent notes, we will require only medical/dental notes to excuse an absence.
Page 25 Tolar High School 2015-2016
Attendance Continued
THS attendance guidelines and rules
Students will not be allowed to leave campus or sign themselves out
unless the parent or guardian has called the office and informed Mrs.
Thacker, Ms. Foster, or Mr. Morgan
Students will receive an unexcused absence until a doctor’s note is received.
After 5 parent notes a doctor’s note is required.
Student’s with excessive absences will be required to attend Saturday
school, Detention, ISS, or a combination of all depending on severity. Stu-
dents who do not meet the 90% attendance rule run the risk of losing
credit.
Students who are more than 15 minutes late to a class will receive an unex-
cused absence.
Partial absences (Missing 1 or more classes, but not a full day)
count against a student under the 90% rule. It is important to understand
that excessive absences in one or more classes over a time period can result
in loss of credit or truancy charges.
