HATS We are a ‘Sun-safe School’. Australia has the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. It is when our children are young that the damage is done. So, just a reminder that term 4 is a ‘Hats mandated’ term. ALL students are required to wear a hat when outdoors, including when under the new Basketball undercover area and during outside sport activities. The hat worn needs to be a regulation school uniform hat which can be purchased from the Uniform Shop or school office. No other hat is acceptable for ANY student. Students not wearing a hat or wearing a non-uniform hat will be relegated to sitting out their playtime in the undercover shade–sails area outside the office. PICK MY PROJECT Unfortunately we have been unsuccessful in gaining sufficient votes to enable us to receive a grant for our nominated project. We gained approximately 120 votes. The nearest vote to ours, who were successful in their application, gained 244 votes. However, I wish to send a special thanks to everyone who voted. I also want to send a special thanks to everyone who went over and above in either writing or preparing our application, photography, arranging and printing of flyers, marketing and any other small or large task. I have enjoyed hearing all the tales and the cultural experiences that the students have shared with me as I have visited the classrooms these past few days, especially the experience relayed by one student who told me about the cultural tradition, in Japan, of sharing the same bathwater. SCHOOL DISCO The School Disco is a fundraiser that is being coordinated by the parents of Grade 5/6 families on Friday 19th October. It promises to be a fun night for all the students. However, as with any event, we do require parent helpers to ensure that the event is adequately supervised and coordinated on the evening. So if you are able to spare an hour or two or come to one or the other of the sessions, please see either Coby, Dana or myself. Many thanks in advance appreciation

HALLOWEEN ON THE GREEN This event is creeping closer by the minute and promises to be yet another fun community event on Saturday 27th October. I’m looking forward to it…I don’t know why as I’m scheduled to be ‘dunked’ in the dunking machine! I’m hoping that it will be a day like Monday… Once again we need as many hands to support this community event as a share of the proceeds will come directly to us to support our fundraising. So, if you can spare a couple of hours on that Saturday, please see Bek Cranmer, myself or the office for further information.

JAPANESE CULTURAL DAY Our whole school Japanese Cultural Day enables students to have the opportunity to experience activities associated by that culture. Toshi, our inspiring Japanese teacher, works hard to ensure that the activities students participate in are authentic, engaging and are focussed on broadening each student’s multi-cultural understandings.

The cost for the incursion is $3 per student. Students are also able to order Sushi through the normal lunch ordering channels. However, students may also purchase authentic ‘Ramune’ which is Japanese lemonade, by completing the order section on the form sent home this week. Completed orders must be returned, together with the correct money, by Tuesday 16th October.

Arigatou gozaimasu!

TWILIGHT FESTIVAL Although the twilight festival is still some weeks away, there’s quite a lot of planning and organising that goes into the event to ensure its success. Each class is running its own stall which requires tasks of preparation, so please see your Class Parent Representative or class teacher if you are able to provide some form of support or assistance. The Twilight Event is our major fundraising event for the year. The funds from these events support the purchase of much needed resources for students.

GRADE 3/4 ALL STARS HOOPTIME TEAM Good luck to the Grade 3/4 All Stars HoopTime team who have made it through to the Regional Finals. They are playing this Thursday at Dandenong Stadium. On behalf of the community I would like to wish them all the best of luck…but above all represent our school proudly and display our values with pride by demonstrating good sportsmanship, as I know they will. Win, lose or draw, I hope they enjoy the day!

This term is promising to be a very busy term. So let’s fasten our seatbelts and enjoy the ride!

Have a great week, Anni PRINCIPAL

Trip to Japan From 13th Sep to 27th Sept, six students from our primary school participated to UDEC Japan study tour. We visited our sister school in Ibaraki and the students enjoyed schooling experiences and a home stay. It was very sad for us to say goodbye but we believe that our friendship will continue till we see each other again.

After we left Ibraki, we travelled together and visited Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Nara. Every day was such an adventure and the students were thrilled to discover something new about the country. It was wonderful to see how the students embraced the language and culture, and respected the people.

2019 iPad Information Evening for Grade 4 Parents

The evening will focus on the iPad program and how it works. I will also discuss the JBHIFI portal access for Ferny Creek parents to purchase iPads (if needed). The information evening usually goes for around an hour so I hope to see you there.
