I have just watched an announcement by Premier Daniel Andrews, outlining changes to Covid-19

restrictions in Victoria. I’m sure we are all thankful for the first steps we can now take in resuming

limited face to face contact with each other.

Nevertheless, it is nearly two months into what has almost become a new ‘normal’ for us all: “isolation,

restricted movement, social separation, testing, COVID-safe, daily news updates, dramatic and, for some, traumatic

impacts on our way of life and employment and education…” the list goes on. How could we ever have imagined that

the year would unfold as it has?

But of course these things have not taken God by surprise. And in the midst of the upheaval we are all experiencing at

so many levels in our lives, we can be assured of a far deeper, more constant hope: that we are deeply loved by the

One who created us, who called us, and offers us His presence and peace each and every day.

In a recent edition of Pioneers Australia XPRESS magazine, I read...

“The fact is that no matter what the changes, some things stay the same…

The necessity and effectiveness of the cross – Jesus died once and for all (John 12:32)

The building of the church – nothing can stop Jesus doing what He said He will do (Matt 16:8)

The promise of the Lord Jesus to be with us as we make disciples – we are not alone (Matt 28:18-20)

The guarantee of what the end of the age looks like (Revelation 7:9-12).”

Can I encourage you to take heart in these realities and join us in praying for each other and the outreach of New Pen.

Join us each week on Tuesdays at our weekly Zoom prayer meeting. See below for more details.

There was a gradual easing of restrictions from 11:59pm Tuesday 12 May.

The changes now allow for:

1. Indoor gatherings with up to 5 visitors allowed. (This allows us to travel to these

homes).

2. Outdoor gatherings can have up to 10 people meeting for either exercise or

outdoor activities.

3. A slight easing on numbers attending funerals or weddings.

4. There will be a staggered return to schools from May 26.

These restrictions are in addition to the previous ones of only leaving home for food &

essential supplies, medical care, exercise or work.

In these times, when there is a lot of negative information about China in our media, it is good to be well informed and praying for this nation. The

following material from Pioneers Australia may assist you:

CHINA is one of the most interesting countries on the planet. It is the world's third biggest country by territory and has the larg est

population. China is also known for its rich culture and ancient history attracting tens of thousands of visitors every year.

There are 56 ethnic groups living in China. Each of them has its own distinctive culture, language and writing system. Most of them are minority

groups, Han being the largest one occupying almost 91% of the entire population. Here are some facts about this beautiful and diverse country:

About 35 million Chinese live in caves, an architectural style dating back to the stone age

50 million Chinese live abroad.

Many websites are blocked in China.

How we can pray:

Pray for China's health crisis. May they experience the healing power of Jesus in unexpected and powerful ways.

Pray for the Chinese population to enjoy freedom of religious belief.

Pray for our Christian brothers and sisters facing persecution.

Pray for wisdom and courage for those seeking to help people find everlasting hope.

Pray for the softening of hearts.

It is important for us, as a church family, to keep sharing the good

things, that we can praise God for as well as prayer requests. So let’s

keep praying for each other and praising God for His goodness and

blessings.

Please email your good news stories and prayer requests through to

[email protected] and we will share them with all of our

New Pen church family. Photos welcome too!

Confidential prayer requests will be forwarded to the confidential prayer

chain.

'Come to Me, all you who labour and are

heavy laden for cares for you.’

(Matthew 11:28)

We are very thankful to God for those who have moved over to e-giving. It has been a

great encouragement. We are also thankful we’ve been able to access the government

stimulus and the “JobKeeper” packages. I am particularly thankful, as I imagine the staff

are to, because this means we don’t have to make the difficult decision about reducing

staffing.

However we still need to continue to pray for our finances given the restrictions have

significantly affected our income from hires and events which pays for a substantial

amount of our Mount Martha site costs.

If you would like to switch over to online giving but not sure how to do it, please email

Linda Jackson with your name and a contact phone number. Linda will then call you and

help you set it up. Linda’s email is [email protected].
