Our Pinot Noirs are ever growing in popularity, and who can blame us! Combine Old World structure; New World power, a large dollop of intense fruit, plenty of regions not two the same and you have a constant seduction.
In New Zealand we have been spoilt with such regions as Martinborough, Wairarapa, Marlborough, Nelson, Waipara, Canterbury and Central Otago to name a few. NZ's exports have more than doubled in recent years, with Marlborough still the largest grower with almost 2500 hectares in plantations.
We also love the stuff though, as consumption is almost one third of total production right here in New Zealand. Although the Central Otago region has been favoured by many in recent years with its intense complexity, Marlborough and Martinborough are always tentalising us with suttle yet distinct differences which further continue our exploration of this grape.
As far as food is concerned, Pinot Noir with all its elegance and expressiveness, has shown us an ability to suit just about any dish with ease, from salmon to duck, pork and cheese, we can't seem to get enough of it.
We’re sure you'll find one to enhance your experience.

So, the difference between Shiraz and Syrah? Nothing – they are the same Varietal. Shiraz or Syrah is grown throughout the world, used primarily to produce red wine. A DNA test in 1999 found that Syrah is the offspring of two grapes from France, the Dureza-red & dark from the Rhone-Alpes Region, and Mondeuse blanche –almost extinct variety of white grape found in Savoy.
Syrah varies a great deal based on climate and terroir. From the medium to full-bodied wines of the Rhone Valley to the hot climates of the Barossa Valley in Australia where it is more consistently full-bodied. Syrah has fascinated us with demand grown so much that production in New Zealand, France and Australia alone has more than doubled in the past decade.nt market). NB production in Australia is almost 25% more than the total combined annual wine production of New Zealand!
In France the result is med-high levels of tannins with flavours of blackberries, dried figs, blueberries, mint and pepper, growth is almost all in the Northen Rhone region.
In New Zealand, where the style lends itself towards France, we can expect a smoother and lighter wine, with added flavours of black olives, tobacco, black cherries, white pepper and violet. Our more notable areas of growth are Waiheke Island, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, Martinborough, Marlborough and Waipara.
The Australian wine will tend to be heartier, at times with softer tan-nins, notes of spices and liquorice, blackberries, anise and earthy leather and jammier fruits such as plums. Think Mclaren Vale, Hunter Valley, Heathcote, Coonawarra, Ghiran and Barossa Valley.
Shiraz/Syrah is easily paired with most meats such as lamb, beef, pork, venison & duck. Loving a grilled cut, it will be just fine with a sultry not too sweet jus, and to finish let’s not forget of course cheeses and the ever decadent chocolate.

This is the largest area of Scotland and also distilleries. As such the variance in flavours and finish can vary greatly. With this in mind the whiskies can range from dry to sweet, some even having a touch of smoke and peat, overall however they are thought to have more of a kick. Naturally as per minimum requirements, all are aged in their barrels for at least 3 years.
Often called the 'Whisky Island' due to only eight distilleries there. The island produces very distinct malts, generally heavily peated and smoky in flavour.
Dear Whiskey lover, on the following pages are but a few which we'd love to have available all year round. Alas global demand and constant changes to pricing and production options have an impact on availablility. In New Zealand for example where the consumption of the Japanese collection barely registers on a global scale it can prove to be difficult to maintain consistancy in supply. Much effort goes into maintaining a reasonable level of choices, however, please bare with us as at times your first choice may not be available.

Speyside
30ml No.
Technically Speyside lies within the Highland region. It is home to approximately half of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries. This small area of land produces mellow, sweet, and at times fruit aromatic whiskies.
irish
30ml No.
Most Irish pot still whiskey is distilled three times, while most (but not all) Scotch whisky, is distilled twice. Peat is rarely used in the malting process, so often Irish whiskey can have a smoother finish as opposed to the smoky, earthy overtones common to some Scotches.
japanese
Broadly speaking Japanese whisky is much more similar to the Scottish style than any other. Production dates back to 1870 in Japan. Although it was all to create whisky for the local market, today Japanese single malts are widely respected, often beating some of Scotland’s best in blind tastings.

BOURBON
30mlNo.
Bourbon whiskey is a type of American whiskey: a barrel-aged distilled spirit made primarily from corn. Although the name “Bourbon” was applied in the 1850s, and the true Kentucky etymology was advanced by the 1870s, the invention or origin of bourbon is to date somewhat of a myth with varying stories. From the invention by a pioneering Baptist minister and distiller named Elijah Craig, to it being named after Bourbon St in New Orleans. One thing we do know : we love to drink it.
new zealand whiskiesNew Zealand whiskies are a collection of predominantly single malt whiskies with a few blended available. The ori-gins date back to December of 1969 when the Baker family went into production with it's first release in 1974, at the time named Wilson Distilleries. Located in Dunedin, it was the most Southerly whisky distillery in the world. Over the years, it has been passed through various global beverage companies, finally ceasing production in 1997-2000. Since then, a few attempts have been made at re-igniting what was left of the original dis-tillations, and these have now finally been rebranded under a new passionate and invigorative stewardship. Although there are a few active distilleries currently in New Zealand, production is extremely limited at this time and mostly ex-ported, with future releases eminent and hotly anticipated. In the mean time, we have put together a small selection of those rare original distillations which are slowly approach-ing the end of the line. So why not join us for a drop of history from the few barrels that remain?
