SECTION 1 - GENERAL INSTALLATION NOTES:

GENERAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES

· Don't drop products during handling. Dropping or striking members against any solid objects will damage the finish and may cause fabricated jointsand applied sealants to fail. Stack with adequate separation so materials will not rub together. Use interleaving material if needed. Cardboardwrapped or paper interleaved material must be kept dry. Store products off the ground. Protect against the elements, and damage by otherconstruction trades.

· Keep material away from water, mud, and construction materials. Prevent cement, plaster or other materials from damaging the finish.

· Protect the erected framing by wrapping with Kraft paper or by erecting sheet plastic or canvas splatter screens. Cement, plaster, terrazzo and otheralkaline solutions are very harmful to the finish. Under no circumstances allow these materials to dry on the finish or permanent staining will occur.Remove immediately with mild soap and water.

· All materials should be checked for quality and quantity upon receipt, Pittco must be notified immediately of any discrepancies. Check to make sureyou have the required shims, supplies, sealants, and tools necessary for installation.

· Any material substitutions must be of equal or greater quality.

· Sealants must be compatible with all materials with which they have contact, including other sealant surfaces. Consult with your sealant supplier forrecommendations relative to shelf life, compatibility, priming, tooling, adhesion, safety, etc.

· "Fastening" will mean any method of securing one part to another or to adjacent materials. These instructions will specify only those fasteners usedwithin the system. (Perimeter or anchor fasteners are normally not specified due to varying surrounding conditions.)

· Glazing gaskets should be cut long to account for shrinkage. They should be installed by inserting both corners first, then the center of the gasketfollowed by the quarter points. Continue subdividing the opening until the gasket can be easily and completely rolled into the gasket pocket. Gasketsinstalled in this manner will close at the corners and will not shrink or pull back at the ends.

· Isolate all aluminum to be placed directly in contact with concrete with a heavy coat of bituminous paint. Isolate aluminum from incompatiblematerials with plastic shims, paint finish, or zinc rich primer.

· Any horizontals will act as collectors of infiltrated water and will direct water to the vertical pockets that will act as downspouts. Water deflectors mustbe installed above all lights of glass to insure that water is directed from the downspouts to the outside of the building. Sill flashing is not required inall applications, when flashing is required end dams should be utilized.

· Take field measurements BEFORE fabrication to ensure a proper fit. A minimum perimeter shim space of 3 4" is required at the head, and 12" sill andjambs. Joint at head may be increased to accommodate building movements and / or thermal expansion with a "T" anchor. Joint should be twice thetotal anticipated movement.

SIZING THE FRAMING

ANCHOR TYPES AND LOCATIONS

1. Measure The Opening:

Before fabricating material, an accurate frame size should be determinedby physically measuring the actual dimensions of the intended opening.Because of construction tolerances and construction practices, the actualopening may not be in total accordance with the approved shop drawings.

· Measure the width of the opening in several places to determine theminimum opening width.

· Measure the height of the opening in several places to determine theminimum opening height.

· Check level and plumb of the opening and adjust width and heightmeasurements accordingly.

2. Determine The Frame Size:

· After determining the maximum rough opening width, subtract twicethe allowance for perimeter jamb sealant to determine the requiredframe width.

· After determining the maximum rough opening height, subtract theallowance for perimeter sealant at the sill and the allowance forperimeter sealant at the head to determine the required frame height.

3. Determine Anchor Conditions and Locations:

· Review the opening conditions to determine the type of anchoringrequired and the location of the anchors.

· Assess the surrounding structure to verify that if the type of anchorsshown on the shop drawings can be correctly installed.

· Note anchor types at each condition which will be used duringinstallation of the wall.

· Make sure the shop drawings reflect your notes before fabricating theframe.

SECTION 4 - SEALANT AND ERECTION PROCEDURES

In all the following details the perimeter sealant should be applied BEFORE THE FACE AND RETAINER ARE INSTALLED. However, the areabetween the outboard edge of the sill closure plate and the vertical retainer must be left open to allow water drainage.

When using 52-251 jambs preload exterior isolator gasket prior to installation.

Standard system splice joint including 2 sided SSG horizontals:Backer rod at vertical expansion joint should be approximately the same length as the metal splice and completely covered with sealant.(Refer to details 11, 12, 13 and 17.) When the vertical mullion has been properly located and anchored, apply a non-hardening,non-skinning sealant at the 1/2" nominal expansion joint to the entire front surface and return on each side approximately 1/2". Apply enoughsealant to front side of mullion to make a sealant reservoir so when mullion expands, sealant will not be overstretched. (Refer to details 14,15, 16 and 18.)

SSG 2 sided vertical, vertical splice joint:At the 1/2" vertical expansion joints this area must be sealed with a low modulus silicone compatible to the silicone used to structurally bondthe glass to the mullion. (Refer to details 31, 32 and 33.)

Anchorage of verticals at floor edge:Anchors should be arranged so that they always occur on the same side of the vertical mullions in the spandrel area, when glazing light fromthe interior. When this cannot be accomplished, glazing of this light may require the "re-glazing from exterior" procedure shown in details 9and 10 or the use of 52-265 horizontal. The glass edge spacer #12-908-6350 must be installed in the "deep" glazing pocket after the glassis set. These anti-walk spacers should be a minimum of two per light of glass spaced approximately 12" from top and bottom, and 3'-0" oncenter, maximum. For SSG verticals, interior corner lights cannot actually be set into the mullion from the interior of the building but must beset from the exterior even though they may be handled from the "floor". Of course the exterior weather seal must be installed from the exterior.Anti-walk spacers are not required on SSG verticals.

Glazing bead installation:For best watertight results, 17-004-6300 should be cut daylight opening plus 1/2". This will assure good tight joints at corners. Formaximum performance (8 P.S.F. water and higher), a bead of sealant should be placed in glazing bead pocket at each corner beforeinstalling 17-004-6300. Run sealant approximately 1-1/2" to 2" each way from corner. When installing 17-004-6300 be sure some sealantseals corners of 17-004-6300. Exterior glazing bead (12-514-6300) does not require this sealant.

Special SSG notes:On SSG mullions where "sealant" is in contact with the silicone sealant this "sealant" must be silicone compatible. Exterior horizontal facescrossing structural silicone verticals may be continuous across these verticals but must have an expansion joint at the expansion verticalwide enough to accommodate horizontal expansion. Of course when this is done the entire face will have to be removed during any exteriorre-glaze operations and is not recommended. When applying structural silicone to bond glass to mullion and weather seal silicone to sealbetween lights of glass, it is recommended that masking tape be applied either side of this silicone joint before applying silicone. Siliconemust be tooled into the joint and immediately after have tape removed before silicone begins to "Skin Over". Of course all glass and metaledges must be cleaned immediately before applying silicone as per silicone manufacturers' recommendations.

1. BEFORE APPLYING ANY SEALANT FOLLOW SEALANT MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTION FOR CLEANING / PRIMING. USE A GOOD GRADE SILICONE SEALANT AND COMPLETELYFILL THE GLAZING REGLET BETWEEN THE END OF THE HORIZONTAL AND THE VERTICAL FRAMING MEMBERS.

2. THE DEFLECTOR 70-702-4153 HAS AN ADHESIVE PAD. REMOVE THE LINING AND ADHERE THE DEFLECTOR TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HORIZONTAL GLAZING POCKET MAKINGSURE TO PLACE DEFLECTOR TIGHT TO INTERIOR SIDE OF FRAMING AND TIGHT TO BOTTOM OF VERTICAL GLAZING POCKET.

3. AFTER DEFLECTOR IS IN PLACE SEAL BETWEEN DEFLECTOR AND FRAMING MEMBERS. THE SEALANT IS INTENDED TO DIRECT ANY WATER IN THE HORIZONTAL GLAZINGPOCKET TO THE VERTICAL GLAZING POCKET WHERE IT WILL DRAIN OFF THE EXTERIOR MOST EDGE OF THE DEFLECTOR DOWN THE VERTICAL TO THE SILL. DO NOT SEAL THEEXTERIOR MOST EDGE OF THE DEFLECTOR.

4. THE GASKETS ARE TO BE CUT LONGER THAN THE DLO. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE GASKET BE DLO PLUS ¼" FOR EACH FOOT OF DLO SIZE. SO FOR EXAMPLE A 4' DLOWOULD USE A GASKET 48" + (4) X ¼" OR 49" LONG.

5. BEFORE INSERTING GASKETS PREP CORNERS WITH A BEAD OF SEALANT IN THE GLAZING REGLETS FOR 1" BOTH VERTICALLY AND HORIZONTALLY FROM THE CORNER.6. INSTALL THE VERTICAL GASKETS . WHILE INSTALLING HORIZONTAL GASKETS INSERT ENDS OF GASKET INTO REGLETS A FEW INCHES FROM THE ENDS AND THEN APPLY A

SMALL BEAD OF SEALANT TO THE END OF THE GASKET.7. AS REMAINDER OF HORIZONTAL GASKET IS PRESSED INTO REGLET THE ENDS OF THE GASKET WILL SLIDE TIGHT TO THE VERTICAL GASKET. A GOOD APPLICATION OF

SEALANT WILL CREATE A SMALL SQUEEZE OUT OF SEALANT AT THE END WHICH CAN BE TOOLED FLUSH.

Theseadaptors are designed to be inserted into the reglet, and they must beinserted after installation of frame so sealing procedures can beaccomplished at joint.

2. Horizontal to vertical joints of adaptors should be sealed afterinstallation.

One "W" Side Block (12-908-6350 or 12-908-6351)should be installed into the deep pocket of the mullion ofeach light of glass to prevent shifting of the glass in theopening. (See FIG. 2)

NOTE: If deglazing of lite is required after "W" Block is installed, remove both interior and exterior weathering and use hook to pull "W" Block out of the pocket.

"W" Block (12-908-6350 or 12-908-6351) will expandand wedge between walls of glazing pocket and preventglass from shifting into deep pocket.
