THIS WEEK:
1) A big shout out to the 40 students who made the 2019 Football Cheer squads. Congratulations! 2) The Carlisle Girls Track and Field team started off their outdoor season with a 3rd place team finish at the
Simpson Invitational. Adelynn Ahartz won the long jump with nearly a foot longer than the runner-up. Ainsley
Erzen won the 200 meter dash and also finished as the runner-up in the 400 meter dash. Her time in both events are
the 2nd fastest in school history. Allyx Lee and Payton Kain had personal best nights in the throws. Lee narrowly
missed a 31 foot throw by less than an inch in the shot put, while Kain threw nearly 80 feet in the discus. Also in
the throws, Meredith Hoffman threw 94 feet in the discus to open her season. Sydney Berg and Tyra Tudor had
great nights in the high jump as they finished in a tie for 3rd. Megan Sievers had top 5 finishes in the 3000 meter
run, 1500 meter run, and anchoring the distance medley relay. Jocelyn Haack and Cam Mesecher had great
afternoons in the hurdles. They were top 5 in the 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles, and shuttle hurdle relay along with
Delaney Schnathorst and Tristine Viers.
3) Girls Track & Field will compete next at ADM on Tuesday, April 2nd
4) Congratulations to the Carlisle boys track & field program for their 5th place finish at the Simpson Coed
Classic on Tuesday. The squad finished behind 4A teams from Southeast Polk, Valley, Dowling, and Indianola.
Trenton Beck won the high jump and the 4x800 meter relay team of Jon Flaws, Kyle Miller, Tristen Kessler and
Kolby Fritz also won their event. Nolan Brunsen finished 2nd in the 110 meter high hurdles as did the 4x400 meter
relay team of: Nic Goodhue, Ethan Schlichte, Jace Vollstedt and Jacob Imhoff in addition to the shuttle hurdle relay
team of Trenton Beck, Nic Goodhue, Karson Dunn and Nolan Brunsen. Sam McPhee finished 3rd in the long jump
and Jacob Imhoff 4th. Kolby Fritz finished 5th in the 800 meter run as did the 800 meter sprint medley relay team:
(Hung Hoang, Nolan Brunsen, Jace Vollstedt and Ethan Schlichte) and the 1600 meter medley relay squad: Aiden
Chanthavong, Tegan Wyckoff, Justin Neely and Ceejay Whisler). 5) Good luck to the Carlisle boys track & field squad as they travel to Van Meter on Friday, March 29th for the
Winterset Husky Relays. Competitors will be dismissed at 2:35 with the bus leaving at 2:50. 6) Attention Student in regards to Grand March: Students will NOT be allowed into the school before 4:00pm. Due
to construction, students will enter at the OFFICE DOORS. You will be directed to the auditorium to wait for Grand
March to start at 5:00pm. NO DRINKS ARE ALLOWED. If you come in with a water/soda/drink bottle of any kind
IT WILL BE CONFISCATED AND THROWN AWAY. The Commons doors will open for the public at 4:00pm. 7) Cost of admission to Grand March will be to bring any sports drinks, energy drinks, soft beverages or water
for the students to enjoy at After Prom. 8) Attention students in regards to After Prom: The Commons doors open for After Prom at 11:00pm. NO BAGS
OF ANY KIND WILL BE ALLOWED. Students will not be allowed to change their clothes inside the school, so
plan ahead for changing out of your formal wear. Parents will be called for anyone registered who is not checked in
by 12:30am. Throughout the night, senior names will be drawn for prizes, but not everyone will get a prize. All
prizes are to be picked up in the choir room at the end of the night. Prizes not claimed at the end of After Prom will
be forfeit. All students should be off school grounds by 4:30am. 9) Cost of Admission to After Prom will be $30. Registration needs to be turned in by Thursday, April 4th. 10) You can now order Boys Golf clothing. Feel free to purchase if you would like. All clothing has "Carlisle

11) All Tuxedos rented through After Prom / Hy-Vee will be available for a required fitting, final payment and
pick up on Wednesday, April 3rd in the HS commons from 3-5:30pm. Full payment must be made in order to
pick up the tuxedo. Payments can be made with cash, check or credit card and can be made ahead of time by calling
or stopping into the Indianola Hy-Vee Floral Department (515-961-6338). Tuxedos can be returned at the After
Prom Party on April 6th, with all items to be placed on hangers and back in the tuxedo bag.
12) After Prom is only 2 weeks away and we are still in need of volunteers! There are many opportunities to choose
from! DECORATING is Friday, April 5 starting at 3:30pm. The more help we have, the faster it will go - need 3
more people. Sign up HERE.
GRAND MARCH is Saturday, April 6 from 3:45-6:30pm and still needs 5 volunteers: Sign up HERE.
AFTER PROM starts at 10:30pm on Saturday April 6 and runs until 3:30 am on Sunday. We still need 25
volunteers - if we can't fill these spots, we will have to shut down some activities. It's fun and FAST and lets you see

13) Prom is Saturday, April 6 from 8-11pm at Adventureland Palace Theater. Prom tickets will be sold from March
25 through April 3 for $20 each. You can purchase those from Mrs. Eginoire or from the library. Students must have
a ticket to get into prom.
14) Students – PLEASE sign up in the office to help out at the Annual Dollars for Scholars PEACH Affair on
Saturday, March 30th from 4-7pm. This is the main fundraiser for Dollars for Scholars. DFS has been able to
award scholarships to every senior that completes the application. This is a great community event that we
encourage students in grades 9-12 to volunteer. You can also earn silver cord hours for this service. Please see Mrs.
Heidemann with questions.
15) Prom is quickly approaching so make sure you order an After Prom T-shirt ASAP. Please see below for more
details.
16) DMACC is having a Discover Education Day on Tuesday, April 2nd from 8:30AM-1:00PM. They are also
having a Discover Auto and Diesel Day on Friday, April 5th from 9:00AM-2:15PM. To register please go to this

18) Do you love photography? The Carlisle Annual Amateur Photography Contest is underway. Please see below for

19) The After Prom Food Committee is asking for some help with food and drink donations. You can sign up using

20) There is a Part-Time paid intern position at the Carlisle Public Library during the summer open. You would
work approximately 10-15 hours per week. Pay will be $10-$11 an hour depending on experience. Evenings and
some Saturdays will be required. Applicant must be at least 16 years old. Please see flyer below for more

offering lifeguard certification classes starting in February-June. Spots fill up fast after spring break so don’t delay.

26) Mentor opportunity for 10th-12th grade girls: GirlPower, is a healthy relationship education program for girls
participating in Chrysalis After School groups. If interested, you will have the opportunity to be trained to teach and

2) Attention seniors: Here is a great opportunity to apply for a number of scholarships available through the Carlisle
Alumni Association. Come to the office and speak with a counselor with any questions. Application is due by
Friday, April 5! Don’t wait to apply.
3) There is a New Scholarship for Peoples Bank. The application must be submitted electronically directly to Peoples
Bank by April 12. Please let one of the counselors know if you have any questions. Please use the link:

Save yourself time, gas, and the hassles of driving to Des Moines Skeffington’s, by allowing our team to assist you with your Prom tuxedo while supporting a safe and fun after-prom party for CHS students! Here are the benefits beyond being economical and appointment free:
1.) Hy-Vee will offer fittings at Carlisle High School to make it even more convenient for your
student to choose and be fitted for a Tuxedo. (If a student prefers to work directly with the Indianola
Hy-Vee Floral department by visiting the store directly (call prior to visiting) or if fitting dates do not
work for your student, this is an option and will still benefit After-Prom.)
2.) Hy-Vee will send prom specialists to assist after-prom volunteers at each school fitting to make
sure everything fits correctly.
Non-refundable deposit of $37.45 is required at time of fitting if student wishes to reserve the tux.
Final payment are due by pick up on April 3rd. (All payments can be made with cash, check or
credit cards)
3.) Hy-Vee will deliver, and pick up the tuxedos at CHS -- saving the students
at least three trips to Skeffington's.
*Rental Pick-Up: Wednesday, April 3rd, (any corrections arriving back to the school/student by
Friday.)
* Rental Returns - Saturday, April 6th at CHS After-Prom event.
(Otherwise, it will be the students’ responsibility to return rentals to the Indianola Hy-Vee Floral
shop on the Monday following prom.)
4.) Hy-Vee will make all exchanges needed to the tuxedo rental to ensure your
“Prom” experience is as painless as possible.
Last Fitting/Pick-Up Date: Wednesday, April 3rd from 4-6pm
Tuxedos will be delivered for final fitting / pick up at the CHS. IF anything does NOT fit, Hy-Vee

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Summer Reading Program Intern Reports to: Library Director
Category: Non-exempt seasonal
JOB PURPOSE:
The Summer Reading Program Intern primarily assists the Children’s Librarian with coordinating and assisting with youth
programs, interacts with members of the public participating in the Summer Reading Program and aides other library staff
with specific summer events. The intern will interact with patrons to provide information, assist patrons in locating materials,
and use computer online catalog and other media products.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.)
1. Registers library users for the Summer Reading Program, and explains the program to them.
2. Passes out prizes for the Summer Reading Program as participants reach designated levels.
3. Assists library staff with programs and activities including set up, supervision of activity and clean-up.
4. Sorts and shelves library materials in designated section and order.
5. Assists patrons in identifying or locating material in the collection; including using the computerized catalog. May
include checking in and out of materials.
6. Ensures regular and punctual attendance to allow for effective teamwork with other employees, face-to-face
interaction with patrons and staff, and working with items or equipment located at the Carlisle Public Library.
7. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
SUCCESS FACTORS:
1. Actively greet and offer assistance to library users and other staff.
2. Exhibit a cheerful attitude.
3. Ask for clarification as needed.
4. Seek to resolve problems by bringing them to the attention of the supervisor in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be at least 16 years old
2. Required to move or lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds.
3. Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed
paperwork
4. Ability to stand for long periods of time assisting patrons
5. Be able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic and
handwritten) in English with other employees, library patrons, and the community.
6. Be comfortable working in close proximity to all ages.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Climate-controlled building with hazards typical of that environment, minimal outdoor work is required.
2. Standard work hours must be flexible and include evenings and weekends.

1. Entries should depict something about Carlisle or taken in the Carlisle area.
2. Entries should be original work of the artist.
3. Pictures should not show the name or the photographer on the photo.
4. Digital image entries may be color or black and white, horizontal or vertical format.
5. Entrants may submit three entries in any or all of the contest categories. Only three entries per
category will be allowed.
6. All fields on the entry form should be filled out fully and legibly. Any missing fields may constitute
an automatic disqualification from the contest.
7. A review panel will pick the top five entries in each category. The top five entries in each category
will be voted on through an online poll run through the city. The photo with the most online votes in
each category will be declared the winner.

Already certified? Lifeguard certifications are valid for 2 years. To maintain your certification you must take a
lifeguard review course no later than 30 days after your expiration date. After 30 days you will need to take the full
