Message from the Pastor

Stewardship 2016 – The Beat Goes On!  Last spring, our stewardship campaign was called GIVE from the Heart.  It was a wonderful success.  2015 has been and con nues to be a strong year of mission and ministry, thanks to you the good people of Bel Air United Methodist Church.   Now, here we are again.  Time to think about how you will give to God in response to all that God has done for you throughout your life.   As you know, the Chris an heart never stops bea ng.  Giving is a lifestyle.  Giving is year‐round.  God never stops giving to us.  We never stop giving to God – The Beat Goes On!  Please take some me this month to give this some prayerful considera on.   

2 Corinthians 9: 6‐8 (NRSV) 6 The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows boun fully will also reap boun fully. 7 Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work. 

 You’ll receive your 2016 pledge card by mail, and then you’ll be invited to return it in worship on Commitment Sunday, October 25th.  There will be addi onal pledge cards here at church.  If you won’t be in worship that Sunday, no problem; you’re most welcome to return it any Sunday in October or November that is most convenient for you.  Thank you for your faithfulness, and thank you for your commitment to our mission of making disciples for Jesus Christ.

The Sunday before the first Sunday of Advent (which is 5 weeks before Christmas) the paraments are changed from the dark green used for ordinary  me to white.  This is for that one Sunday only as the following Sunday marks the beginning of Advent.  Advent is the first season of the Chris an year (any day between 11/27 and 12/8).  It always contains 4 Sundays and ends with Christmas Eve.  It is the season for prepara on for Christ’s coming.  Purple (the color for royalty) or blue are the colors for this season.  Because purple is used for another liturgical season, blue (o en thought of as the color for Mary) is gaining popularity in many churches.  Our church uses blue.  For Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and through Epiphany (1/6) the paraments are changed to what the Altar Guild calls The White Christmas Rose.  These very special paraments were dedicated to the glory of God by Gertrude and Herbert Francisco in humble thanks for a life me of blessings.  Mrs. Francisco spun the flax into thread, designed and crocheted the rose mo fs and made the linen panels. They were presented to BAUMC on December 25, 1983.    The Advent wreath is put in place by the altar for the first Sunday of Advent.  There are 4 candles on the wreath, one for each Sunday and each having a special meaning: Love, Hope, Joy, and Peace.  On Christmas Eve, the center candle, the Christ Candle, is lit and, at the close of the service, the light of the Christ Candle is passed to all in the sanctuary as Silent Night is sung.  Star ng on Christmas Day and las ng through Epiphany, the Christ Candle stands alone on its own floor stand.

To My Bel Air United Methodist Church Family,  Words cannot express my gra tude for the love and care you extended during my husband’s  me of sickness and at his passing.  Howard and I have a deep love for this church.  But do to health issues, I am unable to a end services.  However, I remember you always in my prayers.  Thank you again, for every card, phone call, flower and visit.  But most of all, thank you for your prayers.  A friend loveth at all  mes Proverb 17:17   With Love Charlo e Kendall

Third Grade Bible Presentation October 4th All Services

All third graders and their families are invited this special Sunday to receive the gift of their own Adventure Bible from their BAUMC Church Family. This is an exciting time for All of us to share. We cherish God’s Word and encourage everyone to engage in the adventures of this life changing book.

Kids Overnite Campout Yes, you read that correctly. Elementary age kids are invited to bring their sleeping bags, jammies, flashlights, stuffed animals AND a parent to McComas Hall on October 23rd & 24th. We will begin our festivities at 7:30 p.m. There will be a scavenger hunt, campfire, s’mores, hotdogs, movies, bedtime stories, games, etc. AND pancakes in the morning. Everyone will go home with their parent at 9 a.m. Sign up will be outside of Room 101. (If you have pop up tents they are soooo welcome)

4 Yr Olds –High School      Children’s Musical Choir   Wednesday  6:00 in Room 103 

The King Who Knew the Joy of Giving This simple musical introduces kids to the medieval king whose generosity was immortalized in the carol bearing his name. But did you know that Good King Wenceslas was a Chris an king in a pagan land who advanced Chris anity in central Europe?   

In this Classic, Kathie Hill imagines the knights and ladies‐in‐wai ng celebra ng Christmas with godly King Wenceslas. But as he concentrates on giving gi s, his selfish daughter, Princes Wences thinks only of ge ng them! To set an example the king takes food to a peasant leaving the friar to prepare the na vity play. As Wences reluctantly par cipates, she is so reminded of the greatest and most generous King that when Wenceslas returns, he finds a 

princess who has been changed by the Prince of Peace and gospel of Christ.  Program Is December 6th at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary. All youth, grades 6‐12, are invited to be charter members of a BAUMC Youth Choir! We'll meet on Sunday

“YOUNG ADULT.” What does that even MEAN? If you’ve said good-bye to high school, are old enough to vote but haven’t yet completed your

fourth (ish) decade on this planet – you can help answer that question.

On October 10th, immediately following the Corn Maze Event, our “young adults” will head to The Hickory Lodge for a couple hours of fun, fellowship, and food! You can bring your “inner kid” to the Corn Maze (meet at church at 5), catch up with us at the church (we will be back at 10pm), or wait for us at the Lodge (10:30pm) ‐ just come casual and come hungry! We will hang out, have fun, and put our collec ve ideas together for the next steps for the “young adult” group at BAUMC! Any ques ons, please contact Chris Pelfrey at 443‐275‐3933 (call or text). We look forward to seeing you!!!

for the Toy Workshop. You may drop off your toys at the entrance to McComas Hall beginning November 1.

TOY WORKSHOP  

Each year toys are collected, sorted and then made to be like new—during our workshop.  Toys are distributed in Harford County through our adopt a child program, social workers, teachers, and other helping agencies, our Saturday Food Giveaway and Manna House 

2015 Harford CROPwalk 5K Run Saturday Oct. 10, 2015 – Fes val Park in Aberdeen, MD. One in Three kids that die today will die of hunger or malnutri on.  Join us as we take a big step to fight hunger!   

 All proceeds benefit hunger relief.  75% of proceeds are 

distributed worldwide through Church World Service.  25% of the proceeds are given locally to “The Sharing Table”   

Par cipants can either walk or run the 5K course through the city of Aberdeen.  

All par cipants are given a free race t‐shirt.  

Registra on starts at 8:30am;   Race starts at 9:00am.  

 

Please NO baby swings, encyclopedias, large pool or game tables or other oversized items. Please save your left over Halloween candy to be used in the stockings!
