Thursday, March 22, 2007 Second Section 4-H Youth Development John McQueary Rockcastle County Extension Office The Rockcastle Co. 4-H Council held its annual 4-H Variety Show on Tuesday, March 13th, at Mt. Vernon El- ementary School. The Council would like to express thanks to the judges as well as a big thank you to Ms. Laiken Coffey from Rockcastle Co. Middle School for being our Master of Cer- emonies. Listed below are the winners and the school they rep- resent. Operation UNITE is offer- ing two regional facilitator training sessions for Focus On The Family’s “How To Drug Proof Your Kids” parent pro- gram. The day-long trainings will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at the First Baptist Church on Fifth Street in London, and Friday, April 20, at Allen Bap- tist Church on U.S. 23 just north of KY 80 in Prestonsburg. There is no cost to attend the training for residents living within the UNITE service area; for those living outside the area the cost is $60 per person. "How To Drug Proof Your Kids" is an education, preven- tion and intervention parenting program developed as a result of the increasing drug problem among young people and the frustrated attempts by parents to steer their children away from the harmful use of drugs. The values-based program, rooted in awareness and pre- vention models, is designed to help parents grasp the reality of drug use and take preemptive action against it. Participants in this training class will be em- powered to teach parenting workshops within their com- munity. UNITE believes parents are one of the strongest forces against drugs, and are looking for individuals who are moti- vated to making a difference in the lives of children.
