Principal’s Report
Transition
Transition is well underway at present with the kinder children attending here at Hopetoun yester-day and the Year 6 students scheduled to come along for another day of transition activities next week. We are holding an information session for parents at 9am on Wednesday 23rd October to provide details on uniforms and enrolment procedures. It is important to note that uniform orders need to be lodged at Kaye’s Kollections by the end of this month to ensure delivery before school starts next year.
Transition days allow students to spend some time in a prep or Year 7 setting. It enables students, and parents, to get a feel for the school and to develop an understanding of the values and pro-cesses embedded across the school. The values here, respect, responsibility and team work un-derpin all of our schooling. Yes, some students will stray from these values at times. If this occurs, it becomes a learning point for the student and a teaching point for us. The intent always is to model and teach the values so that students can learn and develop acceptable social skills.
School Captains 2020
Our 2019 school captains have been exemplary in displaying the college values. We are now in the process of electing and appointing our College Captains for 2020. The candidates have entered their pitch in last week’s newsletter, they have been interviewed and they have made their cam-paign speech at assembly. Voting is underway and announcements will be made at the Year 12s final assembly on Thursday 24th October. The interview panel was made up of teachers and stu-dents. It is important to note the student representation on the selection panel. We had Neha (Year 9), Jonty (Year 10) and Shiarne (Year 12 and current school captain) on the selection panel. This is consistent with our emphasis on student voice and student leadership.
All of the information gathered from the speeches, elections, interviews and written applications is now being collated by Mrs Wright in preparation for the announcement next week. We wish all of the candidates the best.
Year 5 & 6 Camp
All reports from the campers were extremely positive. The activities in Melbourne were excellent, everyone got on well together and even the camp food was great. Thanks go to Cynthia Maiden and her team at St Josephs for organising the camp and to Mrs Bound and Jacob for accompanying the students.
Hopetoun Show
We had quite a few entries and displays in this year’s highly successful Hopetoun Show. Congratu-lations to all of the students who entered their artwork and projects and thanks to everyone for organising and displaying the exhibits.
Final Day
It only seems like yesterday that the school year started and now we are facing the final day for our Year 12 students. Last day for classes is next Wednesday, which will include a celebration morning tea. We will be saying a partial ‘farewell’ and best of luck at our assembly at around 10am on Thursday when the 12s will depart for study, work experience or work. We meet them again for graduation and Awards night later in the year.
