“ Show of Strength Theatre Company is thrilled to win this award as we’ve been campaigning against a funding cut for nearly a year. Our first appeal to the city council was rejected but we continued fighting and a second appeal is still being heard. Thanks to all the people who’ve been supporting us since last July, and who voted for us to win the award ”
Campaigners recognised for influencing decision makers
“ Campaign groups, like Show of Strength, demonstrate that local people really can make changes and influence decision makers. Volunteers and community groups across Bristol give a huge amount of time and effort to improving the city and to making sure that the views of local people are heard.”

economically challenging times
can be the prompt we all need to
reassess our finances, look at where
we can reduce costs and also
consider new ways of generating
income. Leaner times can help us
to find new perspectives on what

This can open up new possibilities,

Voscur Training and Learning
Training – why bother? In difficult times, with increasing cuts in budgets, we know that the first thing to go is staff training, so why bother training at all?
“ A Learning Organisation is one in which people at all levels, individuals and collectively, are continually increasing their capacity to produce results they really care about “ . Richard Karach
“ Personally I’m always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught.” Winston Churchill

Voscur’s open courses are developed with our members in mind, but we recognise the need for courses specially tailored to your organisation. Voscur can run in-house courses on many topics, so if you are thinking about learning, get in contact with Sophie Bayley on 0117 909 9949 or email: [email protected] and find out what we can do for you.
We haven’t finalised all our courses yet for the autumn, but they will be out at the end of July so keep an eye on our website, ebulletin and mailings from Voscur.

Voscur’s Children and young
People’s June Network meeting
focussed on the engagement of
young People. Jessica Boydell
from Connexions explained that
research had shown that young
people in Bristol were unaware
of what sexual health support
was available. In 2007, 4yP was
launched to bring together

Constitutions Corner
To counter the potential for abuse by, for
example, private schools, the Charities Act 2006
made it a requirement that all charities would have
to exist for a wider public benefit and to report on
how they had delivered on this as part of the
accountability of their continuing charitable status.
At its simplest the test is that there must be:• an“identifiablebenefit, orbenefits”(itmustbe
