Song: Threw it on The GroundGenre: Comedy Hip HopArtist: The Lonely Island

In the opening shot of the music video Threw it on The Ground we see the image of the singer sitting center stage, a clear amplification of his star image. The star imagery in the opening shot completely contrasts the remainder of the music video, as the video begins to tell a very, absurdly ridiculous story.

In the next scene, we see the protagonist of the story, the lead singer, being offered the latest energy drink. he gets mad for absolutely no reason, and throws it on the ground, creating the imagery from the lyrics. Regardless of how ridiculous the lyrics and video are, the artist is taking on the role of the Televised Bard, reflecting the story told in the lyrics through the music video.

By centering himself in the frame, the artist puts all of the audiences attention directly onto himself, and adding that ridiculous facial expression adds to the effect of the comedic hip hop genre/style the group go for. The music video itself can be seen as very unconventional in the sense that there are hardly any comedic hip hop groups out there, and the way The Lonely Island execute it is clearly very effective, telling their lyrics stories through absolutely ridiculous scenarios that would almost certainly never happen.

Approximately halfway through the music video, we return to the shot from the opening sequence, however this time, the frame consists of two images of the lead singer, singing from different angles, with an absolutely ridiculous over exaggeration of emotion on the left hand side, and a very conventional hip hop artist image on the right hand side. The contrasting imagery could possibly reflect the difference in The Lonely Island from the rest of the hip hop genre.

In this scene, the music video adds two pretty significant cameos, starring The Wolverine: Origins Ryan Reynolds, and The Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood. In starring the two of these Hollywood icons the group The Lonely Island actually open up a new potential audience, opening their music video up to the stars fan bases. The way they utilize the two stars on camera, again, presents a very strange and unlikely scenario, where the two actors taze the lead singer in the butthole repeatedly after he throws their table to the ground. In combining their ridiculous humor, their rap lyrics, and the comedic value of the actors, they give the audience an immediate gratification.
